SUPERMAN is the film that will get me back into the cinema, by the time I watch SUPERMAN next July it would be quite a while since I watched anything on the big screen.

SUPERMAN is the big event movie.

    Potential major spoilers
there is a rumor (which has been around for months) that who appears to be 'Ultra Man' is a Superman clone that becomes Bizarro, how much of what we have seen in the trailer is actually the real Superman, how long is Kal trapped in the glass cage?

    ---

The teaser has had over 250 million views in only two days which is a record already for not just DC but also a Warner Bros film.

    I like that...
...they apparently are giving Bizarro his time to shine on the big screen after being on Superman & Lois. However, i don't know about him being Ultraman if it ends up being true; like, the whole "Evil Superman" trope is starting to get a little tiring. To me, at least.

I thought it was done well in Smallville
Bizarro duping Lois can be very compelling. Edited: Lana was duped in Smallville, Lois is too smart to be fooled so probably unlikely with further thought.

    Superman 75th Anniversary Animated Short

I have been Watching some older Superman clips on YouTube, this is so good. The first and the best Superhero.

Superman is the cavalry (for superhero movies and cinema... possibly).

What’s infuriating is that as good as SUPERMAN 78 is, it really shouldn’t be the best Superman film.. There should have been a long line of even more compelling stories. Instead the Salkinds get bright ideas like turning III into a Richard Pryor story for reasons I’m not even sure cocaine can explain.

It would be like if the Bond franchise never had a film that was as good or better than DR. NO, and the third film gave a significant amount of screen time to Bill Cosby.

I agree, as I've said before, the Salkinds could have easily been Superman's equivalent of the Broccoli Family. But they made some poor decisions (akin to Harry Saltzman's selling of his Bond rights) before they even made Superman. Namely, not paying people seems to be a reoccurring criticism of theirs. They arguably just got lucky with Donner and his crew. There are a number of great ways and directions to take Superman. From a cinematic viewpoint, they've barely touched the surface. I always felt like Zack Snyder would be too polarizing to do Superman justice. He also deserves some blame for fumbling the Death of Superman storyline. So the pressure is on James Gunn and his crew for Superman now more than ever. If they fail, enjoy waiting around for another movie. Which will probably be an origin story, or have Lex and Zod as villains.

Superman was like Star Wars. It relied a lot on special effects. Even George Lucas let the series rest for 15 years.

Not really. Superman 3 and in particular 4 bombed financially and review wise. They to a degree had no choice but to let Superman rest. Christopher Reeve's accident didn't help either.

I know but the thing is, it wasn't surprising anymore.

I think the point is to disagree in any way possible.

Franchise fatigue was always going to happen. Special effects don't improve fast enough to avoid audience fatigue.

That’s incorrect. The simple explanation for why the films declined is that the movies got bad. That’s all. If III and IV were as good or even better than the first two films Reeve’s run would not have went out with a whimper.

No, they relied a lot on special effects. These movies are what they are. It's the same problem that the Jurassic Park movies have.

Your argument is that Superman has failed because of special effects. How does that even make sense?

  • Superman is the only film I’m really looking forward to the cinema in 2025. Maybe Captain America Brave new world as well.

I'm with you as well, mostly. CABNW I'm only interested in because of Harrison Ford. Anthony Mackie is a bit of a Marvel suck-up at times in his interviews. Superman will hopefully be noticed, social media has been buzzing positively about the trailer. It's unique how little we actually know about the movie. Supergirl will also start filming in a couple of weeks, as well.

Just today watched Man Of Steel for the first time since it came out. For some reason I felt like giving it a second chance. Yes, I did enjoy it more this time, but no, I'm still not a fan. Too drab, the film almost looks like it was in B&W. Too much death of civilians. Pa Kent being a doof was not cool. And back to work at the end as if Metropolis isn't going to need a decade of re-building not to mention months up front just to clear the streets of rubble & bodies...the actors were all great, the CGI was splendid, the action was furious. It was the writing.

That ending is so tone deaf. Right after Superman kills Zod and feels absolute regret and remorse for doing what he did, we shift gears towards a happy ending.

I haven’t been keeping a close eye on this thread so I don’t know if this has been mentioned.

For this incarnation of Superman, his rationale for wearing red tights is that he doesn’t want to scare children, so he’s wearing the tights to somewhat resemble a professional wrestler. It’s a theatrical choice to look less intimidating to kids.

I have to say that I’ve come to prefer the trunk less costumes, but I’ll go with that rationalization.

I have come to tolerate trunk-less costumes (without the essential yellow "S" on the back of the cape).....

I am one for tradition so pro trunks, Supes was based on the strongman image of that era it's good to see the trunks return.

I think the yellow \S/ ooks great in the new teaser on the back of the cape.
