'You made me bleed my own blood'.. so many great lines, I like Stiller when he is in outrageous mode Starsky and Hiutch, Zoolander and Tropic Thunder are other favorites of mine that I own.
Great stuff, its been years since I watched the classic Godzilla films, I was thinking of buying the Jeff Bridges King Kong its been a while since I saw that.
I have all the recent Hollywood Godzilla and Kong films, all great fun.
Will this be first R-rated Hunger Games movie ?.
Not including the three-part anime series [Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017), Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (2018) and "GODZILLA The Planet Eater (2018) ] you have 29 (!) TOHO films to select from:
- Showa era (1954-1975) 15
- Heisei era (1984-1994) 7
- Millennium era: (1999-2004) 6
- Reiwa era (2016+): 1 (thus far).
BTW: Currently watching Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)When I was young in the UK they played all the films regularly on I think it was BBC 2 which was almost 40 years ago I did tape many on VHS, it would be fun to revisit the classic films. A few of the era's you mentioned I won't have seen.

With Criterion having acquired the US rights to the Showa Era films several years ago, those films are widely available on multiple on-line and broadcast platforms (YouTube, STARZ, Tubi, COMET TV, Pluto TV, etc..). The other films, however, are another matter all-together.
Since 1985, only three TOHO Godzilla films have gotten a theatrical release in the US (THE RETURN OF GODZILLA (1984 as “Godzilla 1985”), GODZILLA 2000 and SHIN GODZILLA (2016) – and the last two were limited to one-week only. That almost ensures that their availability will be spotty. Worse, TOHO has a habit of spreading the US DVD license agreements for the films across multiple firms, which results in selected titles often go out of print for years at a time. Good luck trying to find GODZILLA vs. BIOLLANTE (1989) for a reasonable price! Your best bet appears to be Amazon Prime at the moment.
There is, however, good news on at-least two fronts. First, for the past two years, TOHO has had special screenings of some of the more recent films around its’ general Godzilla Day celebrations every November (in fact they’ve done a better job at this than EON IMO). So, if you’ve ever wanted to see GODZILLA: TOKYO SOS on the large screen, you had your chance last year.
Secondly, there is a rumor at the moment – is that Criterion will attempt to acquire the rights to the non-Showa era films at some point in the future. If that turns out to be the case, those films would probably become available on a wide range of platforms.
Until then, you could try https://twitter.com/DKUTV - which is one of those micro free streaming services. They general stream various monster flicks several nights each week.
Thank you for the information, in the UK we don't get Criterion as far as I am aware though there is VPN option. Some of the films you mentioned will likely be distributed by others I will look into it. I will likely start with the classic films I am more familiar with and take it from there.
Note, the region 2 disks from Japan DO NOT have English subtitles. In the years before many of the older titles became available in the US, one fan website actually had a special DVD player that you could install on your PC that would read subtitle text files that they had created. The downside (IIRC) was that you could only change the region code on your PC 4 or 5 times before it became locked in.

Mel would no doubt give Sam Peckinpah a run for his money if directing, I had no idea Mel was attached to a The Wild Bunch remake. I recently bought the original directors cut of The Wild Bunch a film ahead of its time.
He was also supposed to do a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, and another Japanese-set WW2 film (also with Mark Wahlberg), but these also seem to have stalled.
And speaking of Wahlberg, wasn't he supposed to do a movie version of 'The Six Million Dollar Man'?
'The Wild Bunch' is superb, and doesn't need a remake, but I was was intrigued to see what Mel would have done with it! If its as visceral as his 'Apocalypto' film, it would be worth a look!
Anyone know if Spielbergs remake of 'Bullitt' is happening?, another pointless redo!
I could easily see Mel in the William Holden role, I am a fan of Mel's directed films he does not pull his punches.
