Put DAF back and brought FYEO forward, simply because it's my son's favourite Bond film and he was ill..no other reason.
I'm always desperate to love FYEO more than I do. I think it has the single greatest missed opportunity of the entire series. Half way through the film the big reveal occurs when Bond realises his enemy isn't his enemy at all, but his supposed ally is in fact the bad guy. Yet the scene (on Columbo's boat) is tossed away without an ounce of dramatic realisation. A real shame. I guess the first time director John Glen simply hadn't settled in enough and seemed happier with the action scenes, of which there were many. Certainly by the time of TLD he was better at the more dramatic moments.
FYEO as always sits somewhere in the middle of the pile and I can't see it moving anytime soon.
Next up, definitely, Diamonds Are Forever.
Good luck with that Sharky - always fancied doing a tight back to back Bondathon - one day, most definitely one day.
Keep us informed
I suppose I officially started a few weeks ago when I saw CR again. Started TMWTGG last night, but didn't get to finish it.
After finishing the Connery/Lazenby/Connery era and watching the first of the Moore era my thoughts haven't changed really.
Out of these 8 my favourite 3 are: FRWL,OHMSS and GF.
Honourable mentions to: LALD (Maybe a controversial choice but it was the first one I ever saw and I have soft spot for it), DN and TB.
and my least favourite: DAF
Thanks for the message NicNac, I will keep you updated and good point about FYEO as well, I've never really noticed that before, I do like the film though one of my favourite of Roger's.
Anyway I am now off to bed because I will be up in 6 hours to start my next 8 tomorrow beginning with TMWTGG, I will next update on my stop for lunch tomorrow afternoon.
I find YOLT to be around the middle of the pack for me, I don't dislike it though there are just others I rate higher.
I am currently on day 2 of my BOND-A-THON, I have watched TMWTGG,TSWLM and MR. I am just having some lunch and then I will be watching FYEO.
I am hoping to get up to GE today but I am feeling a bit tired so I may not make it but hopefully I will be updating after I've watched LTK which I think will be between Midnight and 1 in the morning.
My favourite 3 are: TLD,TSWLM and FYEO (It was a really tough decision between this film and LTK but on this occasion FYEO got the vote but only by a little).
Honourable mentions to: LTK and OP
And my least favourite: AVTAK (But MR was pretty close, and TMWTGG weren't too far away either).
Off to bed now and then I will be up in the morning to start with GE on what will be the last day (hopefully).
Great! Keep us posted!
Wow! You are really working hard, aren't you :))
Yeah it has been harder than I thought it would be to watch 8 films a day (7 today), by the end your eyes really hurt and they go a little bloodshot. But I am enjoying it, something I've always wanted to do.
I am on day 3 and hopefully final day of my BONDATHON, I've watched GE and TND this morning, I'm just having some lunch and then off to watch TWINE (I thought I'd better give myself time for my lunch to go down before I watch DAD, only joking).
I will do my final post after SF tonight/early hours.
Also, did anyone else really love those "Bond vs Bond" threads that we used to have about a year ago? They were a lot of fun to fill out and sparked cool discussion as well. They seem to have disappeared.
Next week, Casino Royale '54 (which is actually the only Bond movie I have never seen, and I'm afraid I won't regret so, but still I'll be watching it).
Now that seems like a grand exaggeration to me...
But I agree that it's a very enjoyable romp. Not too long either.
Okay, maybe 'grand exaggeration' was an exaggeration... ;)
I have finished my BONDATHON, 23 films and 50 years covered in 3 days not bad going.
I have always wanted to try and do that, it was more difficult than I thought, it seemed like a good time to do it though as the SPECTRE teaser trailer is on the horizon and I had 4 days off , but most importantly my Girl friend is away until Sunday and she probably wouldn't of let me do it if she was around.
Anyway my thoughts on the films from GE through to SF.
My favourite 3 are: SF,CR and GE
My least favourite: DAD (no surprise there)
I haven't done a honourable mention for this block of films because for me TND,TWINE and QOS are all pretty average and near the bottom of my list.
So here is my new rankings list using the info I have gathered over the 3 days (can I just explain that because I split the films up into blocks some of my honourable mentions from day 1 may be higher than a couple of my favourites from day 2 and day 3 for example I really like LALD and TB but not as much as FRWL,OHMSS or GF so I had to put them as honourable mentions because I was doing a top 3 for each day, but I prefer them to say FYEO which was one of my favourites and in my top 3 out of the ones I watched on day 2, I hope that makes sense).
1) FRWL
2) OHMSS
3) GF
4) SF
5) CR
6) TLD
7) TSWLM
8) LALD
9) TB
10) GE
11) DN
12) FYEO
13) LTK
14) OP
15) YOLT
16) QOS
17) TWINE
18) TND
19) TMWTGG
20) MR
21) DAF
22) AVTAK
23) DAD
Thanks for all your messages and enjoy your own BONDATHONS too, I'm off to bed to rest my eyes. Goodnight
Your list looks good. Move LTK, FYEO and dr No up in your top 10, and you and I are very much on the same wavelength.
I think next time I do it I will space it out (wont be for a while), and 8-10 days sounds pretty good to me.
Whenever I've done my list recently I've noticed that 1-6 are always the same (since 2012) and 15-23 are always the same too, and then there doesn't appear to be much separating the ones from 7-14 and some of them can swap around, so on another day the ones you mentioned might of moved up a couple of places.
Its nice to know i'm on the same wavelength as other Bond fans @Birdleson and @jobo.
No offence taken, each to their own. Bond-a-thon's are like Tosca, not for everyone

Diamonds Are Forever. Blimey how good is Connery? Clearly enjoying the throw away lines which are very, very good, Connery just oozes charisma. Yes he looks heavier and older but its Connery! The sideways glance he gives M when his boss makes a sarcastic comment about Bond's never ending expertise is a hoot.
Some of the film is a bit sloppy and naff looking, Vegas looks even tackier than it really is, the climax is an anti-climax, but there's so much to love here, and the stunt work in the car chase is nicely handled.
A for effort if nothing else. It's a sort of guilty Bond pleasure for me and one of the films I have re-watched that has gone up in my estimation.
Next up - A View To A Kill.
I always ask people to show me any scene in YOLT or DAF where Connery looks bored, but so far no takers.
I think the problem is, the films got pacier and didn't altogether suit Connery's laid back, casual style as the earlier films did. As such it's the in-thing to say he looks bored.
