I'll join my voice to the choir: Bond vs. Grant. As for fight between people who are not Bond, Tracy vs. the heavy in OHMSS.

Yep, @00Beast, I too am a fan of the Franks fight. The close quarters feel, the breaking of the glass, and best of all there aren't quick cuts like modern film uses! Those two are really duking it out in there and it's brutal.

I'm also a fan of both the Lazenby beach fight and the fight with Laz and the Draco goons in the hotel room.

The Craig era fights are almost too real for me. There's no fun in them, just squirming in my seat, all though that stairwell fight was choreographed pretty well.

Yeah, Bond vs. 006 heavily ranks up there. I think I enjoyed the QoS fight the most because it was extremely fast, brutal, and Bond still managed to seize the day after being surprised and slashed.

    Favourite?

Probably Tim and Necros slugging it out on that cargo net over Afghanistan.

Though I do have a terrible weakness for the yo-you buzzsaw attack in Octopussy.

One that hasnt been mentioned - Bonds first kill in CR. Nice and brutal and the black and white really helps. Also like the close up on Daniels face as he wrings the life out of the bloke.

Hey, you're not alone! I actually like that one a lot. I completely forgot about it until you brought that up. Yes, it's a great fight, and truly one of Roger's best. I also like how Octopussy actually did something instead of cowering in a corner like Tiffany Case or Mary Goodnight.
  • Bond vs Grant- It isn't a classic fight scene for nothing. Although Bond vs Franks, considering the limitations of the elevator, was damn close. There's been a lot of great fights in the series so to me there isn't really a wrong type of answer here, but these two stand out for me.

Yes the bathroom fight and the stairway fight....i like realistic fights...

Another one that I thought of was Bond vs. Sandor in The Spy Who Loved Me. I liked that one a lot, even though it was a bit short. I thought that both 007 and Sandor put up a good fight, and Roger Moore was better in this one than any of his fights with Jaws, which typically aren't any good, with maybe the exception of the one on the train. Anyway, I loved how Sandor grabbed Bond's tie for dear life, and then once Bond had finished with him, he "cut him loose." Hahaha. Pardon the pun! :-j

There have been some great fights over the course of the Bond films, my top three favorites are:

    - Bond vs. Grant in From Russia With Love
    - Bond vs. Necros in The Living Daylights
    - Bond vs. 006 in GoldenEye

Chalk me up for the same

    :)

I'd probably get hammered for this, but I really like the fight between Bond and Mr. Kil in Die Another Day. It was kind of enclosed, and it was actually pretty brutal at times! The only downer was that Jinx kept throwing worthless lines around, distracting us from the action at hand.

The problem was with so many lasers you knew Bond would never have been hit which that ruined any suspense the scene had.

@Samuel001: That is very true. The lasers were just there for the atmosphere. Sure, it was cool watching Bond dodge the lasers while fighting Kil, but come on, how stupid are we? There wasn't any real danger.

At the risk of my reputation I'm going to back you up here 00Beast. For me this is the one action scene in DAD with a bit of novelty about it. OK the whole laser thing is a bit outlandish (although is it any more so than the GF laser table and I dont hear people slagging that off) but having the two men fight whilst at the same time dodging in and out of the beams isnt a bad idea and Mr Kils death is pretty gruesome. As you point out though the fact Jinx features so prominently ruins the scene. Quelle surprise.
  • What's interesting to me is how my opinions have changed as I've gotten older...

When I was 12 my favourite fights were the underwater fight at the end of TB (is that really a "fight"?) and the Kobe docks fight. The TB fight was so unusual and different at the time that I could watch it over and over...well, I couldn't, because VCRs went common at the time! But the Kobe dock fight was my favourite. When I was 12 Bond was all about wish fulfillment for me. The idea of effortlessly beating up every guy who comes at you...that sense of power was catnip to a 12 year old. Now when I see that scene I cringe at Bond shooting relatively defenseless guys (like the lone unarmed guy 20 feet behind him!) and I see that the punches are about 2 feet away from connecting. And that's on Youtube, I can't imagine how much more noticeable it would be on a movie screen! But I still admire the artistry of the aerial shot and Barry's sweeping music.

Then when I got older I liked the more dynamic fights, specifically the ones in OHMSS (all of them, but probably the beach fight best) and the train fight in FRWL. I saw FRWL in a rep theatre a while ago and the fight still looks great on the big screen. I can't even imagine how it and the fights must have seemed to audiences when the films first came out...for that reason they're probably the "best".

I did quite like the fight with Trevelyan in GE but I wonder if some of it has to do with being surprised that manorexic Brosnan was credible in a fight. It's still very well done from what I can remember. But I think my favourite is the stairwell fight in CR. There was a palpable tension in the audience as it was going on and shock at the end at how beaten up Bond looked - very effective in showing what a struggle it was. Wonderfully designed, shot, and executed. And the fact that the Slate fight in QoS was just as impressive shows how far we've come from the lame fights in the latter Brosnan efforts!

I must also give props to how beaten up Dalton looked at the end of LTK - you really had a sense of what a struggle getting Sanchez was and how much he had to work for it. Wonderful change from the SuperBond films that Moore did.

Completely agree with you here. That has always been a favorite scene for me, when Bond just takes a breather, leans back against the rocks, and sighs. After everything he's gone through to avenge Felix and Della, he's just glad it's over.

Tough call on the all-time best fight from a Bond film, so I think a top 3 would probably be easier to put together:

    -Bond vs. Red Grant (FRWL)
    -Bond vs. Trevelyan (GE)
    -Bond vs. Obanno (CR)

Another one for me would be the bar fight in License to Kill. I like all the mayhem and confusion of it, and it's simply a well constructed fight, even though it's not Bond vs. just one opponent.

One that I think may be overlooked is Bond vs. Blofeld at the end of OHMSS. I really like that one for several reasons. For one, it's fast-paced, and a real chase there at the beginning. Two, you can see the tension between the two foes in how long it takes for Bond to catch up with Blofeld. He survives gunshots, gun-throwing, and a grenade as he is determined to catch the SPECTRE leader. Three, when Bond does catch him, the ensuing fist-fight is incredible! It's a real contest between them until Bond utilizes the oncoming tree branch. For someone who isn't wild about OHMSS, I still think this fight is one of the best.

It's got to be Bond v Grant. Love the build up to it also.

    Based on @LAWNMOWERMAN's idea:

    Sean Connery
-Red Grant on the Orient Express
-Emilio Largo and thugs on the Disco Volante
    -Chauffeur in Osato's office
    -Peter Franks in the elevator

    George Lazenby
-Che Che in the hotel room
    -Blofeld on bobsleds

    Roger Moore
    -Tee Hee on the train
    -Thugs in the Beirut nightclub
-Max Zorin on the Golden Gate Bridge

    Timothy Dalton
-Dario and thugs in the Barrelhead Bar

    Pierce Brosnan
-Alec Trevelyan on the GoldenEye satellite
-Carver's thugs on the printing press
    -Lachaise's thugs in the bank
-Mr. Kil in the fake diamond mine

    Daniel Craig
    -Stephen Obanno in the stairwell
    -Slate in the hotel room
    -Dominic Green in the hotel

How I love some of the classic scenes, including Red Grant on the train and vs. Alec in Goldeneye. But today I am casting my top vote to the stairwell fight in Casino Royale. Any other day, I could change my mind, but I think it is always in the top 3 fights for me. That was so very well done, you just felt the battering and brutal realism of it, the pacing was perfect, the whole scene was flawless (for me anyway).

My vote goes to bond vs grant on the train.
but another one i like which hasn't been mentioned is bond vs mr jones in DN.
it probably hasn't been mentioned because it isn't that long but i love the whole scene and the little fight they have.

Without a doubt its Bond versus Red Grant! Fantastic stuff!

Agreed, Bond vs. Grant hands down. It's the the standard bearer, the one all others should be judged by.

An honorable mention however to the kitchen fight between Necros and the Mi6 agent. It often gets overlooked, but it's qutie good.

Yeah, it does get overlooked often just because it doesn't include Bond, but you're right, it's really great! I love the part where Necros whacks Green Four in the face with the frying pan. A quick and brutal way of finishing the duel.

That's my pick probably, either that one or Bond and Grant. Bond and Renard isn't bad either.
