Well, as I said above the American accent doesn't help. It's Japanese so it doesn't have to make sense to Western eyes? That's all I can come up with...
I think that is exactly how many of us feel about this issue, @Villiers53!
It's only stupid to smoke unless you partake of 70 Morlands a day. These should be custom made mixing Balkan and Turkish tobaccos and have a higher nicotine content than normal smokes. They should have 3 gold bands around the filter and you should be able to store 50 of them in your wide gunmetal cigarette case. When the time comes for an inhalation of the bronchial tubes - approximately every 10 waking minutes - you should fire one up with your oxidised Ronson lighter.
If you smoke like this you will be super fit, capable of chasing many villains and will be a sexual athlete with an unlimited libido.
Do it any other way and you'll probably finish up with multiple cancers, emphysema and a chronic heart condition. You also won't be capable of walking 100 metres without an oxygen tank and lead in your pencil will be a distant memory.
Unfortunately Morlands of Grosvenor Street closed down in 1980 so we only have the unhealthy possibility available to us. My advice would be avoid it and enjoy your philandering instead!
@TakeASip, could you elaborate please? Why would you *love* to see Bond smoke e-Cigs?
I can't speak for @TakeASip but I started this thread and I think it would be interesting if Bond smoked e-cig's in Bond 24.
I say this because, like many on this thread, I believe that smoking real cigarettes is stupid and implausible as one of Bond's vices if he is required to be such a physically fit person.
On the other hand, I still believe that smoking is very cool. I know it is a miserable thing these days that people see as being gross and taboo, (especially here in America), but if you are a fan of the golden age of films of the 30's and 40's like I am, smoking is very cool. It is also a very important part of the character that Fleming created, as people have stated here. Personally, I feel that if I were an assassin who had endured so much pain and suffering, I would probably turn to drink and smoking as a way to ease the pain.
We saw this in Skyfall when Bond had seemed to take to drink while he was "enjoying death". Heavy drinking does not have the same stigma as smoking around the world so thats why we saw Bond drinking but not smoking, even though realistically I feel like he would have picked up smoking during his period. In the film it even said his blood tests showed "substance abuse" which to me means drugs, and I feel like Bond would smoke before he'd do harder drugs. But again, we never saw that in Skyfall. I wish we had because that would have set-up his ability to switch to e-cigs in Bond 24, because that way he could still get the nicotine rush without the debilitating side affects of smoking real cigarets. It also makes sense as a way for the film to get some huge product placement cash, which we all know the films love to shamelessly generate. That said, I think that endorsing e-cigs would be too controversial for the producers to back right now, but thats why I asked about the future.
Over the past half century smoking has been dying out, and dying fast, but who's to say that over the next 50 years or 20 years that smoking e-cigs won't become a booming trend? I'm just saying that if smoking becomes popular again through e-cigs, then I think the Bond producers will incorporate it back into the films.
Give this man a cigar! ;-) =D>
"Cigarette, Mr. Bond?"
"Eww, heavens, no, those are filthy, addictive things!"
Granted, Bond gave a line like that in the PTS of TND, but he still smoked later on in DAD.
"Can I borrow a match?"
"I use a charger which I need to plug into the USB port of my laptop for a sustained battery life."
;-)
Hilarious!
Bond: "Well, (Insert B24 girl's name in here), it looks like the game is up. Are you...are you smoking a cigarette?"
Girl: "Yes, Mr. Bond. If I'm going out, I want to go out, cigarette aflame. Yourself?"
Bond: "Oh, my battery died hours ago."
Besides, what type of e-cig would he even smoke? They dish out nicotine as well, and some of them you can't even regulate how much nicotine you're really getting, so wouldn't it be possible for them to be just as worse as cigarettes? If Bond will smoke again, he should be engaging in the real thing. I don't see the issue with it. You can't defend drinking, yet argue smoking, as they're both terrible for you, and like I said, if he's in top physical shape after all of those alcoholic drinks he's had over the years, then alcohol has no alteration on his health, and cigarettes shouldn't, either.
I agree. Well said and very true!
Sometimes I wish I had have been born in the 40's or even the early 1900's (so I could have lived in Paris in my 20's in the jazz age of the 1920's). Can't help but think that life would have been a lot more fun.
I don't smoke anymore but I do use e cigs and providing you don't order a fake online or/and one that just doesn't work that well (this has happened to me twice now and I'm sick of wasting my money) then they are a good replacement. As for Bond smoking them, no, not really a good idea me thinks. Would look a little pathetic and lame. Either the real thing which I would like (but will never happen unfortunately) or nothing at all.

@Creasy47 No, nicotine is just addictive. It's not actually bad for you. It's the other chemicals in cigarettes that are detrimental to your health which e cigs don't contain. Although I did read an article about a French study that claims e cigs do contain some carcinogens (a cancer causing substance) but overall e cigs are no where near as bad for you as real cigarettes.
I know this scene is set in the 1960's, but IMO this is the coolest, most badass smoking moment I have seen, in TV or in movies in recent memory.
