Glad he turned it down 10 years ago if he only saw Bond as a joke and didn't pick up a book until they asked him again... to his surprise! Shocking lack of imagination for a writer in that regard. Then to say you _enjoyed_ TSWLM growing up, but then apparently only saw it ripe for parody... I worry it will be a dark comic that leads Bond into being some sort of sadist.

Looks like a mix between Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. Maybe some Mel Gibson in there too? Interesting look.

Definitely thought of Mel Gibson there. ("Welcome to Mel, Blofeld!")

What gun is that? Don't recognise it as a Walther.

Looking for a Walther P99 in a similar pose, and other models like the PPQ.

Maybe not so squared/blocked for the barrel shape. But similar.

    PPS is smaller, but similar.

I don't liked the cover art at all.
One of the things that interests me in reading comics is if the artwork of the cover is good, because it adds to the appeal.
But if Bond looked a bit ugly like this 😅, I don't know.

Just read it now, here's my review:
Just read it, it's okay, but it's predictable since from the start that Gann is a traitor, and her turning heels against Bond is not surprising.

I liked the banter of Bond and Gann, I've felt that they're a match for each other, so that's a plus.

But by the end, it became a bit rushed, so okay Gann became a villain, but also decided to leave the mess that she and Fromm made? Like what's that? There's no resolution or whatsoever, does this mean Bond didn't finished the mission? Maybe.

At the start, I liked the build up towards this Myrmidon thing and the villain, but by the time that Gann was introduced, I know she's a villain, but I've still kept on reading to know what would happen, and in this ending, It's just.....Meh? Like it's not groundbreaking like what I've expected it to be, but again, my expectations weren't high either, but I expect at least a bit of intrigue, but it comes off as bland or lacking of flavour.

I liked the concept of someone taking the place of the main villain (Gann replacing Fromm when it's clear that Fromm is the main villain, but Gann replacing him is quite good), but the execution is where it didn't land for me.

Overall, just felt a bit bloated by this ending, it could've been better, but to me, it felt rushed, just messed up all over the place.
I'm not disappointed, but just felt 'okay', that's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Regarding the visuals, it's great, great artwork, but the story is where it fell off.

I couldn't give a score to it as of now, my mind is still has yet to make up regarding what will be the score of this one, but I'm telling you know, the Agent Of Spectre, the last story, is way better.

Thanks to Diamond Comics, here are the cover and synopsis of the third issue of James Bond 007 :
    STL308116.jpg

Inimitable author GARTH ENNIS accelerates the action in his inaugural James Bond tale with part three of "Your Cold, Cold Heart!"

The hunt for the stolen STALVODA formula has led Bond into orbit, where he meets a man from the project's shady past - but 007 soon learns he's not the only killer in space. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Moneypenny suddenly finds she's also a target!

Ever since The Moneypenny Diaries and Skyfall, Moneypenny has had her role expanded in the average Bond story. I'm happy, it's paying off.

'James Bond: 007 is unlikely to win over those who aren’t already fans of Bond or Garth Ennis.'

I think that probably sums it up the best, that review didn't raise my hopes for the run but I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm down for dark satire but I've never been a fan of when the comics have gotten gratuitously violent with the imagery.

Going back a little though, I finally got around to finishing King and Country. So for context the delivery of the last three issues got jumbled around for me so I decided to reread Myrmidon, King and Country, 1-3 and then read 4-6 all in one go. And I don't know whether it was not having sat with the last three or the change in art style but it was a slightly disappointing end to the run. If anything though I wanted more depth that a comic could give. But
Bond being on the run from his own government, living as a fugitive, the OO hunt
are great concepts that are well executed. Spalletta might be favourite Bond comic artist, but I really have come to appreciate Finnegan's artwork and I love how London is made a character.

Okay, I was going to let it pass, but I can't. I just can't.

The art for the new comic features the structural formula of a molecule. Well, it's utter BS. Ring structures like these can exist with carbon atoms (C), but not with oxygen atoms (O), and certainly not when they are linked with hydrogen atoms (H) that bond twice. And if this were a rind with C atoms, no O atoms, and no H atoms that bond twice, it'd be benzene, a substance hardly worth mentioning on the cover of a James Bond comic.

Would it hurt them to check with someone who knows a thing or two about chemistry?

I get it: it's a comic, roll with it, Dimi! But many films and comics do what they can to acknowledge biology and physics, so why not chemistry?

This reminds me of Bond's insulting remark in Moonraker: "It's the chemical formula of a plant!" Yes, THAT's what I find problematic about Moonraker...

Anyway, just another case of "bad chemistry" in popular culture for my students to have a good time with. ;-)

Most geeky post ever put on the forum. ;))

To be fair to Mr Ennis, he's known for his comic book writing not his chemistry degree. I don't even know if he has a chemistry degree. Probably not. I guess the same applies to the cover artist Dave 'flunked chemistry at school' Johnson. 🤭

Cover and synopsis for issue 5 of James Bond 007 :

Hot on the trail of the stolen STALVODA compound, Bond finds himself in strife-torn Syria, where an old ally may be able to provide some new intelligence. But when 007 stirs up a local hornet's nest, the response involves every gun they've acquired in more than 10 years of civil war. Drastic action is called for, as time is fast running out for the British agent – and the world!
Featuring a statuesque cover by DAVE JOHNSON (100 Bullets, Superman: Red Son, Deadpool) and intriguing interiors by 007 veteran RAPHA LOBOSCO (James Bond: Black Box), Part Five of "Your Cold, Cold Heart" from comics legend GARTH ENNIS stokes the fires of celebration for a decade of James Bond comics at Dynamite!

If they do another series after this one, I hope the title can change to something more unique. "James Bond 007" is a lazy title and can easily be confused with other miniseries.

Agreed about titling. Cool cover, though. Light Lenin up. Too bad about Bond's foot apparently getting blown off.
