Bad advice from a so called friend!!
Always been one of my favourite films in the series, and there is no danger of that having changed. My only complaint is the Bond theme playing while Bond is checking his room for bugs. Other than that, this is where the Connery era peaked.
That’s my 2nd Bond film this year, I feel like watching Octopussy sometime soon.

One nit pick for me is the boat sequence at the end. It’s a bit ponderous.
Dunno about that, they had commited to a new Bond in Lazenby.His daparture forced their hand in getting another new Bond,its only then that they decided that they had to get Connery back to '' save '' the series.
The last one I watched was Thunderball having not watched it for about 3 years or so. It's never been a favourite of mine and remembered it boring me a little. It is probably the least watched over the last 32 years of fandom.
However, this time I really enjoyed it. I think the space has given me a new appreciation for it. I thought peak Connery was Goldfinger but he's brilliant in TB. There are so many elements I really liked.

Like many of you, I decided to slip in a Connery Bond movie last night, in honour of the great man. Goldfinger isn’t necessarily my favourite. Indeed From Russia With Love, Dr. No, and when the mood takes me, Thunderball, all rank higher.
Yet Goldfinger has style and charm. Wit and grace. Perfectly embodied by Sir Sean Connery.
My local cinema is screening five 007 films this month, I'm guessing it was to lead up to NTTD. They are FRWL, OHMSS, TSWLM, TLD and GE. I was already planning to see all of these, but it felt fitting today watching FRWL. Even though Connery was not my first Bond and I didn't watch his Bond movies until much later, I had appreciation to what he created and brought to this role. FRWL is my favorite of his Bond run because of the espionage, the allies and the villains. Connery seemed comfortable in the role and it was more humbling outing compare to what was to come. Going into the theater, I was nervous that the movie may be boring and long in parts (which is how I felt in my initial views, but still liked the movie), but I found myself really enjoying and being invested. Seeing it on the big screen was nice as well and it looked good. If I had any complaints, is that the scenes after the train seem unnecessary - cut either of the helicopter or boat scenes and have them end up in Venice with the final confrontation with Klebb instead. Overall a great movie and even with Connery's passing, I didn't feel any sense of sadness. I liked that he gave us a character and films that we can enjoy for many years to come, and I'm glad I was able to see it on the silver screen like many did many years ago.
Simply the best. Connery is so cool in this.
Look up 'Iconic' in the dictionary and it should have the Goldfinger poster next to the description 😁
A film I have seen an unhealthy amount of times that still surprises me.
First Connery I have watched since he passed away. What a wonderful actor and the original and best 007.
I do love this film! Craig is brilliant, and really is a seriously blunt instrument in this.
Yes, some of the editing is appalling. I rewatched the lift fight frame by frame and its still not clear what goes on.
Lots of flaws, yes, but I love the fast paced low key story. Many nice moments and I really like the locations and the way they're used. David Arnold provides a fabulous score that is the icing on this (for me) top ten Bond film. 👍
Yes, a fabulous Bond movie. I presume you mean the scaffolding fight, mate? I did have issues with that on first viewing, but not now. Think its a terrific and well staged set piece, love the suspense at the end.
However, i think the cutting in the scenes in the sewers before it are way too fast and impossible to make out who is chasing who!
Regardless, a terrific and beautifully shot movie!
I don't even mind the editing anymore. It can go a bit overboard, sure, but it's befitting a film that moves at such a rapid pace and never, ever slows down or takes time to breathe.
Going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this one mate.QOS ( For me ) is the all time worst Bond film.Weak storytelling,horrible editing,AWFUL theme song,and much more than i can be bothered to list here is what is wrong with this film.
Different strokes for different folks i guess.
Oh absolutely, i abhor The Brossa Era but a lot of fans would have his films in their top ten. To each Bond fan his own..etc
Regarding QOS, its actually the smaller scenes that i really love not those rapid edited action ( which i still rank as some of the best action in the series!)
All the scenes with Mathis, the scene at Mitchells apartment with Bond and M, Bond and Camilles talk in the sinkhole, and the final sequence confronting Yusef, all top notch scenes.
The cinematography and the music is a big bonus!
No the scaffold fight is fine. Its the bit in the hotel elevator when Bond takes out 3 bodyguards.
Die Hard With a Vengeance did a similar scene first and much better.

I dont mind that scene. Do like the way Bond sweeps the guys foot in before the door closes!
And i love the way he skips along the balcony to avoid the M bodyguards.
All those bits you mentioned are fine and I love Arnold's music as Bond emerges from the elevator carnage. Just wish the taking out of the guards was edited better.
Ok, i give you that one! And he does take them out a little too easily!
And this is where better editing would have helped immensely; the parachuting into the sink hole is another; both are such easy fixes.

I haven't watched it for many years. I was surprised how much I liked the first two thirds.
Fatima Blush is by far the highlight for me! She is one of my favourite henchmen of the series. Even better than Xenia and Fiona. And I think they are all great. We need another strong female henchwoman!
Connery has some awesome lines and his delivery is as great as in the 60s.
It stays somewhere at the bottom for me because of the absolutely terrible, odd and tensionfree score, the bad effects and very boring last 30 minutes. Furthermore, the first action scene is also a bit disappointing (imo). And compare the two: Golf with Goldfinger or Domination with Largo?
I will say this if you had asked me in 2009 Craig would easily be my favorite but by 2012 and definitely now his tenure is such a mixed bag in my opinion that I don’t know where I would rank him to be honest...
Though also to be fair it’s been 5 years since I watched Spectre and 4 since I watched Skyfall so maybe time will be kinder to those films
I missed out on watching both OHMSS and TSWLM being screened at my local theater, but definitely wanted to make the effort to watch the last two Bond movies they are showing this month. I was hoping to see a different Bond movie this past weekend *sigh*, but this one would do. Along side Connery and Craig, Timothy Dalton is one of my favorite Bonds. It's not because we both share the same birthday, but I really like his portrayal. His Bond is intense, reserved, and caring. TLD is my favorite of his two films. There's so many things I love about it. The highlights for me are the score - the action scenes especially with the Bond flavor and use of the theme song. Love the regulars although do prefer Lois Maxwell over Caroline Bliss, but some of her lines/mannerisms made me chuckle. I did want to tell her to stop becoming a puddle in front of Bond, and to pull yourself together! There's were only three other people in my theater, but I was the only one chuckling/laughing. I know some say that Dalton isn't as good at the one liners as his predecessors, but I think his dry delivery that just sells it for me. The "why didn't you play the violin", "as long as the party is still on", "you should have brought lilies" always hits with me. Don't get me started on the "salt corrosion" one, living in the northeast US, that line is felt and I always laugh out loud before he even says it. The action was well done - when Bond and Necros are hanging on that cargo net, I was on the edge of my seat. Really enjoyed Kara, her character is sincere, and she wasn't annoying or unable to take care of herself. The weakest link are probably the villains, but I really liked Necros - that 80s type of foreign bad guy that's kind of cool. One thing when watching it on the big screen is that I caught some details or dialogue that I hadn't noticed before. Maybe because it's higher resolution or better sound that I was able to focus on such things. Overall a really good movie and I had a good time, it almost made me wish that Dalton had done more films.
Next weekend's film (and the last of these screenings) is GoldenEye. I can't wait for this one as this was the reason I became a Bond fan.
