Hinx was a bit of a waste. Why he tries to kill bond and swann doesn’t make sense when Oberhauser wants them alive.

Not much at all in the SP script made much sense.

Here's hoping NTTD's script is a vast improvement...

He tried to kill Bond because that's what Blofeld initially wanted. However since Bond kept evading death and he got so close to base, Blofeld decided to show him his place, and THEN torture him to death.

    I liked Hinx too.
There are several reasons, why he will never be in the public consciousness like and Odd-job or Jaws, though. For one, his look simply wasn't as distinctive as either of those two. A small detail, but a big one.

Second, and probably more importantly those two both made their debut (one and done for Odd-job of course) in two of the most iconic films in the series. Even if your a fan of SP, you can't deny that it hasn't, nor ever will reach the tentpole status of GF or TSWLM. And that's why Hinx will never compare to those two.

But charisma is a big factor, and Odd Job wins that battle handily (which is odd in that Bautista exhibited strong charisma in the Marvel films). There is a reason that Odd Job (in character) appeared in ads and variety shows for years after the release of the film (as did Jaws and Nick Nack), in fact they re still referenced today. Icon? They were. I doubt that Hinx resonated in the public consciousness at all. I doubt that 50 years post-SP we will still see him referenced in commercials or on THE SIMPSONS, as we do with The Big Three Henchmen.

    Agreed.

Odd Job was unique. A typically quirky Fleming creation that is truely iconic.

Hinx is just nondescript. There's nothing unique or interesting about him. Certainly not to warrant a return in NTTD.

His fight with Bond was excellent. But that's about it.

It's like comparing Eric Kriegler with Red Grant

Still think that fight should have been kept for the final reel! Bond and Madeleine should have defeated Blofeld at his base, intercut with M, Q and the rest defeating Denbigh in London. Hinx survives the blowing up of the base and attacks Bond and Madeleine on their return journey! Shorter, neater and a throwback to the earlier movies!

I think later films that attempt to create an iconic henchman may have decent ideas, but do little with them.

Hinx, IMO probably was one of the coolest elements of SP, but still made little impact on me for the series as a whole. I also feel that way about Stamper and Zao.
Frankly, I think Locque and Gobinda were more menacing than some of the newer henchman.

I'm not sure who the intended iconic henchman for NTTD is supposed to be. This may end up a Bond film with minor villains like Truman-Lodge, Boris, Elvis, etc

    Probably Primo.

That would be my guess. Although there doesn't seem to be as much hype surrounding Primo as we had for Hinx. From the initial casting Hinx was intended to be an Oddjob or Jaws for the Craig era.

I feel they could do something now with Hinx to make him iconic, if they wanted to. Now he's suffered physically at the hands of Bond; if they brought him back and did something creative with him... he could be an iconic henchman.

They did underuse him terribly this Bautista, but then again this flaw can easily be laid at the feet of the writers of SP and Mendes who were more occupied with their vision than creating a decent thriller.

No concerns, not really. I'm very excited about this film. B-)
Seems to be nearly confirmed at almost, not quite, 3 hrs (apparently 2 hrs maybe 50 mins.) and that is fine with me. I think it will be a great, fun, adventurous, beautifully and creatively filmed Bond movie with a decent story. Cary and Linus do give me confidence in it.

My main concern is that No Time To Die has potentially bitten off more then it can chew in terms of wanting to complete the Craig era and bring all of his films to a satisfying conclusion. This may be purely marketing, but if they do in fact include elements starting all the way back from Casino Royale I feel that may be one too many narratives happening in the same film. I'm hoping there isn't any or much mention of Vesper as I feel that storyline has been rounded off with Quantum of Solace. Given that I'm not a fan of Spectre I'm hoping that 'Brofeld' and certain elements aren't made a focus. The narrative of Bond and Madeleine (and whatever secrets she may have) should be the driver of the film, IMO. Keep it simple. I personally hated how SP tried to incorporate all the other Craig films into it with images of Vesper, Le-Chiffre, White and Silva all being shown at the end. That being said I am super excited to NTTD.

Im very excited for it. The only concern I have is if a 3D-movie will fit with James Bond

I was thinking the same but in The Netherlands you can only buy tickets for the 3D- screenings. And I asked the cinema themself and they say that it is released in 3-D?

WTF, I do hope the Belgian cinema has more choice because I am not going to see it in 3D, what a moronic choice with a 007 movie.

Avatar will be back so 3D cinema is not dead but the likes of Mission Impossible or James Bond are not interesting as 3D, I even did watch the last SW installment in 2D because 3D makes my eyes hurt with a long movie.

Yeah i wasn't sure if films were still being released in 3D. I haven't heard much about it and rarely attend the cinema.

The last film i saw in 3D was Mad Max Fury Road, and it looked awful. The film looks amazing on Bluray though.

One of my big concerns in the back of my mind going into this film is that Bond might die...
I hope I'm wrong here but I keep getting this feeling that's the route the producers are going to go down

I'd sooner see them go for the YOLT novel style ambiguous ending but even with that it would feel unfulfilling to leave Daniel's run as Bond so open ended

If he straight out dies, I'm not seeing it. It's not something I'd care to experience. I've already got it covered so that I will be warned aforehand.

Yeah I'd be reluctant to see it too mate. I'd only see it because Daniel is my favourite Bond and after the 5 year wait frankly, I don't have the restraint. I hope he doesn't die but if Bond was too I definitely wouldn't buy the DVD

    He may ‘die’.

@Birdleson Could you please PM me if you find out they actually kill him? I don’t think they’re actually going to outright do it (the YOLT novel approach seems possible), but I really would like to know so I’m warned / prepared.

    Okay.

I appreciate it. I don’t want other serious spoilers like other character deaths / resolutions but I don’t want the experience of watching Bond die (which should never happen) without at least knowing. Too upsetting.

Lol... we all love James Bond stories but he's a fictional man after all...
And if it serves the story, let it happen.

Depending on the execution, I could go with Bond dying. Of course there will be upset fans. Many Star Trek fans railed against the filmmakers for killing Spock at the end because “you just don’t kill them!!”. 40 years later it’s now considered THE best of the films.

Not to say NTTD will make the same achievement. It could fall on its face for all we know. SF was NOT the kind of Bond film I wanted in 2012, but it’s been in my top 3 ever since the day of its release. I don’t want to see Bond die, but if it works for the story and is excellently executes, then I can accept it.

All true. And for the record I really don't think they'll kill Bond, and would be very shocked if they did.

But if NTTD is Bond's Wrath of Khan because of it, then so be it (I don't know anything about Star Trek, so forgive me :P).

I don't think they will either. To each his own. Some would be fine with it, depending on execution. I just don't want to see it.

As far as WRATH OF KHAN, a couple of differences. It's a STAR TREK franchise, not a Spock franchise. Secondly, the film made it very clear that Spock was going to be resurrected, even how. Third, I could live with that and be fine, personally, but Bond is different for me; deeper.

Agreed on all counts. One of the biggest points about Bond in general is that he’s not supposed to die! He cheats death and always lives to die another day. It would feel like a betrayal. Fleming brought him back after considering offing him in the FRWL novel; that to me is definitive reason why it shouldn’t happen.

Which is why I suggested he may ‘die’. If, and it’s a very big if, they ‘kill’ him off, I’ve absolutely no doubt it’ll be ambiguous. It won’t be definitive.

Yes. I have a feeling / hope we’ll get a very direct YOLT novel adaptation.
