I remember hearing somewhere... don't know where, that Jesper Christensen is not interested in returning to the Bond franchise. If that's true or not, I don't know.
But yes, having Mr. White as the main villain of Bond 24 would be pretty nice, with the movie ending with the reveal of the head of Quantum.
He has apologized/corrected that.
Oh, really? Well, that's fantastic! Then that means that it's almost definite that Mr. White will return.
I'm not so sure about that. Judging by the critical success of the White-less, QUANTUM-less Skyfall, I could totally see EON abandoning them altogether for Bond 24. I'm still crossing my fingers for them to return though! I'll literally die if I don't find out what happens to White.
That... would be stupid. Building up an evil organisation for two movies only to completely drop it and never mention it again. Yeah, that would be stupid as all hell. I feel like my dream of seeing Helen Mirren as a Bond villain would only be realised as Head of Quantum. And to get back on topic, she needs a kickass henchman as well.
I absolutely agree with you! I'm not saying it's what they should do. But it would be convenient (It'll have been over half a decade since QoS by the time Bond 24 comes out) and the general audience probably won't miss them.
However, with all of the success of Skyfall, Bond 24 will most likely get an even higher turnout, which would make it a great opportunity to reintroduce Quantum and, dare I say, a certain arch nemesis that's been missing since the '70s (wink, wink) to an entire new generation of Bond fans!
According to the new Bond archives book, he is a "senior" member of QUANTUM.
Really? So why is he trekking through the jungle to set up meetings, carrying out assassinations or retrieving cases from canals?. Utter bollocks.
Cant see Ernst Stavro or even Mr Osato carrying out such menial tasks. At the very best hes the main henchman to the head of Quantum but hes nowhere near having any actual power.
I think he might've been backtracking there. Look at it this way, lets say he actually did say he hated the films, etc.
He realised he'd f*cked up and could've potentially lost lots of money since they probably wouldn't hire him back, so he went and said "no, it was all out of context!!!"
There's also a chance that it actually was out of context but I'm not 100% sure to be honest.
You can be senior and do ground work. I always considered Mr White to be a sort of field commander, a decision maker who also supervises what is done on the operation side.

And here is his backtrack posted by our very own MI6-HQ:

I think it is the fact that he gives direct orders to Le Chiffre in Casino Royale that causes so many to consider him one of the high-ranking members of Quantum. Also, MI6 went out of their way to get him into an interrogation in Quantum of Solace, whereas people like Dimitrios or Gettler probably wouldn't have been important enough to face an interrogation. Still though, since absolutely nothing has been stated, and he is such a shady, mysterious character as of now, I'd say let's just wait and see about Mr. White.
Thanks @Brady. Cubby was never one to hold a grudge. An apology was all that was needed for him, and I'm sure his kids share that outlook. If there is a spot for Mr. White, he will return.
Not really. White was the only contact they had so of course they are going to interrogate him. And when does he give direct orders to Le Chiffre? Apart from shooting him in the head, but being an executioner does not mean he is above Le Chiffre. If you recall Le Chiffre is really the one MI6 and the CIA wanted.
And in the Quantum opera scene its Greene who is giving out all the orders and White just sits there saying nothing. And by the end of QOS even Greene doesnt appear to be that high up an operator.
Maybe White is a sort of head of security who likes to keep his hand in with a bit of wet work from time to time? Would explain the Le Chiffre execution and what he is doing at the opera meeting even though he doesnt contribute.
But that doesnt explain his appearance at the start as a middleman for Le Chiffre and Obanno.
I never really got the feeling that Le Chiffre was actually a member of Quantum. I think Quantum employed him to help them make money to fund whatever it is they do. In CR Mr. White just sort of acts as a liaison between Quantum and Le Chiffre. His job is to observe Le Chiffre and make sure that every thing runs smoothly. He treks out into the middle of the jungle with him because those are his orders from Quantum.
