I will definitely hold final judgement until I see it in action, on film, but in photos, the fit of this suit is concerning. It looks like an off the rack, cos-play costume, baggy and ill-fitting

They will digitally edit the suit surely because that looks awful, these shots won't inspire much confidence.

I think it’s worth saying that pretty much all superhero costumes when not actually in the context of the film look ridiculous. Without that sheen of colour grading, SFX, good camera angles etc. it’s literally an actor in a rubber costume. Just look at BTS shots of pretty much every Batman film ever made and you realise how unimpressive the suits can look when divorced from that. The Superman costume is particularly stupid looking in this regard, and it’s easy to get bogged down discussing minor details in what is essentially a spin on the same costume we’ve always seen (and in BTS photos no less).

For me the costume’s fine. I like that it’s colourful and vibrant which is a big indication of what they’re trying to do story/tone wise. In that sense it likely works for the film they’re trying to make, and we don’t know how the decisions in the design have been influenced by this (ie. Someone commented a couple of pages back that they’d prefer a more open neckline as it gives the idea Superman is indestructible as he doesn’t need protection near his chest. I agree and it’d be my preference, but what if that more buttoned up look is there to subtly give us a different impression of Superman’s character in this film? No idea if that’s the case or not, but they’ve consciously designed the suit that way and costume design is a part of film storytelling at the end of the day). I think Corenswet himself looks good. But it’s tricky gauging it without seeing the film. I don’t see any major concerns though.

The colour is great, after giving the suit more thought maybe it is loose so David can move better in it with the intention to digitaly edit the suit in post.

I think this is what we’re seeing: a suit where the actor can have full natural mobility, and then in post they’ll polish what we will end up seeing on screen.

I think these pics, and the finished costume, will be quite noticeably different.

I think it's a given that there'll be some sort of VFX used in tandem with the suit (even if it's just to control how the cape moves in certain scenes or whatever, and I'm sure there'll be some enhancing too to smooth things out). But to me it really doesn't look baggy in these photos. I wouldn't want to run around all day in that suit. This is essentially the suit we're going to see in the film, albeit heavily divorced from the actual context of how it's intended to be depicted visually (not only through VFX but cinematography, editing etc).

Some background: the designer is Judianna Makovsky. She's been the Costume Designer for (to name a few things in her CV) Hunger Games, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Captain America and the final two Avenger movies, The Suicide Squad and the first Harry Potter movie. Even in something like Cirque Du Freak (which is a bad, bad movie, and I say this as someone who loved the Darren Shan novels when I was a teenager) her costume design was pretty solid and actually brought a bit of the film to life. She's a veteran and very accomplished.

From what I can piece together this is a film about a younger Superman coming to terms with something. It doesn't seem to be an origin story, but a version of the character earlier in his superhero career (kinda like The Batman I guess, and it may be the case that much like the costume in that film this is consciously an 'early' version of this hero's suit). Again, I don't know enough about the film, but I suspect this costume has been designed with all this in mind. So it's really a case of waiting and seeing.

I have also read suspected leaked plot details, which make sense after seeing this image.

The more shots that I see of this suit, the more I think that it is an early version created by Clark and that it will be replaced/ refined at some point in the film.

Interesting Will Reeve is 6 feet 4 which maybe a clue to his role.

Do you think there'd ever be a slight chance that we get to see this happen in film?

All the SUPERMAN IV deleted scenes with the original Alexander Courage score restored to them. This is how they should have been presented on the bonus features, instead of with that awful temp music that sounded like something from an old Nintendo game.

Yeah. I'd never seen all the scenes before. I'd even purchase a Blu ray of the movie with the scenes added back in, but it's not something I yearn badly for.

There were a few scenes that I have not watched previously and I have a few different Superman sets.

I would love to see some kind of assembly cut, Lacy needs more screen time.

Superman IV will always have its issues though I am fond of the film and the extra scenes do add more rather than take away from the movie.

It’s a shame the whole nightclub scene is supposedly lost.

Yeah it's bit confusing when Superman just casually walks out of that nightclub to confront Nuclear Man #1; seems like he's just been in there for a drink and a boogie like everyone else!

I’ve read the screenplay for it. It sounds like a potentially cute scene with Clark and Lacy, where for a brief moment they levitate on the dance floor. Though I can imagine the Nuclear Man 1 antics with him being picked up by a drunk girl coming off cringey.

I was an assistant editor on Superman IV. The full version was superior, it all made sense and played well. Warners insisted on the brutal cuts and, due to the tight release schedule, there was no time to complete a final full sound mix etc. of the longer version for the international markets.

I recall our previous conversation, I really hope Warner even with unfinished special effects shots do an assembly cut, it make so much more sense narratively with the deleted scenes added.

Sadly, I don't think Warners will ever spend money on fully restoring Superman IV, after all they were the studio, back in the day, which demanded the severe cuts for the US/N. American release, which they were handling.
