I had to check this one out for myself. At the very start of the main film, after the sweeping opening shot of the hotel and the divers into the swimming pool, Felix walks past an ice rink with some skaters on it. I believe it's the Fontainbleu Hotel (according to Google).
Technically this disallows the OHMSS/FYEO connection but it is a split-second moment in GF so I might make an exception, or word the connection as an 'ice rink scene'. Kudos to DoubleOhhSeven for the eagle-eyed spotting, though.
Why thankyou @Tokoloshe. I aim to please. Which film are we up to? DAF right? I've got one.
DAF-GE
The main villain is "killed" during the PTS only to make a shocking return later. I understand the audience doesn't know Trevellyn is Janus yet but technically he's still the main villain.
LIVE AND LET DIE:
TMWTGG - Clifton James as Sheriff J. W. Pepper.
AVTAK - Bond beds a black woman.
LTK - David Hedison as Leiter.
FYEO- both Bond and Bond girl are tied up over shark-infested water.
LTK- someone's head explodes due to air pressure.
GE- Bond fails to execute a plan with his watch gadget (canoe is tied up; Trevelyan confiscates remote mine detonator).
TWINE- musical instrument includes a gadget (radio communicator flute/bagpipe gun).
TWINE- a chair with built-in arm restraints (in Fillet of soul HQ/Maiden's Tower).
SF- Bond steps on an animal to help him escape.
SF- skulls appear in the title sequence.
TMWTGG- The actor playing Bond does not appear in the PTS. I don't count that Roger Moore mannequin.
Dr. No: We see Bond's apartment
DAF: Bond is cornered in a sordid-looking alley, but escapes.
TMWTGG: Roger Moore is seen smoking on camera (not only cigars, but smoking at all. In some Moore movies it's merely implied that Bond is a smoker. As a not smoker, kudos to that XD).
TWINE: Not sure about this one... Bond faces a villain with an implied supernatural skill (Samedi is a god, therefore he's inmortal; Renard can't feel pain).
For Your Eyes Only - Bond and leading girl tied together, entering water
Moonraker - Bond has close encounter with a snake
Thunderball - Bond in close proximity with a shark pool
From Russia With Love, The Man with the Golden Gun - "James Bond" himself, not seen in the pre titles sequence
Goldeneye - Bond uses his wristwatch to get out of a situation
The Spy Who Loved Me, From Russia With Love - Bond has a battle on a train with an enemy figure
The World Is Not Enough - Bond is prepared to kill someone he has slept with
Bond uses his watch to get out of a situation 3 times in MR. Once in the centrifuge, then to escape getting set on fire by the spaceship, and finally to shoot Drax.
Also in TWINE, when he goes to escape the bunker with Jones. Not sure if that's been mentioned yet or not.
OP - Maud Adams
TLD - Mannequin of a main character
TND - Junk ship
OP-former Dracula as the main villain
SF-female MI6 operative screws it up for Bond in the field
YOLT : Martial arts school. Bond wears a gi (the training kimono used in judo and karate).
Ice Skating and Ski Chases:
OHMSS, FYEO, TWINE, TSWLM.
Underwater battles
TB, FYEO, TSWLM,
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how TSWLM recycles a lot from previous films?( It keeps popping up on my lists here)
Gadget car
GF, TB,TSWLM,TND, DAD
I think Miranda Frost tops the other two in this department!
The same thing happened in TMWTGG. All of Guy Hamilton's films had similar endings. Even though Goldfinger wasn't a henchman he still returned to attack Bond in a vehicle after the movie was supposedly over.
Yes, that's the point I was making. This is for similarities too TMWTGG if you read back a few posts. And you're right about GF although he was the main villain there and not a henchman. I'm currently writing something on this for my blog on the literary sources of the henchman return endings in the Tom Mankiewicz and Guy Hamilton Bond films. There's a definite pattern there that's worth exploring and that's what I intend to do.
I understand that but the original poster stated that the points had to strictly be between 2 films and no more. In this case it's three.
Oh, I do apologise in that case. I did not realise that. I'm not terribly good at these forum games I'm afraid and I was only really dipping my toe into the water with this one.
TLD: Bond has some problems with children (tricks one who was actually smarter than him; he almost shoots one when enraged by Saunder's murder)
