Trolls 2 after two weeks at Dutch boxoffice did let we say 100.000 more then Scooby. $952,734 Scooby now did almoost 2,4 million after 6 weaks. 1/3 from what Bad Boys 3 did in 3-3,5 weaks before cinema's be closed on 12 March (till 01 July).

The Secret Garden did a disapointed $152,390, but that movie is not released by his original studio. The Rusel Crow movie ''Unhinged'' by same studio doing $834,891after three weeks.

Of course i think there is lack of promotion focus.

To be fair, as the article states, they don’t have any new blockbusters. Barely anyone would risk it for a rerun.

Unhinged isn’t a big film, that wouldn’t have done great anyway. Tenet will be the real test.

Pre-ticket sales numbers in Italy for Tenet are depressing.

Of course tickets aren't selling. Going to the movies isn't worth dying for.

As they said at the movie theater I work at, baby steps. Fingers crossed for Bond and more, but I’m just happy to be working there again.

TENET's first two reviews I read are not exactly glowing about the movie. I am sure there are more reviews around and if they are similar TENET might just not be the movie to save the cinema.

Even pre-COVID it never really looked like a potential megahit that would have drawn in audiences beyond the Nolan cult.

As an aside, do be careful. I read one non-spoiler review but I've seen some others complain that a few of the bigger ones have huge spoilers in them. But yes, given recent reports and the overall state of things, I don't see Tenet doing too well in theaters for the most part. Fingers crossed they opt to release it on streaming sooner rather than later if that is the case.

I know, but Tenet looks less “commercial” than Inception or Interstellar. Plus, JDW is no DiCaprio or “2014” McConaughey. Pre-Covid it would’ve made 700/800 $ millions? Sure. But a movie of this kind, “hard to follow, difficult to love”, as most reviews described, doesn’t sound like the type of film that would have drawn in eager audiences after all those months without movies. It’s not that kind of blockbuster.

I havnt read any reviews but im still stoked to see it and im one of those crazy people who makes up his own mind whether i like a film or not. Also,Nolan was the real draw of films like Inception and Interstellar.Having Dicaprio and Mconaughy didnt hurt but Dunkirk didnt have any big stars and that made big box office.

For what its worth, showings for Tenet for its first two days are sold out where i live.

It's selfish, but I want Tenet to perform well just to allow NTTD to come out this year. I have some interest in Tenet as well, but of course I'd much prefer getting Bond if it came to a choice. Of course, the uncertainty of the virus may still knock Bond out of place even if Tenet does decently. Nothing is for sure.

TENET has to be a worldwide hit. Otherwise there will be no Bond for at least another year.

Relative to films of similar budgets, Nolan films aren't crowd pleasers.

Would they not rather just release it on VOD than keep delaying and delaying it though? As you said, delaying it would mean “at least” another year. It could be longer, we don’t know where we’ll be or what the state of the industry will be next year. And surely they’ll need some sort of return on investment soon, after all the money they’ve spent.

Google tells me the budget is 200 million. That’s without marketing and distribution costs. Which will be going up even further, seeing as they’ll have to restart the whole marketing campaign again when the release date does come round.

That’s a lot of money to spend and then just sit on for two years, in the potentially vain hope that they’ll be able to make a bigger profit. I’d imagine all the product placement brands the series relies on wouldn’t be too happy with the idea of them sitting on it for two years either.

Basically, I think since it’s such a big blockbuster, they won’t sit on it for long. It’ll have to come out this year or next year. And since delaying it again could turn out to be a useless gamble, that leads to them just having to give up and release to VOD in a years time anyway, I’m starting to wonder if they shouldn’t just do that come November and hope for the best.

Or if they’re worried about piracy eating into VOD profits, just sell it to a streaming service. It’s a Bond film and these streaming giants love chucking money around lately. I’m sure Netflix, Amazon or Apple would happily recoup the budget and then some.

    Nope.
I never want to see a Bond movie going online without a several months long exclusive theatre run before.

If anything, Nolan's strongest asset is drawing in older audiences... which may not play well for TENET.

I would say that it's the opposite.
Most of the Nolan nerds are younger than 50.

But Bond draws in all generations.

I’m not on about whether we want it (personally I’d usually agree, but at this point I just want to see the film, whether that’s at home or in the cinema), I’m trying to predict their mindset.

I think a November cinema release is unlikely at this point. Tenet’s not looking like it’ll do amazing, and that’s with the advantage of coming out now. Post first wave pre second one. Bond won’t have that luxury. Come November people will be staying inside and getting ill more. We’ll probably see some sort of uptick in cases. And like you said, if they delay it, that’s at least another year. And I think another year is probably the max they’ll delay it by too. No way will they want to just sit on it for two years or longer when they’ve just spent 250 million (200 mill budget plus two marketing campaigns) on it. They need some sort of return on investment.

So, come November, they may have the choice of releasing it online, or delaying it for one more year and hoping for the best, before releasing it online if that fails anyway. If I were them I wouldn’t take the risk, I’d just want to see some money back already.

Hate to say it but NTTD isn't going to be releasing this year. Best we can hope for is next year. I don't believe they will go for VOD either, they can't afford to have such a big loss, i mean what will be the point of releasing online? They won't get much return anyway. Bond is a Cinematic experience, firstly, it's Daniel's last film and first proper made finale of the series and secondly, a bond film which is releasing after 5 long years. Let's wait and see how it plays out.

I’m with @thelivingroyale on this one.

We are thinking with the mindset of fans. But film companies are businesses, they don’t think like fans, they think like businesses.

If their accountants’ computers say (for sake of argument) that releasing the film via VOD would result in more income (or a smaller loss) than releasing it in theatres, then they’ll release on VOD, because that makes it more likely they’ll stay in business for longer

But their accountants' computers will clearly say, that releasing it as VOD will result in a biggest loss, than waiting for a later cinematic release. For sure .

Masks are mandatory in all indoor businesses - including cinemas. However, you can take it off during the film itself (but you have to put it back on whenever you are in the main lobby). I tend to keep it on during the film if the runtime is less than 2 hours (or if there are other people sitting near me).

Agreed, I haven't seen much buzz about Tenet in Italy, regardless of Covid. Previous Nolan movies generated much more Internet buzz in our country. Even his war movie starring Harry Styles (I forgot what it was called) seemed like a very big thing, everyone was talking about it and was looking forward to its release.
