There was a Mandrake tv film in 2010. That s all so far I believe.

This looks fantastic @DaltonCraig007, even though they appear to have consulted the SP team on how to bathe the film in the hues of piss.

The cast would be outstanding in a Bond film (Fassbender, Irons & Cotillard).

@bondjames I believe Brendan Gleeson is also in the film. So I agree, the film is a must see for me for the cast alone.

I love Vin, but this is getting ridiculous. The Fast films are no Fury Road, and that's about the only instance of a big time action picture sweeping the Oscars in this modern climate that I've seen. It also helps that Fury Road contained relevant social commentary that explored the nature of women and oppression (while also predicting the decline of a world dry of resources like water and oil), which added to its appeal beyond being a cinematic orgasm. The Fast films are fun and have some great fights and stunts, the very definition of popcorn entertainment, but it won't have the depth needed to get any recognition by the Oscars, there's just no chance.
  • I can think of any number of past genre films that could have competed at the Oscars but went completely ignored. Like that article mentions, apart from Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight (and I'll mention the surprising nomination for Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, too), the Oscars quite wrongly ignore genre films completely in the major categories. They simply assume that such movies are what the Best Sound Effects and Best Special Effects categories are for. So to think that the eighth Fast and Furious film is suddenly going to start bagging awards or even nominations in the major categories is a pretty stratospheric level of hubris from Vin there. I'd be more inclined to humor him if he was boasting the same for Pitch Black 4.

(There hasn't been a Pitch Black 4 yet, has there?)

That's why Fury Road was such an anomaly. It was somehow able to not only be nominated in an astounding number of categories, but cleaned shop on top of that, and was the biggest winner of the night in total awards earned. Who knows if we'll see something like it again.
  • Yes, MM:FR was a huge surprise. Personally I don't think it necessarily deserved its best film and best director nominations (part of the problem of their increasing the number of nominated films in recent years), but hopefully this marks a shift in the Academy's views toward genre films. I wouldn't bet on that—I think MM:FR was a one-off—but in an ideal world that would be the case. One thing that's for certain: Fast Eight won't be the next film to continue the trend.

Looks like an expection, rather than the rule, when it comes to video game-to-film adaptions.

At the premier of 'Jack Reacher 2', Tom Cruise was questioned on his upcoming films... meaning 'Mission Impossible 6'. He hinted at an 'insane' stunt, saying that there's a couple of things in this new M:I film that he's been training for a couple of years to be able to do, so that it'll be 'wild for audiences to see it on the screen'.

@DaltonCraig007, apparently a stunt was so crazy it was cut from MI5 as they couldn't do it at the time of filming safely. I bet that is the one Tom is teasing there.

It's my most highly anticipated film of the next two years, even if they don't have this mega stunt. I want Cruise/Hunt to go out with a bang with MI6, and so am wishing them all the best with whatever they come up with.

@bondjames, you think Tom is going out with the next one? I don't know. I think he'll get in at least one more after this, if not two.

It's hard to tell, but, as talented and capable as he is even at his increasing age, a time will come for him soon where he'll have to bow out of the franchise, and after that, who knows what will happen. I can't see the studio letting it die even if it's without him. Maybe Tom's Hunt will return as an M figure like Phelps in MI1 to be a sort of mentor type for a new team?

@bondjames and @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 I'm willing to bet Cruise and McQuarrie want to do a trilogy of M:I films together, meaning they'd reach M:I:7 to complete it. If they go on with 3 years gaps, Cruise would be 59 at the time, which is younger than Liam Neeson was in Taken 2. Sky's the limit for Tom Cruise.

Back when Ghost Protocol was in pre-production, or in development, Brad Bird wanted to bring in Peter Graves to correct the mistake of making Jim Phelps a villain in the first film. Sadly, Graves passed away before the film could begin production... But, I'm still hopeful they will alter the fact of Phelps being a villain in a future Mission: Impossible film and connect it with the events of the first.

@ClarkDevlin, was Graves going to play the character that Tom Wilkinson ended up taking the role of in GP? When Graves passed, maybe they rewrote that section of the film and put Wilkinson's character in there instead, or Graves was always going to have that role, but when he died it was given to Wilkinson.

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, most likely! Although, I don't think Bird intended to kill him off as opposed to whatever happened to Wilkinson... My idea of it would have been that whoever it was they confronted in the first film wasn't the real Jim Phelps... But, that's all I was told...

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 it was pure speculation on my part. While Tom certainly still has the moves, he is 54, and likely will be 56 when the next one is out. He has aged a bit in the last few years, and he could quickly hit that point where it starts becoming noticeable (it comes along quite quickly).

@DaltonCraig007, I don't really see Cruise acting in the same capacity in MI7 if he's back for that. More than likely he will transition, as @Brady notes, to a Phelps type figure. He's actually been doing that increasingly of late (first in GP and more so in RN - just hearing his voice on the mic directing Benji into the Opera in Vienna made me think that this is where he's headed).

@ClarkDevlin, that's an interesting idea. They could even bring back Jon Voight for one last hurrah. He's still going strong.
