The Brosnan films were the ones that questioned his place on the modern world, the Craig films didn’t really go there. It was part of Skyfall, but only a small part. And C obviously tried to make out that his time was done, but we knew he was a baddie from the start.

Only GE and DAD did, and only in one brief scene in each, both involving M. Neither movie was molded around questioning Bond's place the way the last 3 Craig movies were.

They didn’t do that. NTTD didn’t do that in any way at all.

I honestly can see how it makes sense. They took the basis of the story from Fleming: his Octopussy has Bond going after the murderer of his childhood mentor Oberhauser, and then they decided to combine that with bringing back Blofeld. So they made Blofeld Oberhauser's son who commited patricide... I mean, as a story it makes sense.
Actually, when you put it like that... Someone should've at least said 'But...but...Goldmember!', though.

After listening to this track from The Batman soundtrack, I'd love for Michael Giacchino to score Bond 26.

    @slide_99 ... If you saw NTTD, you'd see it wasn't a satire.

Actually, none of the Craig films were "deconstructive satire"s.... Can you please define what that means and how it relates to this era?

I mean that Craig's last 3 movies were meta commentaries on the creation of Bond movies rather than canonical Bond movies. Not a popular opinion, but it's mine.

If Eon made it, it's canon.

Just saw preview for Uncharted...wow ! In terms of where does Bond go after Craig, films like this one, and the MI films, have def. raised the bar in terms of entertaining adventure films with big, extraordinary action sequences...

I thought Uncharted was rubbish! Poor characters and story, and the action was distincly lacking in thrills!

I had a good time with Uncharted, but I never played the games. It was enjoyable, unremarkable fluff.

Nice. We all know Michael Giacchino scored The Incredibles after Barry turned it down, and did a great job emulating Barry in that movie. I would be happy if he came on board for the next Bond film.

If The Batman is a massive hit at the box office, watch this film to see the mood and tone for the next Bond film. This is an absolute certainty. Recent Bond films have followed the trend of Batman as closely as, say the Bourne franchise.

And from what we understand of this film, its gritty, dark, scary, violent. So all those clamouring for underwater Lotus cars, double-taking pigeons, Tarzan yells and invisible cars - forget it! ;)

And I also think Slide_99 has some very well considered views on the series, which I think others are a bit too eager to scoff at.

He’s used most of his posts since joining to moan about a film he hasn’t even seen.

Well, according to this article, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is going to be the Screenplay writer for Bond 26.
    https://metro.co.uk/2019/09/27/phoebe-waller-bridge-is-being-lined-up-to-write-bond-26-and-we-are-ready-10817942/
And according to the article, she said she would sneak in a bit of Feminist humour, so either we're getting a scene where:
    - Bond enters a lesbian bar accidentally.
    - Bond gets a girl but then discovers a little surprise on beetwen her legs.
    - A group of SJW's cancelling Bond because of not using They/He pronouns.
    P.D.: It's a joke what i'm saying, okay? I don't intend to offend anyone.
  • On the one hand, I think a shake-up is a good idea: new actor, new "continuity" after the Craig era, and new screenwriters to go with. Purvis and Wade have had their innings.

On the other hand: I can see why Waller-Bridge was such a hot property during the height of Fleabag's success, and getting her for NTTD felt like a coup. But I'm not sure I 'felt' her presence in the NTTD script all that much, and I wonder why it wouldn't be a better idea to move on to someone completely new. I thought part of the appeal was that she and Craig knew one another?

I wouldn't be remotely worried about Phoebe WB writing Bond 26, but the article says only that she 'could' write it - and 'could' is a long way from 'will', after all. Same with Phoebe 'reportedly' writing it - that's not the same as 'is' writing it. The bit about her 'sneaking in feminist humour' was in relation to NTTD, too - and, as you say, there wasn't all that much in it, right? Nowt to be concerned about, I reckon.

To paraphrase, she has said that Bond has got to continue to be Bond; I would have no concerns about her scripting the next film. In fact I think that her perspective would prevent an overcompensating for modern trends.

Feminist humour? That’s an oxymoron, isn’t it? Like ‘Feminist Comedian’. ;) And with that, i’ve just cancelled myself. Tata and farewell.

Hells bells, Bond did alright with Pussy Galore, and her preference was women...

Yeah NTTD detractors are a protected class here since the release of the film. Suggesting victimhood and mistreatment doesn't ring true.

I note folks new to the forum that liked the film pretty much didn't stick around. I can understand that.

There was a lot of wisdom in Siskel and Ebert simply using Thumbs Up or Down. Either a film is worth seeing, or not.

So the next Bond film is gonna be even darker than the Craig films? The Batman is rated 15A in the UK.

I think personally if they do take influence from it, it'll be more the younger, no origin story approach as opposed to the tone. Although never say never I guess.
