  • If i remember correctly, another way to die was released earlier than it was supposed to because coke zero used the tune in their advert, Jack White wasn't happy about this so they released the song soon after.

So maybe this is normal, does anyone remember how close the other ones wer to the release of the film?
  • or right. Im not sure about the other films.

In terms of announcements, YKMN and AWTD's singers were announced in July, however, Madonna being announced as singer for DAD was announced as early as March, as I recall!

DAD was then released in October, YKMN was 'officially' released in November (amid many leaks) and AWTD in September in US and October in the UK.

I'll leave you to work the rest out!

So the song is all but confirmed for the 5th. Great work @Gareth00789.

No, just what 90% of these posts are, good natured speculation.

  • James Bond theme intros have been abysmal in recent years. If this Adele kid gets the nod I fear it may continue. Look at Casino Royale, that was quite brilliant, a most fantastic effort from Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, but if we look around that, horror efforts from Ciccone, Keys and White and what could be waiting in store, Adele. I feel quite apprehensive. And then there's talk that Bassey could make a return or been involved? Quite nauseating!

Yes and I, like others, now guess that will be on the 5th. James Bond Day and 50 years to the day since Dr. No was released.

I'm thinking they'll set Bond 24 in stone too, by simply confirming they're going ahead with it.

Keep in mind this is The Sun, but...

BOND bosses are being more secretive than MI6 over who will sing over the closing credits of the latest 007 flick Skyfall.
But Adele is definitely the front-runner for the gig. She visited Abbey Road studios earlier this month, where the soundtrack is being put together.
She first hinted that she’d been offered the 007 spot in a chat with Jonathan Ross last year.
Soon after that Adele started preliminary sessions with producer Paul Epworth.
Her visit to the historic Abbey Road facilities suggests she’s been recording with Thomas Newman, the man director Sam Mendes has hired to take charge of the Bond music.
Thomas, who has worked on movies including The Shawshank Redemption and Wall-E, has been holed up at the London studios all month working on the score for the film, which hits cinemas next month.
It will be interesting to see what he and Adele come up with.

    'Closing credits'?
So what about the opening titles then? Bassey? An instrumental? Muse? Or is this just an indication of the quality journalism we have come to expect from such a revered organ?

I mentioned an instrumental fir the opening credits and vocals for the clowing credits in an earlier post but as I said before I'm not sure if that'll happen. I just hope the singer really is working with Newman because I love how CR like many of the older classic Bond movies had the title music incorporated into the score and that's precisely what SF needs to do.

I wasnt told the 5th, just that he doubts it will be released this month,

So it seems more than likely that the Adele song is co-authored by Mr. Epworth just like their “Rolling in the Deep” effort.

I think if you put 2 and 2 together, @Gareth00789, you come up with Bond Day for the release of the song.
  • yeah, it would be a good day to announce it

It looks like Adel doing the theme song for Skyfall is more likley now. Check this out. She has been spotted at the Abbey Road studios, where the soundtrack is being recorded.http://www.gigwise.com/news/76196/heavily-pregnant-adele-visits-bond-soundtrack-recording-studio

I wouldn't take what The Sun means seriously, the journalist who wrote that probably meant opening titles, but just said closing credits because that's where most theme songs to films end up going.

@Gareth00789, please avoid double/triple posting. You can say everything in one single post instead. Thank you.
  • If it is Adele, I'm heartened that it will be over the closing credits. A good excuse to leave as soon as the film finishes. Looks like we may well get a Thomas Newman instrumental over the opening titles. Excellent!

From the same source - The Sun. Was it the Sun or Mirror that said that Sean Connery will be appearing in DAD as Bond's father and the climax will take place on the statue of liberty?

Not to say I don't believe The Sun's report, but lets face it, she could be doing something for these bonus tracks on her new album.

I'm just not accepting anything until it's official

    (Though I still think it'll be Adele ;) )

Don't listen to this 'Closing Credits' crap started by The Sun. Its the result of shoddy journalism!

The Sun got EON buying the VB bettles up, correct. Who knows, they may have actually seen something.

  • I'm not for one minute saying its not Adele as I think everything is hush hush waiting for something (probably the 5th as said), just be aware that in the UK, the sun does have a reputation on a par with the national enquirer and does tend to put a lot of crap in the papers in order to sell.

Well regarding a collaboration with Mr. Newman: I prepped a wiki article about the song yesterday (to be the first ;-). So I went through all the sources and snippets we got to this time. The confirmation of the shooting of the PTS was less than a week away from Thomas Newman saying he's only toying with some ideas. You can easily conclude that the theme has been ready before Newman started to seriously compose. So it's not safe to say it is a collaboration or will be integrated into the score (then there would be some first ideas to build a score around). But you can surely say that Newman is/was in the position to work the cues of the theme into the score.

And regarding the rumors of Muse doing it: There will be a complete preview of the album in a week in Cologne. So it's almost sure that they don't have a song they hold back!

All of the better (IMO) soundtracks to the films all had cues worked to either the theme tune, or in TB/TND cases, the alternate/rejected themes. Was one of the things I thought QoS lacked (apart from a couple minor cues).

Well, there were no cues in Another Way to Die to really work them in :-) The most impressive part of the song was the rhythm and its changes. And IMO Arnold did his best with the two tone melody. But I think now it's safe to say there's more melody around this time:

I agree it's NOT the closing credits; whoever wrote that can't tell Lulu from Shirley Bassey. ;) But even the tabloids usually build on a kernel of truth; here it's Adele visiting Abbey Road, the kind of breaking news you'd expect to hear from the paparazzi. In context, especially with Newman there, that's a HUGE clue.
  • my money is on muse. i think adele is just a red herring constructed by the production team to keep the song a secret.

If it was Arnold (or Craig) making the decision it might be Muse, but it's Mendes & Newman's call instead. Adele is a better fit for Skyfall's intended "classic Bond" direction.

Emeli Sandé would be my second choice, but only if Adele wanted too much money or had her baby before she could record it; that's unlikely now.

Well, I think it is highly unlikely that they will have a Bond song up their sleeves when their perfectly timed album does not include one. And as I said: the album will be previewed in a week. And all that hesitating regarding the confirmation would be senseless when the Broccolis would not do it on Bond Day.
