The film's user rating at IMDb is dropping like a rock... due to a flood of 1-star ratings by so-called "anti-woke" trolls who haven't even seen the movie.

CPC (Conservative Political Correctness) in action.

Any evidence to suggest the IMDB rating is dropping due to 1-star reviews? That they are being posted by people who’ve not seen the film? That they are due to people objecting to ‘woke’ issues? That the postings are by people who vote Conservative?

Or are you just trying to create a culture war?

NTTD is pulling off amazing numbers. Now it’s all about the legs. Fingers crossed.

Well the two most recent 1 star reviews do indeed mention woke and 'far left'. I couldn't see anything woke about NTTD nor would have a problem if it were. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but often the review doesn't match what occurred on screen so you do have to question if they have genuinely seen the film.

It's just a general IMDB malaise though. Regardless of what film I see at the cinema I'll look at IMDB afterwards and alway sees a flurry of 1 star reviews. A quick scan of their other reviews tends to show they only ever leave negative reviews.

This is why I much prefer Letterboxd, the reviews on there - for the most part - tend to be from fans of the genre of the film they're reviewing and better contextualised.

I guess the box office results months from now will be the biggest indicator of whether or not people liked this film enough to see it at least once, and many seeing it at least twice (including me). Polls for the general public will always be a mixed batch as people go to war over a movie. As this is the most divisive Bond film in history, there may well be troll farms being set up as we chat here (on both sides). ;) Who knows? I wouldn't put a lot of stock in things like that.

The fact that it's done all this business without China or North America is incredibly promising to me. I know several Bond fans and even general movie people where the film is open who have already gone twice, I'm going twice (not counting the premiere as I don't think my pass counted towards box office, I think my boss who amazingly got his hands on one simply asked for it for press reasons) and plan to go at least one more time while it's in cinemas. I think there is going to be a lot of success from people going multiple times to really soak in and contextualize how they feel about it.

If it miraculously makes a billion (it won’t) I suppose we could chalk up its success with audiences too ignorant of Bond to not understand why the choices made by the filmmakers are IMMORAL. So sure it made money, but money made by people who don’t get Bond.

    :)

Well, I had read a brief article that listed the opening dates for SF and Spectre, but now I cannot find it. I am pretty sure Skyall opened on a Friday and Spectre opened on a Monday. With NTTD opening on a Thursday. And I assume this means in UK.

So how much weight should we give to RottenTomatoes site? Is there also another site that anybody would recommend we follow? I will look at Letterboxd. That's new for me. Any others? I'd like to read a consensus or at least a lot of U.S. critics - is there one site for that? It opens there Thursday, I think.

People in the states seem to pay attention to the critics and audience of RT generally. It hurt SP, and it really damaged the box office of Star Wars 7-9. The top critics of RT are giving NTTD 74%. Overall critics at 83%. No audience score yet. Based on what I’ve read, which is a lot of spoilers, I think both drop when NTTD reaches the US. Just my opinion.

Personally, I prefer metacritic. The metacritic scores of the Craig films:

    CR - 80
    QOS - 58
    SF - 81
    SP - 60
    NTTD - 70

Rotten Tomatoes is a bit junk, it’s really commoditized film reviews I think if that makes sense. Given two movies with five ratings:
    10/10
    9/10
    10/10
    5/5
    5/10 (outlier)

    And

    6/10
    6/10
    7/10
    3/5
    6/10

RT will tell you the second film has a higher rating (even though the first film is scoring 90% even with the outlier, and the second film is scoring something like 62%). So you really have to take it with a grain of salt. It’s nice though because you can dig into the reviews themselves as they’re all in the one place.

RT used to have an "average rating" section that would actually calculate the ratings provided by critics, which was a nice counterpart to the percentage of good and bad reviews. Unfortunately, it seems they got rid it or are hiding it some other page I can't find.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20071126062444/http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/casino_royale/

Here's CR with a 94% rating, but the calculated rating averaged at 7.8/10.

I guess what I was saying about RT (here in the states anyways) is that a general or causal movie goer will look at the ratings and decide to see or not to see a movie based on them. Know many people that are like this. I should point out that this does not include hardcore fans of whether franchise, just the casual fan. I’ve done it myself, many times (not that I speak for everyone). Many people will say, “well what’s its rating on RT?” Or, they check it on their phone. If I really want to see a movie, I’ll see it. But if I’m on the fence, it can move the needle.

NTTD will surely have another $100M+ 3 day next weekend when it opens in the US, Russia and France (amongst other new markets). With Columbus Day on October 11th, Sunday in the US may be better than usual. I’m thinking that $300M+ by next Monday is likely. If drops aren’t horrific, NTTD could match or outgross Spectre.

Yeah it all depends on the legs now. We need a second weekend drop in the 50% range.

I'm impressed by the opening amount the movie has made. It will be difficult to find a good replacement for Daniel Craig when it comes to the money he brings in.

I watched it the second time yesterday. Here in Switzerland, Bond is almost as loved as in the UK. The multiplex had 10 screens and they showed Bond in seven. I was there at 5pm and they had to show the visitors where to park because so many people were there for Bond. This makes me very happy. It is even more impressive due to the fact that more than 40 percent are not vaccinated and often don't go to watch it.

Yes I liked it a lot but wasn't able to do a proper comment after the first watch. Not a top ten Bond movie for me but still an awesome movie. However, CR (my favourite movie in general) handles the mixture between fun and emotion much better (imo).

It's slightly unpredictable. It certainly hits you in the gut. I appreciate when somebody sees it twice; that helps. I didn't change my feelings the 2nd time I viewed it. But some people do change a bit one way or the other. It is a lot to process the first time.

For what is worth NTTD just had the best opening weekend of the pandemic era in Italy as well. Unfortunately theaters here still work with a 50% capacity.

Here in Denmark, NTTD had the biggest opening weekend yet for a Bond movie, with 271.000 tickets sold.
