    First post on the new boards, hold the applause...

    We've all had a good cry and a massive whinge on how bad this game is a disgrace and how bad it will be. We are a very harsh group us Bond fans. It's understandable, i had the same reaction to the game. Being a hardcore fan it seems like they are being a bit cavalier with the franchise.

    But what they are doing is selling games and appealing to a younger market who perhaps aren't familiar with the older Bond movies. It's all a marketing ploy and i say it will work. If goldeneye Wii sold millions with Craig as Bond this will be no different.

    As for the next movies to be announced i thinnk it will be movies that have no recent game, so no TND or TWINE.

    DAD is the obvious choice especially if they want a car chase, i think the ice palace will come into it somewhere. TLD will be another and starting at the afghan base and finishing in the back of the plane.

    Lastly GF is the more popular Connery movie and will most likely be in next

    @alec_006, define "recent," because both TND and TWINE have had game releases in the last ten to fifteen years. DAD is the most viable of choices.

    And basing sales off of Craig as Bond doesn't work, just look at 'Bloodstone' or 'Goldeneye: Reloaded'.

    Precisely, Craig as Bond in order to cash in on the younger fans with only COD expertise is not working. Brosnan sure did work though! 007 Nightfire and Everything or Nothing anyone? There's your successful 007 gaming right there!

    And that's the thing, every new FPS series coming out of the gate has to mock CoD for success, and I'm tired of it. Loses me as a fan, along with many others who despise CoD, because I guarantee for every person who loves and praises CoD, there is another who hates it. The CoD lovers aren't going to look at it and say "Hey, it looks like Call of Duty, I might buy it." because they already have what they are looking for. Those that hate CoD, such as myself, look at it, have aforementioned flashbacks of a terrible game, and choose to pass on it.

    I've said it before, though: I know it will be hard to make a James Bond game without it turning into some big action fest, because the films aren't always about that. Look at QoS: it gave us the sweet first-person view Mollaka chase scene. But before that, we had a big shoot-'em-up with enemies that aren't in the film. It's how it's handled like that that makes it hard for them to make a direct adaptation of a game.

    Either way, the game looks way too much like CoD for my tastes, and too many things are changed for me to enjoy myself, I feel.

    @Creasy47: Good point about the duality there between Call of Duty fans and criticizers. I think it really is hitting hard on the Bond games as a result. I have a friend from church who bought GoldenEye on the Wii strictly because it was a shooter game and you can play online for free on the Wii, and I play online, so he wanted to be able to play with me. Now I'm perfectly fine with that, in fact I was glad he did, but it just disappointed me that it wasn't because he was a Bond fan- it was because it was like Call of Duty, and I'm pretty certain that he himself said that.

    @00Beast, that is very upsetting. I just wonder when those who flock to the CoD releases every year will wake up and say "H-hey, wait a minute, this feels like the game I bought last year, and the year before, and the year before that...and the year before, and the year before that."

    They have a formula that keeps them going to the point that they make $1 billion every year, so why not? I don't blame them. I just know I won't be wasting my money on the franchise anymore.

    Thus, is '007 Legends' is going to take that route, and make me feel like James Bond is a CoD grenade-spamming super soldier, then I will pass. I'll check out some gameplay videos of it, along with the high probability that this game will come and go very quickly.

    A pathetic 2.5m sales across all 3 platforms for the Craig GE, not to mention not even a million units shifted for Bloodstone somewhat refutes your theory that this marketing strategy is working when CoD is outselling it 10 to 1.

    The most disappointing thing about all this is that having seen woeful returns for the last 2 Bond games any other company might think 'Hmm. Lets change tack. We've got this 50th anniversary coming so lets start from scratch and come up with something original.'

    But not old Activision. They are perfectly happy to keep churning out CoD clones (the week before the new CoD is released) to diminshing returns and plough their rights into the ground. One can only assume that when the current contract expires EON dont offer them a renewal because they cant be making any money off these idiots business strategy. Except of course the very existence of this game proves that EON are as clueless when it comes to the games industry as Activision.

    Exactly. With the older 007 games like Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and From Russia with Love, we had some variety that kept the games diversified and extremely entertaining (although AUF isn't terrific). With the newer releases, with the exception of BloodStone, everything feels very commonplace and old hat, like the newness has been dialed back considerably. Now I like QoS, but as far as GoldenEye Reloaded is concerned, I wasn't impressed, which disappointed me greatly, because I was looking forward to it.

    @00Beast, you and I both. I spent a month asking my girlfriend for it for Christmas, and she finally bought it for me. I'm glad I played it alone so she didn't see the sorrow and dismay written all over my face.

    But, lesson learned.

    Don't worry, they have confirmed it is legit. I guess we won some sort of limited edition briefcase?

    I got a mail from Activison about it and they said it was only people in USA that could recive this briefcase.. They never fails to dissapoint. @BritishChap007

    I accept defeat, obviously i didn't do my research properly,

    By recent i meant EA games. I felt as though DAD would be suited to a game but we never got one.

    DAD, to me, seems to be the only viable choice - in terms of what games they haven't touched. The film is very action-packed, and would work nicely as a film-to-game adaptation. But, the title of the game IS '007 Legends,' and out of Brosnan's four films, I feel this is the furthest from a 'legendary' status. I just hope they don't do GE again - my favorite film, one of my favorite Bond games, but I don't need another rendition of it.

    But is MR Moore's most legendary? Why not TSWLM on the Liparus?

    I work in the gaming business, love Bond and know something about this game from friends of mine who worked on it. Here's what you need to know:

    First, the movie producers decided it had to be Craig. Craig is Bond. Period. That's why Craig was in the Goldeneye remake.

    Second, even if they had wanted to use Connery, etc., -- which they didn't -- it wouldn't be economically feasible. You may think the 50th Anniversary is a momentous occasion and they should have sprung for the money, but try telling that to Connery, Bronsan or even Moore's agents. They're not in the charity business, nor sentimental. They would have all demanded millions for this, which the game couldn't possibly support.

    Finally, understand that while Activision publishes the game, and Eurocom makes it, almost all the control is held by the movie producers. You can blame Activation all you want, but the producers control Bond, and how the character will be used. Absolutely nothing is done without their direction and approval.

    I laughed really hard at @007's comment, so I'll have to prove childish and agree with him.

    First time post from a brand new user who 'has friends who have worked on the game.' Incredibly believable.

    I love (sarcasm) people that pretend that they know everything about an actor to the point where they feel they can speak for them. Not all Bond actors would want megamillions to do this. For Fleming's sake, I'm sure Roger would do it for free he loves Bond so much. This is simply another case of people who "have connections" (ha) in the gaming business and think they have an inside scoop on everything. Laughable.

    Excellent question, and now thinking on that note, we really did get cheated out of that! I've always wanted to play that battle in a game of TSWLM. I suppose I'll have to settle for the Sub Pen on Nightfire using the Phoenix Soldiers and Commandos as Stromberg's crew!

    I think MR was just the easiest for them to go with in terms of action. But, if they're basing it off of the finale, look at what @00Beast said and take a look at the finale of TSWLM. If anything, that has more action than MR's ending.

    Y'know, I was cutting Activision some slack because I found out they couldn't have used the other Bonds due to contracts, but they didn't WANT TO?! I hate Activision. COD makes them enough money every year alone to pay the other Bond actors, and Moore loves anything Bond related so he'd have done it, Connery did the FRWL game so maybe he'd have done it, Lazenby turns up to Bond related events so he'd probably have done it, same with Dalton, and Brosnan would've probably done it.

    Precisely! Moonraker's ending battle isn't nearly as long or as action-filled as that of The Spy Who Loved Me. Also, they've changed the battle from laser guns to machine guns, which takes away from the original movie itself. Had they used The Spy Who Loved Me, they wouldn't have had to change anything. On a related note, a seriously hope Legends doesn't take the "From Russia with Love Approach" and cram in outlandish action sequences that never occured in the movie just to make the game more playable. I was playing it today actually, and there's one level where Kerim and 007 are attempting to make it to Station T when a big ol' Russian tank blocks their path, and you spend quite some time going around this one neighborhood trying to find a turret to destroy the tank. WHAT?! I mean seriously, come on, that's overblowing it quite a bit.

    You're right, I can think of several instances, like all of those gun fights while "chasing" Mitchell, the entire Sinkhole level, all the gun fights while "chasing" Mollaka, the entire Casino Royale level basically, and the entire Barge level. Now I love playing QoS, but it does irk me that none of these sequences ever occured in the movie at all.

    @00Beast, they just served as mere placeholders so you could have more explosion-filled moments. Like the chase with Mollaka, for instance: don't you end up firing rockets at a truck or shooting at propane tanks to destroy a humvee or something? And then you begin the chase, which was cool to see in first-person, but felt extremely forced.

    Although I doubt I'll purchase the game, I fear '007 Legends' is going to take the same road.

    Absolutely. One of the moments in CR that not only lacked, but didn't even hint at, a slight bit of action, and it's a full blown shoot-em-up fest after you speak with Vesper. The only memorable bit from that level was after you're done chatting with her, you have a Vesper martini sitting on the table; it was nice to see, but even this isn't present until later on in the film.

    The only consolation: the PS2 version kept the scene virtually the same as in the film.
