Oh yeah, I love those where you can watch the movie with the commentary at the same time! I used to do that all the time on those select episodes of Batman the Animated Series where the directors/producers really liked that particular one.
The fencing scene is one of the best fights in the series, and Brosnan is a great Bond in an average movie.

I love it. Almost everything about it is perfect. I went to see it in the cinema disappointed that Dalton was gone, but by the end Brosnan had won me over and had showed me that he was a great Bond. I think it gets a lot of unfair flack for being "formulatic", when so are almost all the Bond films.
I like DN, but it just bores me. It was the first one I know, but I don't think it was as good as most of Connery's other films. FRWL, GF, TB and YOLT were big improvements imo.
Having said that, DN is still in my Top Ten.
I've never much cared for GE, but all the fanfare on this site got me curious that maybe I had missed something. So I revisited GE a few months ago and thought it was ok. Having had some more time to process, I've found I dislike GE more and more. Brosnan is merely serviceable; he lacks a certain...charisma maybe? Not sure, but he never draws me in. I've also found Alec's whole scheme a bit convoluted and his motivations are unconvincing. The story really never shows Bond's and Alecs friendship, except for one scene, and it's rather forced. On a superficial level, the locations are pretty drab too.
DN on the other hand, has a real intriguing mystery story. Connery is perfect, and his interchange with Dr. No is classic. DN is perhaps underated because it doesn't have the high production values and the formula and character haven't quite been established. But it is a damn good escapade of a movie.
I think its the better film, i like both and both are in my top ten, but Dr No is just so cool imo and i think it edges it.
Plus Connery is excellent in the part.
It may be cheesey but I just enjoy it a bit more. The soviet atmosphere really does it for me.
Dr No is great though and definitely in my top 10.

Agreed. I watched it for the first time for five years the other day and, ye, gods the dialogue.
Its very "it says here" ie the actors are given such unnatural dialogue that it kicks you out of the story. Maybe repeated viewing nuls you to the clunky dialogue. I now rate it below TND and that is saying something.

I love both. At one time I was able to say that both the first and last Bond film were in my top 3. That was until '97 of course. ;-)
Why so much love for GE? Man, need I spell it out? ;-) A six year wait, me being 13 and with a cinematic Bond experience finally well in reach (age 7 when LTK came and of course considered too young by the parental powers that were), the 90s feel all over it (and I had the best years during the 90s) and the exciting introduction of a new Bond (although I am a fierce Daltonite, as demonstrated by my awesome Dalton tattoo all over my genitals). All this can of course be summed up as nostalgia. How about the film itself?
Very well, superb cinematography, cold but cerebral atmosphere, best Bond - M dialogue ever, interesting albeit controversial score, truly wonderful and often underrated theme song, BEST . OPENING TITLES . EVER!, tremendous acting (what a cast!), great story, amazing script, magnificent action, 2000 buckets of a little thing called fun, Isabella :x, Femke :\">, Sean ^:)^ and so much more. All of the above, IMHO of course. ;-)
I don't care if Brosnan got Bond back on it's feet in 1995, did well and the overall release was a success. The fact of that matter is that, Connery started it all off in '62, got closer to Fleming that year than Brosnan ever was able, put in a very strong, almost immaculate performance and it was where it all started and it beats Goldeneye hands down, I know which one I'd watch If I had time. Andress wins over Scorupco and Wiseman was a far better adversary than Trevelyan and Bean. It's not always about big bangs and budgets and how much extravaganza they can fit into Bond, more so the overall quality, presentation and a story that grips the viewer and doesn't need excessive amounts of dollars spent in order to achieve it. Dr No works perfectly with regards to that, and is a clear winner

Ah, now that's where I disagree, I love GE and prefer it to DN, but Honey>>>Natalya. Onnatop though...
It's weird, I've been pondering why this is the case but I just like Natalya's 'homeliness' and how she doesn't need to 'flaunt' her beauty. That and the little smile and mole on her cheek.
