Yep, as much as I like DR, it does feel like it is writing itself as it goes...joys of filming without a well fleshed out script. There are several points in the film where the characters just stop and do an info dump to set the next 20 mins up.
@mtm I agree with your post. But, it's not really possible to make a proper judgement on a teaser. It's perfecty possible that the next movie has the best story of the whole series. But (as we saw with NTTD) it makes the job even harder when you have open story lines that need to be wrapped up and even harder if you decide to include references to previous movies (I have a horrible vision of Hunt being confronted by posters on the wall of all his previous villains), plus, when the stakes are "every soul on the planet" , it looks a little desperate to me. You don't have to have a hero who saves the species to make a compelling story (as we saw in SF) I will say it again, Hunt dealing with the loss of Ilsa and a personal revenge motivation, though not original, is a better footing for a tight story than what I fear is coming. DR could have been the OHMSS of the series but, this time, with a proper revenge that did justice to the lost character. Some story themes never grow old
Yeah I'm certainly hoping so, no judgements yet.
Regarding the past references, McQ has also often said that he will and has ditched any fan service straight away if it gets just slightly in the way of the story (I think Briggs, the TV character, was going to appear in an earlier film but the story went in a different direction), so I do have faith there that the references won't be awkward.
I not really liked The Hurt Locker and also not get in to K19, but i watched Point Break last weak and i like it. It has low pacing and missing more drama. But i think it was oke and see somebody like Patrick Swazy was refreshing. Some things like action, drama and cinematography are inproved later. Like Speed, Bad Boys, Goldeneye or series like Swatt. Some parts remember me of Miami Vice, Baywatch other 80's movies and Keanu Reeves feels a bit of Speed (who is from 3 years later) prequel. Point Break is possible reasen why Fox ask him back. I have understand Point Break is official Fox movie and there even consider a sequel and look like there deside to make Speed insteed. Same actor and same composer. Some things remember me other later and earlier movies. One later movie is Die Another Day who is also Fox movie (with MGM). Waves looking filmt at same location and one other chacters look like on stunt surfer from DAD whyle it is not him. Another stunt remember me of simalar scene in Moonraker. Point Break is from same year / produced by directer as Terminator 2. Also Nolan possible get inspiration from this movie for The Dark Knight 17 years later.
For a moment i thought how Goldeneye have look like with Kathryn Bigelow as directer or Point Break have look liked with Jan De Bont or Martin Campbell.
Kathryn Bigelow direct Mi9 / Mi10 and Jeremy Renner return as new lead. There is a moment in new trailer where two guy's shaking hands and i wonder mabey one of them is Jeremy Renner.
Agreed, I recall prior to Ghost Protocol some suggested Renner was being brought in to take over from Tom... the rest is history.
You can tell the one in the black jacket isn't Renner as he has very recognisable fingers(!)
Assuming the leather jacket is Ethan.
The problem with anyone taking over from Tom is they are not just attempting to lead a film/series they are replacing one of Hollywood's greatest stuntmen.
MI films have many great elements though the biggest hook for me is Tom is doing most of this for real.
On a recent viewing of MI:RN when Huntley and Brandt arrive at the stately home to stop Ethan Hunt from intercepting the British Prime Minister you can see a silver Aston Martin DB6 in the background.
Obviously a nod to Bond, and also the same shooting location as SP at Blenheim Palace.
Can’t believe I’d never noticed it.
Good spot, I have not noticed that subtle reference before, I like the idea that that Bond and IMF inhabit the same universe.
But I also liked William Brandt played by Jeremy Renner and I think Mission: Impossible series lost a lot after abandoning his character.
