Nicely done @mtm I rather enjoyed that.

Thank you! Yeah I think a more subtle performance works surprisingly well with the same orchestration.

    One for the room:

After Shirley sings "Gooooldfinger", I hear "Dah DAAAAAAH Dah."
Yet in many versions of the song, it goes, "Dah DAH DAH DAH Dah."

Which one is it? Are both out there? Is "my" version the result of poor recording quality? Frankly, the second option has always bothered me. I hear three "words", not five.

Nothing about the AN version works for me. The tone of the SB version feels big and outrageous and glittering. The other version is too casual, lacking urgency, and menace. It's ho hum.

Definitely a different vibe. I still prefer to hear Dame Shirley belt it out and the brass is very welcome. I think Newley's works on a low key kind of way and I can appreciate it too. It was not the version that was suitable for the film.

I have heard it was the demo track used to show the way? Not sure if that is correct or not.

Maybe. I also don't know. But at least they got there.

    Just putting this out there:
If EON didn't prepare some kind of Goldfinger 60th Anniversary 4k restoration/collector/steelbook, then surely WB must be getting close to that 4k Connery Collection release.

Who here has seen or at least went to the Burlington Arcade for Goldfinger at 60th Anniversary? The official James Bond Facebook Page has been sharing some photos from what's inside that Arcade, and they're beautiful, if only I could go there 😅.

I missed that David Arnold joined Matthew Sweet on Radio 3's Sound of Cinema to talk Goldfinger and Bond music:

Hot on the heels of Aston Martin announcing a DB12 Goldfinger special edition, Rolls Royce have unveiled their one off tribute to Mr G’s ride:

The homer in the boot is a lovely fun touch.

Nice bit of trivia: if Richard Vernon (Colonel Smithers) was still alive today, he wouldn't be a hundred years old yet. The man was only 39 (!) at the time of GF's release. He's a few years younger in the film than I am today, yet I can safely say that I look about half his age.

    Colonel_Smithers_by_Richard_Vernon.jpg

I'm honestly astonished. I would have thought him at least 60. (Louis Jourdan was well over 60 in OP! Even Walken was older in AVTAK than Vernon in GF. Strange world.)

... plus having to deal with those strange haired kids in VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED and A HARD DAY'S NIGHT aged him prematurely. :))
