I started watching Sugar, featuring Colin Farrell tonight, and early in the first episode, when John Sugar (Farrell) is in Japan, they very briefly cut to this street footage. The TV series cuts in several old clips from films and old footage (Sugar is a huge movie fan), and it's fun that they included this little detail.

In the Danish 1965 spoof Slå først Frede! (Strike First Freddy), we see prank items salesman turned spy, Frede Hansen, being equipped with, among other things, a white dinner jacket and a red carnation – just like James Bond in Goldfinger. And where we see Bond emerge from the water in a diving suit and seagull headgear in GF, later undressing into his white dinner jacket, Frede emerges from the sea in his dinner jacket – and no diving suit, in one of the scenes.

Speaking of birds, birds (or pigeons to be exact) are central to the plot in Slå først Frede!. It's a decent spy spoof actually, for those interested in checking it out.

It's very silly, but if you're into that kind of spy fun, it's worth watching! They even made a sequel, Slap af, Frede! (Relax Freddie), in 1966. I haven't been able to find that film though.

Three of the actors in this film also starred in another series of comedies, the Olsen-banden (the Olsen Gang) series, about a fictional criminal gang. Own versions (and even spinoffs) were made in Sweden (Jönssonligan) and Norway (Olsenbanden). I've only seen a few of the Norwegian ones of these myself.

NCIS repeats the other night, DiNozzo met a female agent who understood all his Bond references, so he went 'Skyfall: I can't believe they killed Judy Dench!' and they had to be stopped from nerding out about it! Guess those are pretty old repeats...

Michael Weatherly left the show years ago I think, so I guess so! I see they are making a spinoff now, with DiNozzo and Ziva, called NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Maybe there will be more Bond references in that show.

Another Bond reference, this time from the series 2 episode of The Saint, «Luella», where guest star David Hedison's character Bill Harvey, gets involved in a blackmail plot involving this Luella (played by The Ipcress File's Sue Lloyd).

Trying to save Bill's marriage, Simon Templar and Bill begin by driving to the place Bill was taken by Luella. Speaking to an older lady working for the estate agents the blackmailers are renting the place from, she is only happy to divulge information regarding the tenants when Simon whispers into her ear that he's working for MI5.

Later in the episode, when Simon has solved the case, we learn that he might have told this lady more than that he is working in intelligence (at the same time revealing that even The Saint himself can mistake MI5 for MI6…).

Watched the 1965 spy spoof Serenade für zwei Spione (Serenade for Two Spies) tonight. John Krim, alias 006 1/2, is sent to San Fransisco (since agent 007 is currently on another mission), tracking down an international gang of gun dealers that has stolen the prototype of a laser rifle from a German laboratory.

The film mentions James Bond, Sean Connery, and a few bars of «Goldfinger» is played when John Krim is being chased early in the film. The film isn't particularly good, but might be of interest to those particularly interested in 60's eurospy films. It's available on Youtube:

Last night (Tuesday, July 23) on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert:

"[Kamala Harris] became the presumptive nominee in 48 hours. To put that in perspective, it's been more than three years and we still don't have a new James Bond. By the way: Joe's available. Looks good in a tux."

Speaking of tux, yesterday, I watched the fourth episode of the third season of It Takes a Thief, "The Great Casino Caper", featuring Fred Astaire, and... Adolfo Celi, who channeled his Emilio Largo (without the eyepatch). He even had the same tux as in TB, and had a scene where he was shooting skeets, like in said movie. I do think it was deliberate, and not a coincidence.

Amusing to see a lot of people in the comments don't seem to know who it is.

A couple of Bondian items I've picked up at airshows: sticker from a squadron flying the Osprey and patch from a Phantom squadron (I don't know which one; I bought it from some Germans who seemed to be flogging bits and pieces they'd found at the back of a cupboard).

I'm guessing the Osprey referred to is this one:

Today, I was watching "The Minstrel's Shakedown", the fifth episode of the second season of the 1966 Batman series, and I jumped out of my couch. At the beginning of the episode, villain of the week the Minstrel caused chaos at the Gotham City Stock Exchange, threatening the traders with further and bigger chaos if they didn't pay for his protection. And he gave them instructions to wire the money to "Account 007, at the Broccoli Bank in Zurich, Switzerland".

If that isn't a reference, I don't know what is.

    Thank you!

Now I'm tempted to go on a quest to find all the 007 numbered aircraft and anything special the crew have done with them...

    So much for détente, comrade.

And MGM no longer means. What you think it means.
