    NO TIME TO DIE (2021)
Finally got to sit down and have my first viewing on the small screen. To start with, it looks and sounds fantastic in 4k! I was hoping this would be better than my very first view in the cinema....and it was...in spades! The first hour is sheer perfection, doesn't put a foot wrong, cracking pts, titles ( and though I wouldn't listen to the theme on its own, it works really well with Kleinmans titles), cast are superb, Craig is fantastic, opening raid, Bond in Jamaica, Bonds meet with Felix, and I really adore the Cuba set piece, and the scenes on the boat after. It slows down after that, but scenes I had big issues with, Bond confronting M, Blofeld scene, and Safin meets Madeleine, played much better now. Even the action in Norway and the climax were more thrilling this time! As for THAT ending, it actually did raise a slight lump in my throat, and I didnt mind the use of my beloved OHMSS theme this time! All in all a very positive viewing, Oh, and a definite shout out to Linus cinematography, beautiful throughout! Have to review my rankings definitely!

Deary me mate, what a turnaround 😄

My third viewing was the most I've enjoyed the film. Craig’s performance really hit home. Ranking it will be difficult!

Haha, I know I know mate!
It was like I was watching a different film!! Its certainly not a masterpiece, and maybe I might feel different next viewing, but really enjoyed it this time! Yes, i found it hard to rank first time, this times gonna be a bitch! Mind you, I do still prefer CR and QOS!

Me too. It has many flaws but is still a cracking watch. It's definitely really well paced. It never seems that long.

4th viewing of NTTD and I'm loving it more every time.

I noticed this time that Nomi's line "Stay in your lane" when she first meets Bond is in the trailer but not the finished film. Good thing 👍

Love that line from Bond after Madeleine says she wants to show him something..."What, another child...?" 😄

Oh and that staircase firefight gets more badass every time I see it 😎

Best fight in a bond movie ? Probably!

Best slap in a bond movie ? :-O Yes, I wonder if it was a real slap. It does not seem to be fake. Connery looks really uncomfortable.

Casino Royale (2006) at Casino Royale in concert, accompanied by the West Australia Symphony Orchestra.
Being a Bond film and one of my favourites, I was excited. But I had no idea it was going to be this good. It was absolutely amazing. Having the orchestra playing the soundtrack live was unbelievable. Really enjoyed it. And then of course the Bond theme over the closing credits. Wow!

Goldfinger, The Man with the Golden Gun, and GoldenEye (The Gold Pack)

I enjoyed watching these three in a pack because they represent such a broad variety of elements and styles in the Bond series. Goldfinger is the classic well-rounded Bond movie with one of the most appealing formulas, while TMWTGG and GE follow their own paths with endearing individuality. TMWTGG leans into camp (yet does balance the darker elements as well as it can) while GE emphasizes the darker undertones without overdoing it. I'd recommend this three-pack to anyone looking for an impromptu Bond watch party.

The biggest take-aways on this viewing of each were the following:

-GF's boring pace between Bond's capture and the Fort Knox raid
-Roger Moore's enticingly darker performance throughout TMWTGG
-GE's greatness in truly establishing its own format

    THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987)
Timothy Daltons debut is as enjoyable now as it was on that first viewing in Summer 1987! Loved Roger, but I was blown away by Dalton. You just cant take your eyes off him. Encapsulates Flemings Bond completely for me! A hardened, bitter ("if he fires me, I'll thank him for it!") Dark, wonderfully smooth, and any other description you want to say. And the film is a great springboard from Flemings short story, after the best pts, a good story, great characters ( dont care who knows it, love the 3 main villains!) Wonderful final score from John Barry, terrific, exciting action, and again, despite somes criticism, the Afghanistan sequence has a lot to enjoy in it, before the thrilling finish with the cargo net fight! And the final encounter with Whitaker, was a nice throwback to the final reel showdown of the earlier movies!
Classic Bond for me, it even has the last great classic Bond poster!

An all round winner for me, as you know mate. My favourite PTS and one of the best climaxes in the series. For me it was the best the best Bond film since the 60's.

It's 4th on my rankings and I can't see that ever changing. Love it!

    You have great taste @LeonardPine
TLD could be number 1 for me, if OHMSS didnt exist! Fleming would have loved Dalton methinks!

Also my number 1. I even like the Afghanistan section, the final confrontation with Whitaker and the villains. I also like the more convoluted plots that one may not entirely understand at first viewing.

Was watching TLD and something caught my eye. During the pre-credits, we get a shot of a family in a car at Gibraltar: A father, mother, and daughter. The man playing the father driving the car is the same guy who played a goon driving a car during the chase in FYEO.

    SPECTRE (2015)
Am not one of the haters of Craigs second last Bond, and because I felt so let down by SKYFALL,
( going to give it yet another chance soon, after purchasing it in 4k!) I really enjoyed this on first viewing in the cinema, and since! But I didnt fully enjoy it this time! Yes, still great moments, most of the pts, Rome section, and that fantastic fight sequence on the train, and there are lovely Bond scenes, (!) ,007 taking out the two assassins, the first meet in Madeleines office, Bond and Madeleine waiting on the Rolls Royce to appear, but it did seem more glum this time. Am convinced Sam Mendes was never a good fit for Bond movies!.....Or maybe I just wasnt in the mood today 🤣 Had a great watch of TMWTGG recently, may hsve to switch them around in my listings after this viewing!!

Last one was No Time To Die (second viewing). I really like a lot about that film, up until Bond interrogates Blofeld really (the 'die Blofeld die' reference is... well, weird). I think the ending is poorly handled and looks like it was rushed. Safin's whole motivation seems to change and they've clearly inserted shots of random 'buyers' coming up in boats to the island in order to insert some tension into the climax. Not a fan of how the ending was handled.

The one before that was For Your Eyes Only. Haven't watched it in years. I might be in the minority on this, but I personally find it one of the worst Bond films.
  • No Time to Die

The first 2/3 of the film are up there with the very best of Bond. The last 1/3 is a train wreck I'd rather forget.

    FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981)
'Operation Undertow' is generally the overlooked Bond in Moores era! But I still glean a lot of enjoyment from it. From the spectacular pts ( up until 'NotBlofeld's demise!) through one of Binders best title sequences, Carole Bouquets gorgeous leading lady, the fun car chase, the beautiful Greek location work (enhanced by my recent reading of 'Colonel Sun') the atmospheric Casino scene, a great ally in Topols Colombo, some cool ski action, Rogers wheezy foot chase after Locque, the terrific Keelhauling set piece, and Contis breezy score make this 007 adventure a guilty pleasure!

Though I saw it about a eight times in the first month of its release, which I do with all Bond films, regardless of how I felt about them, I have a lot of trouble sitting through it now. Even the parts I used to like. Maybe because I know where it’s leading, but I can’t remain interested for very long. A lot of it is the soap opera. I have zero interest in Bond, Madeline and the kid as a plot point.
