Wasn't he not keen on Connery until his wife told him he'd be fine? Maybe it's just an urban legend. But if true, it would be another proof that what men consider manly and attractive and what women consider manly and attractive are two different things. Something I noticed after Craig's casting too.

Anyway, didn't Fleming want David Niven as Bond? That would have been another seemingly "safe" choice: established actor, a star even, a typical English gentleman, etc. But I think it would have been catastrophic to the franchise, that may not have gone beyond DN.

He may not have been too keen initially, but I don’t know how true the ‘balding Scottish lorry driver’ quote is. Didn’t know that story about his wife either (I’ve heard a version where it’s Cubby’s wife who finds Connery good looking so they decide to meet with him. It still plays into what we’ve been talking about as you said). Publicly at least I think Fleming was relatively supportive of Connery.

From what I understand Fleming suggested a few names for Bond early on (I think it was the likes of Richard Burton, James Mason and James Stewart). One of them might have been Niven, although I don’t know if he was his first choice - Niven was, after all, more of a light drama/comedic actor so it would have been an odd choice. And he was in his 50s so was probably too old anyway. Definitely agree, he wouldn’t have been the right choice and without a lead like Connery Bond wouldn’t have taken off as it did.

David Niven (who was mentioned in the novel YOLT by the way) as Bond would have made DN a somewhat darker, more serious Pink Panther. Without Peter Sellers.

Fassbender for one bond film please

Have you seen The Agency TV program ? Very entertaining. However, with regard to M Fassbender portraying Bond, it could work only if the story were about a mature Bond. Mr. Fassbender looks quite mature.

I always thought the guy with the bad teeth from Fleabag had a sort of look to him that might work if he tried: Jamie Demetriou (he has normal teeth in real life)

I know absolutely nothing about him, but he has a great voice; based on this interview I can see potential but have no Idea of how of an actor he is .

Like his sister, he's very naturally funny. Not sure I'd regard him as a potential Bond, but I guess odder things have happened.

Again i am fine with one film with Fassbender as bond and using elements of the Man with the golden gun and risico for the film

Also i am going to see what i call “closest thing to Bond we will get this year” Black Bag…

Heck Black Bag is likely the closest we will get to him being Bond (unless he is doing the voice for the new game)

Hard no for a one off Fassbender for me unfortunately. I don't think he's ever quite had the screen presence or charisma to lead a major film (he's pretty good in smaller, more character based pieces though and is generally fine in supporting roles, but something about him never quite worked as a distinctive leading man). Anyway, I think it's better that the next Bond be... well, James Bond and stick with the role for a while. EON don't need a lame duck Bond.

I'm not quite getting Bond from Demetriou either, but I agree that he actually has a good voice.

Nobody wants to spend money on a one-shot James Bond.

Fassbender is probably a better candidate than the next Bond but he is older. His prime has already passed.

I know I’ve suggested Theo James, but Jamie Demetriou is a little too Greek for Bond.
He’d order an Ouzo shaken not stirred over a Martini.
Though, to be fair if cast I’d certainly give him a go. As @mtm said he’s naturally funny.

Now I’m not endorsing him, but this photo is not very complimentary , he comes off better on film and in interviews.

He’s got a bit of an Adrian Paul look to him

Funny, I thought the same thing: he looks very Greek.

I get it, you're right, but the guy is clearly trolling, yet again. Tired of it.

Doesn't matter if they look Greek. As long as they have the zest.

So you're suggesting a married Bond, eh ? As indicated clearly by the photo in your post

Have to say that photo of AT is a great one to sell him as Bond.
Right age, look, he’s certainly right for the part.

You and me both Benny, you and me both. I say cheers to that and have a great weekend.

@mtm I'm not particularly sure, but he does wear it regularly. It seems quite small/classic at about 35mm, which is actually a great size.

@buddyoldchap that's a great choice of photo. His mature look is above the rest. Always wears stylish clothing and the guy's a dancer.

I think he would be a great choice, but time is ticking, and not in his favor.

I can’t deny that time is against AT.
However he does age well. He’s certainly not to old yet, and could conceivably be another Roger Moore, in he looks younger than he actually is.

*Gasp* guy in his 40s has some mild recession on his temples. At least he isn't jumping on the plane immediately to Turkey for a norwood 1. Good on him, a true man.

Thunderballs mentioned him previously in the Alien thread, but I don't think he's cropped up in this one: Archie Renaux, as seen in Alien Romulus seems a possible candidate.
He's got the right sort of look, seems tall and alpha-ish, handsome guy, 27 years old, British, good actor, believably tough in the film...

Jamie Bond. He resembles Cristiano Ronaldo, a no from me.
