I was rewatching Tomorrow Never Dies the other day and I noticed something I've never seen before which I believe is a goof.

In the scene when Bond gets in the shootout at the printing press in Hamburg there's a scene where he leaps from one platform to the next and if you watch (or listen, rather-with headphones) carefully his PPK goes off midfall. I saw that once and was never able to unsee it.

You can see it at @0:35 here

Also I'm not sure if this counts as a goof but it's always bothered me how in Casino Royale, Bond receives the DB5 as a personal vehicle after winning it in a poker game but in Skyfall it's outfitted with machine guns and in SPECTRE, Q even quips 'I thought I said to bring it back in one piece, not to bring back one piece.' Why would he care if it's Bond's personal vehicle. It's so weird because in Skyfall, which is also directed by Sam Mendes, Bond even says 'The problem with company cars is that they have trackers', implying that the car is in fact, his. Also, who the hell was Bond going to, to get that vehicle serviced by if not Q Branch!? Maybe the old Q was super chill with 007 and pimped out his rides on the low. Maybe he was discovered and fired by M and that's why Ben Whishaw is 'your new Quartermaster'. I bet it was Andrew Garfield.

You can even see the muzzle flash here...

I have a couple if they havent been mentioned In Ohmss when Bond finds Tracy has checked out of her hotel room he is on the phone to the receptionist and next to him are some clothes or pyjamas and in a few seconds they have vanished and i think someone has mentioned this one in the battle scene at piz gloria Tracy is fighting Grunther and he has the upper hand and he cuts Tracy's hand on some glass and then in a few seconds after she defeats him the wound has gone.

DN when Mr Jones takes the hard right to avoid Leiter and Quarrel dust is seen flying all over. Seconds later then Leiter's car passes the dust has disappeared.

I would guess they were probably using a prop that has a flint at the end so as it produces an actual muzzle flash when the trigger is pulled, the stuntman accidentally squeezed the trigger, and luckily the foley artists spotted it so they could at least get the sound in.

I remember discussing this a long time ago on alt.fan.james-bond, and I apologize if anybody has already mentioned it (the search function wasn't really helpful). But here's one thing that has been puzzling me forever:

In DAF after about 9 minutes, Sir Donald explains the diamond production in South Africa, juxtaposed with film scenes from there that largely prove him wrong. He says, "The whole process from start to finish operates under an airtight security system. It’s an essential precaution, even though the industry prides itself on the loyalty and devotion of its workers."

Then he says a few more sentences about workers' health care etc. while you see the dentist Dr. Tynan at work. But about twenty seconds later, Sir Donald repeats exactly the same sentences quoted above. It even seems to be the same audio recording. Lazy editing or simply an error? I know it was both on my VHS tape and the DVD, and I would expect it to be on Blu-ray as well.

Any of you know more about the cause of this?

This has always REALLY bothered me, one of the early signs in DAF (along with "CAI...CAI...CAIRO!" and the absolutely sabotaged delivery of "Bond, James Bond" in the PTS) that you're about to watch a tremendous catastrophe of filmmaking. That amount of dialogue is about half of a page in a screenplay. HOW did NO ONE spot this? It's on the same bloody page!

I thought I answered this question at the time: There is no gun in his hand - Bond puts the PPK in his jacket before he jumps. That is a beam of sunlight shining on his hand.

Have a look at these screenshots in sequence:

The AVTAK police were real dummies.

An early prototype of an autonomous car. The SF police thought it would scare other folks to see no drivers so they had these lifelike dummies installed. LOL!

My favourite bit in that scene is before the car gets crushed by the bridge you can see the police chief arrives in it (the guy with the black 'tache who we've been watching pulling faces through the whole thing), he gets out and stands next to the car for a sec, only when you look at him you can see it's simply someone else wearing his moustache. He looks nothing like him and yet he stares full face at the camera for quite a long time.

Are you watching on your phone or on a big screen? Because it's plainly a different guy.

Bear in mind the fella driving the car performs a stunt when he slides the car into shot. He's a stunt driver.

Good spot, but now I'm confused if it's him or not.

There’s a lot of really bad editing done in this movie. Feels like a lot was due to lack of coverage, but you’d hire a good editor to hide the seams. Normally with that police double you’d cut away the moment the door opens, not actually linger on the shot.

I have to wonder if Cubby just kept bringing back Glen because he was cheaper than hiring someone outside of Eon. There’s a real sense of “this will do” attitude in the 80s Bond films.

Yeah it's quite funny: there's the shot of the stunt guy getting out alone of his car, then it cuts to a reverse shot of the car where there's another guy getting out of the passenger side who just wasn't there in the previous shot. It's really ragged.
You're right though: I reckon the idea for that shot may have been that the stunt driver paused after getting out of the car, there would be an insert close-up of the actor looking up and taking in the scene, then it might cut back to the double in long shot running towards the action. Instead, as you say, they just held the shot when they shouldn't have. Notice all the double does is pause: he doesn't actually react- it's like he's been told to hold it there for a beat so they can cut another shot in.

Mind you, I only just got the gag where Bond kicks the Stetsons off the heads of those two guys in the convertible car: the 'joke' is that they're both bald under their hats. Weak old sauce there.

I just rewatched the scene via 4K copy on iTunes and it’s absolutely embarrassing how badly done that chase is and how all the comedic gags are out of place.

There’s one moment on the bridge where one of the cops is overacting flailing around getting caught on the antenna of the police car and I’m thinking “was that supposed to be funny??” This is all well after Bond and Stacey escaped.

It’s clearly John Glen and his affinity for Keystone Kops shenanigans but my god this movie is just tonally all over the place. Mendes’ films get a lot of flack for that, but I think John Glen was always the worst offender.

I unashamedly love AVTAK, but that chase is probably its lowest point (maybe the mansion 'fight'). It does feel a bit out of ideas and just with lots of slightly naff gags in there in to pad it out.

As far as editing goes this is probably the worst. It’s when the goon punches the box and there’s a very bad jump cut of boxes falls on him. Then of course the awkward cut to the guy clearly laying himself down on the treadmill when the goon is supposed to be unconscious.

Yeah I love it but the action in AVTAK has some issues.
