Are you even aware how ridiculous how such comments sounds. I'm sure the likes of Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes and Christian Bale would have had so much more successful careers if they'd played Bond.
Fassbenders filmography already is more impressive than Craig's, he's shown it is possible to balance heavier material with with more commercial output something Craig is yet to do, Flashback of a Fool?
Craig is yet to have a bonifide hit outside of Bond, Cowboys is classsed as a flop, it's likely DC's biggest hit period will be Tintin and that is only a supporting role. I one of his biggest advocates but his choices of roles have been unfortunate and none of his theatrical choices have so far showed the talent he really is, I'm hoping Fincher gets the performance outside of Bond that will show people what a great talent he is and he just isn't good running and looking mean and punching people, CR and to some degree QOS showed elements of what a class act he is but nothing outside of that has shown him really on fire.
Fassbender is contrast has been pretty incredible on the big screen and is soon to be see as Carl Jung alongside Viggo Mortensens Freud in Cronenberg's Dangerous Method amongst many other roles coming up in fact read his IMBD page and try and tell me he needs Bond to get his career going. It makes me laugh that people can come out with such crap without even looking at the facts.
Fassbender is attached to Prometheus which no doubt will be one of the big films next summer as well as working with Steve Mcqueen again after their 1st collaboration the blistering Hunger on Shame due early next year. Michael Fassbender is already a star and no he does not need the role of 007 to define him, I just hope Daniel Craig can notch up such an impressive theatrical CV in his life time.
Assbender has a look and style that no doubt directors and producers like right now and will sign him up for future films but what if he falls out of vogue?
An actors shelf life is very short, and if someone gives you the golden ticket to play an icon in cinematic history you've got take it haven't you? His performance for 30mins in x-men made me think of a Connery Bond and that is gold dust sorry god dust, and that should be bottled and signed up by EON asap.
I can only think of Clint Eastwood and Sean Connery as the last proper Hollywood stars. I thought Clooney would be up there but he isn't there yet. Very few actors stay the commercial and critical course.
Craig is known by most for his Bond persona and joe public does not know his dramatic background having only probably been introduced to him through Layer Cake.
Don't think being Bond is a golden ticket, Connery is forever trying to shake the stigma of being 007 despite the riches it bought.
I'm sure without Bond Fassbender will thrive it's only over excited fan boys who saw him in X-men and most likely just discovered him think his next obvious step is 007.
I'll give you Eastwood a very talented actor and director but Connery most of his output has been embarassing for decades and he clearly gets the movie star tag for Bond and small amount of his filmography, Eastwood is in another class and has played a number of iconic characters, Sean has only managed one.
Connery is a star no matter what tripe he turned up in. That's what a star means. Yeah Sean has only managed one major role but what a one it is and the reason that we all spend hours a week on this fan boy site.
And give him a bit more credit...The Man who would be King, The Hill, Marnie, Highlander, The Name of the Rose, Indiana Jones, The Untouchables, The Hunt for Red October etc....he should have done The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings. The Man is a true star and legend.
In terms of looking for the next Bond, we always do it, don't you? You've never caught yourself thinking ummmm he'd make a good Bond.
And this thread is about Assbender being Bond, so it's logical that we discuss why we think Assbender would make a great Bond. I want Ass in Bond 24.
Like, not by Eon, but basically his own production of Bond, like NSNA.
Would be totally awesome. He apparently even asked Broccoli once if he could and didn't even get a response -_- But a Tarantino spy flick would be heaven. SSSPECIALLY with Fassbender.
*I'm not saying Fassbender wouldn't do it for EON, fyi
Any way as we're both not actors we don't know the motivation behind their reasoning. One of my mates just finished a successful TV series and has turned down movie roles because he likes the stage - go figure.
But I still think you're insane to turn Bond down. I think Assbender would jump at the chance.
It looks like an entertaining film, and I do love Soderbergh.
He is definitely young enough for 2 more films if they keep their act straight (producers) and get the films moving along closer together.
Craig is an excellent Bond and I do not want his time to be over with Bond 23. And this coming from a huge Bond fan who had major doubts about him before seeing him in Casino Royale.
And maybe it's just me, but he already looks older than his 34 years. He's younger than me!
I have seen Inglourious and a number of Michael Fassbender movies including 300 and there is no question that he is a special talent.
The man has proved a sensation with critics worldwide for his performances in the much anticipated A Dangerous Method and Shame.
I believe Fassbender is around 30 years old and once Daniel Craig (An excellent James Bond) steps down, he would be the outstanding choice to play the 7th 007.
Of course he's a special talent and as I've said many times before he doesn't need 007 to successful already has a more acclaim than Craig!
Fassbender on the other hand has just won the best actor at the Venice Film Festival and previous to that has won other acclaim for his roles, he chooses his work a lot more carefully and balances his commercial with his more art house choices.
Don't get me wrong I was and still am a big advocate of DC but I'm hoping to see something from his as incendiary as Geordie Peacock in Our Friends In The North. I hope Fincher can coax a performance out of him that will put all the naysayers to sleep and he'll get a role which really shows off his talents.
For the record Shame was simply stunning and Fassbender's performance is his finest yet.
