Or possibly running away knowing Tom ;)
Having reviewed the photo's posted from JustJared, and the ones from the biplane scenes that appeared a while ago, it looks like Tom is indeed wearing the same outfit.
Well spotted @mtm
I think they are aware that DR did not connect with audiences to the degree that other entrees had; it's not a bad movie by any means but there was something missing.
I tend to think the weight of dealing with COVID restrictions during the prolonged production didn't help.
The initial thought may have been to have the next film be a direct follow up, but is appears that they are making it clear that some time has past, Tom's longer hair being one gauge . No doubt the two films will be connected in some ways but they are approaching this in a way that will give it it's own identity.
Yeah, it's not a bad film, yet like a lot of people have said, (which I also agree with) there's something missing...I don't know what it is. Maybe the upcoming film would have a new baddie? To help create its own identity. If they had known, they shouldn't have named it Part One, so it stays on its own like the other films.
Yeah, that could be it. Although, some filmmakers don't like showing much of something, so it doesn't lose its value. Imagine what Michael Bay would have done with The Entity, LOL. Although, one thing I know is, I felt more mystery and complexity in DR than I did in NTTD. NTTD should have tried to do something complex and more mysterious with the Nanobots like DR did with The Entity. For all the action in DR, it still aimed for suspense and mystery, so it did well and better.
True, true, true....so true. The fact that The Entity doesn't talk, makes it more scary.
On another note, we know that the corporate machine is happy to squeeze every last cent from any franchise. I sincerely hope that the MI brand is not trashed in this process and a genuine attempt to make original, new stories is made.
It's a great scene but perhaps a show of force was needed to try and guilt Ethan into giving it the keys. Perhaps as a cliffhanger for part 2.
1. Mission Impossible (More of a thriller, which i prefer. Expertly directed by De Palma)
2. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (Colorful, kinetic, peak of the action scenes of the franchise, basicly tied for the first spot)
3. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1 (Return to form)
4. Mission Impossible II (Guilty pleasure, so ridiculous it is entertaining, does have some great scenes also)
5. Mission Impossible III (Has some great scenes and a fantastic villain. The second half is dull however, and Abrams is not the best director. But a passable entry nevertheless)
6. Mission Impossible Fallout (Dull and forgettable)
7. Mission Impossible Rogue Nation (Even more dull and forgettable)
I was thrilled with Dead Reckoning too so I’m not knocking that one by any means. I feel like I need to watch it another time to really decide where it ranks. But it’s pretty high up there with Fallout and Rogue Nation.
Basically this series just doesn’t let up. Keeps getting better and better. I honestly don’t know another franchise that does this. Typically sequels don’t get better. There may be a fluke once in a while but you don’t get a string of sequels that are consistently better and better.

It'll be an uphill battle making the next one a big success though. I'm not sure if that many people are excited for these new MI films anymore, and it'll effectively be a sequel to a film a questionable number of people saw (I've not even gotten round to watching it yet). No one seems to be sure whether this'll be Cruise's last film as Hunt, and even then the fan base for this franchise is very soft/there won't be a guarantee they'll see it in the cinema. They've generally been successful but not heavy hitters financially. To clarify I think it could do well, but it's a tricky one.
With a 400 million budget that puts MI:8 in one of the most expensive movies ever made, I believe only AVATAR 2 reaches that level of money spent, and Pirates 4 if you adjust for inflation. It certainly will be mission impossible for Mr Cruise to turn a profit on this film, if that's the case.
It's a good job he has Top Gun 3 coming in a few years...

I understand his motivations. I just think his absence is a loss for the series. Renner made a fine addition to the series; he helped Ghost Protocol become my favorite of the M:I films.
I like the Entity and the sound it makes to appear more terrifying, but being someone who follows the notion of all living being's intelligence given to it via its connected soul, an AI reaching true sentience doesn't work for me unless a soul could tap into a digital system like it may do the brain/nervous system, in which case, it's no longer artificial, but a true sentient intelligence conveyed digitally. But what do I know? We could all be AI and living in an AI reality for billions of years! 😮
Many of the scenes feel like they could do with being edited and the CGI in the final scene ruined any sense of tension for me but otherwise, it’s a very solid entry in the series. It also feels to me like there are too many characters who we don’t get enough time to see / engage with (hopefully something that’s remedied by the next entry).
My expectations were very high going in to see this first time and I was disappointed by the decision to kill off Ilsa and I found Grace to be somewhat charmless but outside of pointless nitpicking at this stage, it’s quite enjoyable and I’d rank it somewhere in the middle of the entries overall.
The most interesting thing on this rewatch for me were the amount of what felt like obvious Bond references, as you mention. The Rome car chase scene felt like it was heavily influenced by SP, the scene between Hunt and Grace where Hunt notes ‘you grew up in poverty, which left you longing for the finer things’ felt very like the Bond / Vesper scene in CR. I know others have pointed out similar between the beginning of DR and TND, also.
It certainly feels like both series are somewhat inspired by each other at this stage.
The interviewer suggested a chase scene through a music festival, and I don't mind that!
(Cruise and McQ were there too so you never know... )
(That's Gillian Anderson there with them)
One thing that's interesting at the end of the article it says "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One was out last summer and featured a submarine that is blown up and sinks. The next offering will revisit the submarine 10 years later."
I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else, is this common knowledge or speculation? Given Cruise's hair a time jump seems likely
