@Creasy47 Ang Lee is one of the best directors in the business today. Wouldn't be surprised if he manages to get a performance out of Vin Diesel that could give him some nominations (even wins) as Best Supporting Actor in various awards ceremonies.

Thanks @DaltonCraig007. That does look very good. Not necessarily my favourite genre, but again great cast and Ang Lee usually delivers.

@Tuulia, thanks for letting me know about Macbeth. I wasn't even aware of that film. I think I'll check that out on blu ray if I can find a reasonably priced copy.

I'm itching to see footage from 'Last Days in the Desert,' especially because of how gorgeous it'll look thanks to Lubezki. 'Into the Forest' looks terrific, as well. I've seen way too many good trailers today already.

@Creasy47 I think the trailer was posted a few pages back.

You're the man, @DaltonCraig007! Had no idea a trailer was out already. Looks fantastic, as I had hoped, and I'm always happy to see Ciaran Hinds as part of the cast, too. Can't wait to see it.

I hope some footage/trailer for Martin Scorsese's 'Silence' and Mel Gibson's 'Hacksaw Ridge' will be available soon. These 2 films are almost certain to garner a huge amount of nominations during the Award season, so it would be nice to get an idea on the films.

'Hacksaw Ridge,' from what I've heard, is unbelievable. It could be the type of war movie that manages to sweep the awards ceremonies while simultaneously blowing everyone away. Gibson is a tremendous director, so I've had high hopes for it for quite some time. Scorsese hardly does any wrong in my eyes, either, so I'm also looking forward to 'Silence' (and his hopefully inevitable 'The Irishman.' Been a good five years or so that I've been waiting for that.)

@Creasy47 If I were to make a bet, I would go for Gibson winning best director, Liam Neeson winning best actor for 'Silence' and one of them winning Best Picture. Like you, I'm reading Hacksaw Ridge' is phenomenal, and apparently 'Silence' is of the same caliber.

It's going to be the come back year for Mel Gibson. His action film 'Blood Father' will have a midnight session in Cannes in a few days, and I'm already hearing it's going to be to Gibson what 'John Wick' was to Keanu Reeves.

Apparently, 'Hacksaw Ridge' has kept its hard-R rating, too, as it wouldn't have been the same movie at all if it was knocked down to PG-13 like discussed a couple of years back. I look forward to seeing both, and yes, 'Blood Father' looks very entertaining, too.

I saw a comment somewhere on the internet from a lucky person who went to a test-screening of 'Hacksaw Ridge', and he/she said (paraphrasing here) that the battle sequences in Gibson's film make the opening beach landing scene of 'Saving Private Ryan' look tame in comparison. Honestly, the last time I was gobsmacked by the intensity of a battle scene was 'Apocalypto'. I wonder who directed that movie.

Apocalypto was hideous. Made me squeamish.

I'd say the D-Day Normandy scene from 'Saving Private Ryan' is one of the most "epic" battle sequences I've ever seen, and probably one of the greatest film moments for me. If 'Hacksaw Ridge' is making it look tame in comparison, then I'm in.

    @Thunderfinger, you big baby!

Yes, couldn t stand those scenes where kids were killed. I gave away my copy.

Well made film it was, though.

After Dicaprio's sure-win last year thanks to 'The Revenant' (and I'm very happy he won), this year looks a lot tougher for the same category. Michael Keaton appears to be unhinged and insane in 'The Founder', Andrew Garfield in 'Hacksaw Ridge' and Liam Neeson in 'Silence' also give career-defining performances based on what I'm reading on various websites. But it is still very early in the year. I'm sure Jake Gyllenhaal is preparing some magic in the new Tom Ford film.

I remember it being great and well-made, but yes, very brutal and not something I could see myself re-watching over and over again.

As a big fan of the games (just finished the Jack The Ripper DLC for Syndicate), I really want Assassin's Creed to be good. The trailer was fantastic but I'm tempering my expectations because I really don't want to go into the film and be disappointed.

With the exception of the costume design though, they pretty much seem to have nailed it. Gorgeous (the cinematography looks great, which is good because one of the main aspects of the games is how stunning the locations are), interesting time period, parkour, hidden blades, etc.

What I find extremely interesting is how it's set in the same universe as the games. Since the games have been downplaying the overarching story (although Syndicate placed a little more emphasis on it, setting up a big plot point) I wonder if that side of things will be shifted more to the films?

Jeremy Irons for example is playing the head of Abstergo/the modern day Templars. That's a character who to my knowledge hasn't actually appeared in any of the games. So it's a pretty significant addition given that since he's the leader, he could be seen as (along with the precursors) the big bad of the whole series (since technically the whole series takes place in the present, and he's the leader of the villains in the present day).

I've never been much for the modern day stuff so I hope it's done well. The death row inmate backstory is an interesting take on it although you can kind of predict where it's going (the modern day assassins will bust him out, he'll join them for sequels, eventually earn redemption for whatever he did to end up in prison).

For those of you who are interested but haven't played the games, even if you don't have an interest in video games, I'd read into it a bit, maybe watch the best bits on youtube, etc, before the film comes out. It's a great series and the stories (well, the historical stories) are always interesting and brilliantly written. So far, in the games, they've covered the crusades, the renaissance, the American revolution, the golden age of piracy, the french revolution and victorian england, to varying degrees of success. The only bad game in the series was Unity in my opinion, which sacrificed much of what made the series great, dumbing down and streamlining the story in an attempt to pander to the masses and please those who hated AC III.

So yeah I'd describe myself as cautiously optimistic. I want it to be good and I have faith in Ubisoft but I'm trying not to get my hopes up given how awful video game films usually are.

As a fan of most of the series, that trailer certainly has me interested in the film. But whomever thought that Kanye West was a good idea should be locked in a used portable toilet, and knocked over.

Someone here once suggested Kanye West for a Bond theme. Can t remember who, but hope he was banned.

And if they haven't, I'd like to know who so I can press the button myself!

All these awesome-looking films are coming out this year??? I'm impressed with what looks like a good year for quality films. That Jesus film looks very interesting. The cinematography looks gorgeous.

I'm intrigued by McGregor playing both Jesus and The Devil in that movie, an interesting idea...

I have to say, love the username. A nice blending of 2 great Bond films.

Saw the Assassin's Creed trailer today. Man that trailer really captures the imagery of the video game. Granted I watched it with no sound (as I was at work), but it looked amazing!

^I don't know if I want to now. :p. They might show it before X-Men Apocalypse, maybe I'll hear it then.

I haven't watched this version, but to those who hated hearing Kanye in the trailer (so everyone), someone made an edit with much more fitting music, apparently:
