What was your reaction to DAD?

What was your first reaction to Die Another Day, whether seeing it in theaters for the first time or watching it on DVD or VHS for the first time, what were your initial thoughts heading into the movie and then after you saw it?

    Keep in mind that I was 11 at the time, but I thought it was the Best Bond ever...Back then. Now to me it's a middle of the road Bond movie.

    Too much CGI, too little serious Bondian stuff. I can enjoy it for what it is, now.

    Heading into the theater I was hopeful that it would be better than TWINE. When it was over I seriously thought that MGW and Babs should stop making Bond films. I'm glad that I was wrong about that though.

    First time I saw it I was just meh I think. Second I appreciated it a bit more, third (and currently most recent) time it just ended up in the bottom 3. I enjoy every Bond film to some extent, but DAD definitely had more issues than most, including excessive CGI and some cheesiness. I like TWINE a lot more on the other hand, which is possibly the most underrated Bond film.

    Any small problems I had with TWINE were instantly erased by DAD.

    Oh well...

    Here goes..

    I was disappointed by TWINE and TND (Goldeneye was too formulaic for me) so I went to each one with a new sense of purpose

    Titles at beginning shooting down the barrel. I can live with that. Shooting the rapids. I can live with that. Bit in North Korea with flamethrowers and hovercraft - the dialogue is off but I can live with that

    Then the part where he stops his heart and pretends to be dead.

    Oh deary deary me. The whole thing collapses.

    From then on it is a mess. The whole thing backfires

    At its heart is cgi so terrible it makes you want you want them to bring back the etchasketch. All the elements backfire direction, production, villain, girl, scheme, music I cant go on

    It was with baited breath that I waited for the next one. Gladly they went back to the eighties instead of taking him in the direction they were going too

    Gulp.

    I actually liked it when I first saw it eventhough I knew of the terrible cgi (One if my friends who had seen it before me had already told me about the fake shot when Bond's rocket goes over the cliff).

    I remember I brought the DVD in early 2003 and still enjoyed it. It was never one of my favourites but back then I found it reasonably entertaining.

    It's only as I've got older ive liked it much less.

    Did not like it and thought it was one of the worst Bond movies of all time.

    Surprisingly I find liking the movie more after seeing it X times later

    I got in the theater thinking it would be a great Bond, I had read positive reviews about it, but not detailed one so I didn't know what to expect. I had my doubts after seeing the trailers, it looked too fake and I was fearing it was going to be heavy in scifi elements. But I did not expect it was going to be that bad. My frustration grew watching it, when I left the theater I was disappointed, when I was home I was actually angry. I thought this was the Batman & Robin of Bond movies and it may actually destroy the franchise. It also made me reevaluate the whole Brosnan era.

    I liked it the first time even if I found the finale a bit OTT, but then again so was CR's finale.

    I first saw it on VHS in April or May of 2005. Of course, DAD had a terrible reputation, but I was still unprepared for how ghastly it truly was. From the moment that Berry slithered onto the scene until the last dreadful frame, I watched the film with glazed eyes and open mouth, scarcely comprehending the filmic disaster that was unfolding. Even the Khantessa, who is a minimal Bond fan, came into the viewing area at a trot, a quizzical and faintly disgusted expression on her face. I'll never forget it, no matter how hard I try.

    There still are, including VHS players to buy. Each to his/her own.

    DAD was the last Bond film to have a VHS release.

    DAD (in England at least) came out on VHS and DVD around April or May 2003. I remember I was excited about buying it *hangs head*
