I absolutely loved it; at times I felt goosebumps.

As far as the technology used to create it, I take it for what it is and suspend my disbelief.

I can only give so much leniency. It’s the same reason I couldn’t buy into the awful Skywalker cameo in THE MANDALORIAN. That weird need by fandom to have the exact same actors replay their old roles with uncanny valley deepfakery. When I look at those f/x, I’m not seeing the characters. Kirk wouldn’t just wander around so silently, but he’s only doing so because the tech isn’t there to convincingly replicate his younger voice. So we just get awkward moments of characters just communicating through facial expressions.

765874 - Unification resonated with me because these characters have been part of my life for 50 years. recast a hundred times there will only be the originals for me. That crew that cast were something special, seeing some kind of closer to two off my favorite ever characters mean's a lot to me and to many, many others.

I haven't a clue what's going on though, I think you have to be pretty deep into the lore to know who's who in that.

@Fire_and_Ice_Returns I share this, I can't really explain it but for me and seemingly, so many fans, there is a genuine emotional connection between them and the original characters. Modern producers would pay millions to have this connection.

Knowing Bill never got the chance to say goodbye to his friend makes it all the more moving.

It's never been clear to me whether Nimoy just didnt want Bill to see him in failing health, or whether Nimoy had finally had enough of him after The Captains fiasco. As a romantic, I like to think it's the former.

It’s pretty evident there was a falling out that resulted in Nimoy cutting Shatner out of his life, which was why Shatner couldn’t attend the funeral. That’s another thing that makes that video feel weird, is the idea that Shatner is using this as his way of saying goodbye to someone he wasn’t able to ten years ago, through the characters. Except, that’s not Nimoy, that’s just a guy wearing facial prosthetics. It just reeks of Shatner’s egotism.

The Roddenberry Archive: Robin Curtis: Becoming Saavik

This certainly meant a great deal to Robin Curtis, great interview.
