Bad move EON. Casino Royale gets a matching menu but Quantum Of Solace didn't? Why, I'll never know.

Because the company producing the boxsets are lazy.

Yeah, the only reason they aren't re-using the single disc Blu-Ray of CR is because we're getting the, well, I suppose you can call it, 'uncut' version of the film, so they had to re-do the disc. To be honest, I'm surprised we're even getting that...

But on the price issue, I still think we're getting a good deal...

Let's be honest, 100€ (or £90, or whatever the US price is) would be a great deal for 22 films on Blu-ray without any special features. EON is offering plenty of special features at the same price. Sure, we've seen almost all of them before. But think of the price and what you're paying it for.

The Indiana Jones Blu-ray box set costs £60, £30 less than BOND 50, and only has four films! Sure, it comes with photos, maps and other cool stuff, but it's four movies. You're not paying for the films, you're paying for the cool extra stuff.

With BOND 50 it's another story. You're paying for twenty three films. And a lot of extras, which you may have seen before.

It's a fair deal if you ask me.

The Indiana Jones films are not celebrating 50 years and are a rip off.
Most of us have bought the vhs, dvd, bluray versions already so the new boxset deserves to be value for money and something special for the fans.
And the bond fans want more extra stuff with the 50th anniversary boxset.
How much extra would it cost them to include posters ,stickers or other stuff?
After all it's suppose to be a huge celebration.

Stickers? Really? That's the way to celebrate Bond's 50th? People here would get mad if they had stickers in the box set. And they'd be right.

BOND 50 is just a part of the celebration. It's about the films themselves, offered for the first time in the best quality available. Not photos or other stuff. There are other things celebrating the anniversary too, like The James Bond Archives, Bond On Bond, James Bond: 50 Years of Movie Posters, the Factory Entertainment replicas, etc. And many events too, for example the Bond In Motion and Designing 007 exhibitions.

If they had filled the box set with prop replicas, film cells and other memorabilia, it would cost more than £300 (to say the very least). Then people would complain about it being too expensive. "Why couldn't they also make one version without the extra stuff, so that every Bond fan can enjoy the films on Blu-Ray without paying a fortune?" would be everyone's complaint.

You're paying £90 for twenty three movies on Blu-ray and some previously seen special features. A great deal, in my opinion. If you already have the DVDs and don't want it, don't buy it.

Maybe have a cheap version (the current set) and another version which costs a bit extra and is a limited edition version with extra stuff, to please everyone.

  • Does anyone know what's going on with Never Say Never Again? Is the Blu-Ray version still being distributed? I checked Amazon but it was only available at independent retailers for insane, astronomically high prices (new), which usually is a sign that its out of print.

I was able to the original Casino Royale on Blu-Ray though.

Its on Amazon my friend, same design but dvds sit in one big plastic case. I would post a link but im looking at it on amazon app. Oh its also not out until 2nd October. All single discs as per individual releases.

So it isn't with the books like for the Blu Ray edition?

Nope, they given blu ray their ( ahem) 'full' attention. Dvd gets a very lacklustre release.
There is a full pic of it on Amazon, the Bond 50 design is the same one the front with a silver border and inside as I say is a rather cheap looking black pack with all the films

22 blu-ray films for £80-ish. I'm not complaining. Just a little miffed that I pre-ordered as soon as I knew about this. Expected Amazon to dispatch on the 21st for 24th delivery, and yet (having spend literally £1,000s with them) mine is not even being dispatched till Monday 24th, delivery Wednesday (if I'm lucky), bit of a let down. Was hoping to see OHMSS in high-def Monday night. Bummer.

I'm sure it will get a home format release by the blu ray/dvd release of SF.

F*ck that. Why should I have to shell out money for a cinema ticket or DVD/BR just because I'm not in America? I might try and find it somewhere on the internet but I'm not giving EON a penny.

I noticed this potential problem last week. Amazon had posted under the box set title "for release day delivery - select one day delivery at checkout" I altered my first class option and mine is due tomorrow - I understand your frustration though. Especially when there are pics all over the place of boxes already received. :-(

I'll hold you to that, if you get to see it and it's very good and they include some tasty extras I've no doubt you'll be parting with your money for it.

I'm nowhere the obsessive about the series I used to be but when EON gets released on Blu ray unless it's utter rubbish I will be buying it and you and others here who are claiming you won't will be as well.

    Well I won't, and you shouldn't either.

I'm sad about not buying it because it looks good. The poster looks great and I'm sure it'll be really intresting, but EON have well and truly screwed all of us outside of the US over.

Well for all those of you saying that we should be happy with what we're getting you are speaking utter tosh.

First point - yes for 22 films on bluray then the set is exceptional value. But thats about all I can say that is positive.

Basically what this set is is the Tesco value option. Totally stripped down to the basics (CR actually losing extras, QOS still as pathetic a release as 4 years ago).

Now I would have absolutely no problem with that if it was the 37th or the 42nd anniversarys but this is supposed to be celebreating half a f**king century. The longest running flim series ever FFS!!!!

FYI this is how other, lesser franchises with no particular anniversary to push do box sets:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Potter-Wizards-Collection-Blu-ray-Region/dp/B007N0IJGC/ref=sr_1_19?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1348395182&sr=1-19

31 discs for christs sake!!! And theres only 8 films! Not to mention all the other stuff.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prometheus-Alien-Evolution-Box-Blu-ray/dp/B0091AUVRM/ref=sr_1_30?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1348395910&sr=1-30

Even crap like Fast and the Furious gets some imagination expended on it:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fast-Furious-1-5-Limited-Collectors/dp/B0053PTFDK/ref=sr_1_14?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1348395804&sr=1-14

And we've already discussed the Avengers and Indy ones. And incidentally for the people who said the Indy one is overpriced (which I suppose it is) there is a cheaper version of just the films available. The key point is you get the choice how much you want to spend. There are similarly vanilla versions of Harry Potter as well for tightwads.

I'm as scabby as the next man when it comes to trying to save money but for this I was well prepared to shell out for the super deluxe, collectors, ultimate mega edition. I've never bought a Bond box set before as I always had the films and knew that 2 years later the set would be obsolete. But as it was going to be so special this year I was ready to make an exception. But EON have firmly slammed the door shut on those dreams and hopes :((

Its the disappointment that rankles so much Babs and MGW - cant you understand that?

Maybe I'll just have to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Indy in style and forget its Bonds 50th (not too difficult given EONs moribund plans).

Yeah I'm sorry EON. My apologies, because despite being running the Bond industry with all the flexibility of the North Korean government you have absoultely zero say on such matters.

Precisely my point. Why not bundle up the Bond archives book (practically the only thing worth buying for the 50th it appears) with the Bluray set. Or do a deal with Corgi where you have the box set, a car for each actor and maybe the poster for each actors first film? Anything.

Can anyone remember the VHS OHMSS box set from the 90s? Sumptuous - but I think Graham Rye was behind a lot of that and EON didnt have to make any effort. There were also GE and TND box sets in a similar vein which were all better than this piss poor effort.

I am still looking forward to receiving this. I think we have to acknowledge that sadly the ball has been dropped on this but when you think its not just EON but Sony MGM Fox too. Getting them all round the table for a cogent effort is asking far too much it seems. Lazy. Cant wait for OHMSS Which I have heard really packs a punch. :-)

Wizard CR is getting the full treatment with all the extras I spotted this on Blu ray.com and also the uncut version never seen on these shores before.

QOS is the same version but everything else is all that is on the UE's.

That's exactly why they're filling the box sets with too much extra stuff. Because they're inferior films.

Again, BOND 50 is all about the films. Not about cool bonus stuff. They're selling that separately. Why is it such a big deal? You want a cool Bond prop replica? Get one from Factory Entertainment. Why should it be given with the Blu-Ray box set?

Bad move EON. Casino Royale gets a matching menu but Quantum Of Solace didn't? Why, I'll never know.
You mean CR's menu now matches the other UE edition menus, but not QoS?

That CR not only not yusing the old menu structure but i see also on that dvdbeaver page there skip ''Bond Girls Are Forever''. Before i expect there go to yuse the first disc from 2008 edition with commentary and picture and picture but no other bonus material, but there take 2007 edition and ript with removing that feature and promotion trailers. I think people should make a bigger problem about that then the QOS menu who atleast yusing the old disc.

Snigle 2007 disc have 3 features, Cornell and promotion trailers. If there have deside to yuse the first disc from the 2 disc CE from 2008 you have the commentary and picture in picture, but missing ththings from the 2007 edition. Now you miss the commentary and picture and picture.

Why there also remove the Bond Girls Are Forever feature, mabey there audio problems:

I missing a bit more information about the audio. The single 2007 edition BD having a DD 5.1 448 track, the first disc first of the 2 CE 2008 edition have Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track (means 640 i think.). The first disc of the 2 CE 2007 dvd have a 448 track and first disc from the Dutch 3 disc CE 2008 dvd a 384 track.

So the quistion be what audio track this new CR disc have ?. Atleast with removing the Bond Girls Are Forever you expect atleast again a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track. Sony earlier have some troubles with Extented cut of The Davincie code (174 minutes + 39 minutes feature. ) who yusing a DD 5.1 448 track in English and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track in France. CR be 144 minutes + 56 minutes of bonus material. 13 minutes less of total time. Possible the Dutch/Uk version of CR having English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and France DD 5.1 and France version a France Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and English DD 5.1.

I am still yet to watch the A view to a kill blu-ray. I watched GE and DR and OHMSS they all look great, EON has put more effort into the films then the box and memus etc.

It was well worth the money...just for the picture quality.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info, @Kananga!
  • My set was just sent so it should be in Australia by next Monday, but no. Thanks to amazon UK my set is now scheduled to arrive on the 18th of October. That is three weeks more than they said and 15 days more than what they say in there standard Australian shipping estimates. I really hope something went wrong in their computer because if i knew this would happen i would have bought it form Australia and had it this Monday. Well done amazon, well done X(

What exactly were the issues with GoldenEye? I know the original release was cut, and later re-instated in the UE, but what's this cropping issue? Curious.
  • You can see the how the edges had been cut off here.
