I agree I don't think the over gelled look works with Cavil, his hair was at its worse in the Whedon reshoots, admittedly his hair is shorter due to the look he had in Fallout.
Cavil reminds me a bit of Superboy Prime in the teaser trailer...
I don't know why the CGI in Snyder's DC movies always looks so aggressively bad. Especially given that his previous works like 300 and Watchmen didn't really have that problem.

They did the same with Logan and Fury Road and those versions rather rocked.
I think it does too. Which is why its lower quality (at least to my eyes) in the DC films baffles me.
The CGI on people and objects tends to look alright, but so many of the green screen backgrounds in BVS and JL (both the Whedon cut and what we've seen of this one) make the characters look like they're floating in a videogame.
Maybe I'm crazy but this just doesn't look very good to me.
I just don't think watching a giant lizard man smash up a load of CG Amazon warriors on horseback somehow becomes more serious and grown-up because it's in B&W.
It doesn't. Just like it didn't for Logan or Fury Road - and neither of those are particularly serious on paper. A different colour scheme just offers a different mood and stimulates a different reaction than the colour one does. I really enjoyed Fury Road on the big screen in B&W, mostly for the same reasons (as a good film is a good film, ultimately) but not entirely.
Calling it 'Noir' did seem to suggest it was giving itself more cache.
Plus isn't there a plot point about Superman wearing a black costume in this? Will you be able to tell? :D
The trouble with all these black and white edits is that the movies were all originally shot (and meant to be seen in) colour.
No matter how good their black and white grading is, it's still ultimately just a filter over costumes, makeup, and lighting choices that were meant for colour.
Yup. Contrast that with how the black and white opening of CASINO ROYALE was handled. That was all conceived to be seen in B&W and was actually shot using B&W film stock. There's an authenticity to CR's that's lacking in edits of color films where someone just turns down the color bar and calls it a day.

One film that absolutely rocks in B/W is Stephen King’s “The Mist” ; it really enhances the creepy atmosphere.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but that CGI looks like a still from a video game, not a live-action movie.
I will say it's very nicely designed, though. I wish Snyder had leaned more into the fantastical elements in his earlier DC films as it's where his design sensibility really shines.
