Oh gosh, that has a potential to be awful :D
What a bizarre column. Connery disliked Barbara Broccoli, who apparently produced Octopussy, the Bond film which nearly ran the series aground. It's like a parallel world.
This article makes it sound like Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson were in charge for "Octopussy"? Or am I misreading the entire piece hahaha
That would make me ever sadder.
This piece is wrong on so many levels. Gavin was 1970-1971, not 1983. And NSNA was a good movie?
Methinks Bart is having a senior moment.
NSNA a good movie? I need to read that article now. Our Man Flint is a better Bond film than NSNA.
“We don’t have a plan yet on what the next theme is going to be,” he said. “We haven’t – nobody’s written the story yet. But we will take great care. It’s an amazing franchise that we care a lot about and that we expect to develop over a long period of time.”
When asked about AI in the creative industries, he added: “First of all, I don’t believe that AI is going to write a Bond movie any time soon.” He went on to say that Amazon are “incredibly honored to have the ability to help shepherd the Bond franchise for the next generation. And we have amazing filmmakers that we have hired over time at MGM Amazon Studios.”
What do they mean “anytime soon?” Does that imply the possibility of them attempting it in the future? 😦
That's actually pretty good. Without getting political we've seen how defence budgets have been seen as being increasingly important recently and I doubt that situation is changing in the next couple of years, so dusting off, or even starting the double 0s would be quite prescient.
It means it can't.
I can see that working for sure. It doesn’t even need to begin with M recruiting Bond but maybe a year or two after it’s happened. It’s a cool way of establishing that new Bond world and a good foundation for the relationship between new Bond/M.
Rather than having a rookie Bond join the 00 section, you could have an established Bond become the first 00 agent, with a newly-designated M starting up this new, slightly more free-thinking branch of SIS and Bond given new licence to do whatever he feels is necessary. So we get experienced Bond as folks want, but also we get a beginning to the story.
Tie the 00 section in with Fleming's approach to his war years, famously a bit rogue and coming up with crazy ideas. Make them outside of the MI6 norms, a department no one is too sure about and which seems to have less oversight than everyone else. Maybe M calls them the 00s because the 0s look like a pair of eyes and he doesn't want eyes on them, I don't know :D
You could actually start the story in a few ways: maybe Bond is a deep cover agent who's been living a long term role as a playboy on the riviera for some reason, mingling with oligarchs, and relishes the opportunity to be called back to London to help set up the 00 section, I don't know. Maybe he's been frustrated that he's been amongst all these bad guys, swigging martinis, but has had his hands tied and not been allowed to take any action. But a start to the story raises opportunities.
I must say if they got the band of Brosnan, Campbell and Arnold back together again, I would be in the theater on opening night.
Pierce is such a cool guy, credit to him he's aged like a fine wine, I'm glad he's doing well
Died choking on a diamond, sadly.
Gosh, he's changed.
Wow, what the hell did Pierce do? A pact with the Devil? Faust much? He looks better now than in recent years. Top form! As skinny and elegant as he was perhaps in 1999 and in TTCA. I’d be there front row. Actually, a new Thomas Crown film with him would also be grand. I miss seeing him in a true stylish piece of film. Man’s all charisma.
I recall reading that a second Thomas Crown Affair film, based on a remake of ANOTHER 60s smooth, cool heist movie - Topkapi - was planned. I'd say bring 'em all back, including Rene Russo in all her glory again...

Who is she?
