As we are sinking deeper and deeper into the enormous SKYFALL craze, I believe it would be interesting to see where we stand.

The best film starring Craig yet.

Three really is the magic number.

For now I'd say it shares the first place with Casino Royale.

Despite being full of great stuff, I think Casino Royale is ultimately the most satisfying story. I came away from Skyfall rather disappointed, actually. :(

Joint first with CR for me although if pushed to choose? CR would just edge it for me.

Of course it's the best of the three. I can't believe how they rebooted the series again right under our noses to match DC's age; the old dog indeed has new tricks.

Do I watch it again or wait for the inevitable super duper Mendes cut next year at the flicks? I'm going to wait, my memory of a fab Bond expereince must not be muddied with plot picking on a second view.

I to was a little bit disappointed with Skyfall. I've never been a Dench fan so for the story to be around her was just mad, Mendes missed a trick he should of killed her off at the start. I for one am glad she's gone and the new M will be fab. Bardems villain was weak to. I loved Craigs journey in this film from being on top form at the start to drunk and fighting back.. he is a great Bond, loved Q and all the nods to past Bonds, the step over the Dragon just as Moore did with the crocs and the scare on Craigs back just like Seans, so lots to love about this film but for me just a bit frustrating that I didn't love it all. CR is still his best Film

I need to see it a few more times, but I think CR just edges it. But way better than QoS - this one's got a plot!
  • I saw it at BFI IMAX on Saturday and I saw it again today with my Mrs (I'm taking my kids at the weekend LoL!) and I thought it was brilliant. As 007 fans, we've all been monitoring the evolution of SKYFALL since November last year so whilst there were still surprises (apart from Naomie Harris as Moneypenny- even when they denied it I was still convinced she would be), we pretty much knew the story and where all the scenes would be set and if you (like me) can't help but look at every on-set pic and read every piece of information on how the production is progressing- you are always going to be in danger of being a little underwhelmed once you see the movie. This was not the case for me though- I loved it! Was it as good as Casino Royale? I'm not so sure but I get the feeling that I may well end up liking it more than CR once it comes out on DVD.

PS- Did someone REALLY say that Javier Bardem's villain was "weak"??? WTF?

and who was pretty much the first (maybe even the first on these forums) to call Ralph Fiennes as becoming the new 'M' and not Blofeld or some other villain? - dats right!!! ME!.. lol..

I find it hard to compare the 3 Craig films. Each of them is unique and very different from one to another. Each of them brought new elements and proposed new approaches on Bond. CR and Skyfall are both masterpieces, but I can't draw any comparison between the 2.

So far it seems a vast majority (60 %) of our forum has selected SF as the best of Craig's three. Interesting.
  • I too was a little disappointed with SF but it is still streets ahead of QOS, CR is still Craigs best so far.

Liked it. Loved it. But it didn't feel like a Bond film to me. CR did.

AND CAN WE PLEASE PUT THE FRIGGING GUNBARREL BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM !

(Ahem) Sorry for the shouty text but I do like a good gunbarrel, gets me right in the mood :)

I could understand having it at the end of QoS, because this was supposed to represent the proper rebirth of Bond (as in, he's now the "real thing") but why put it on the end here as well? I mean, it makes more sense having it at the end of this one but they've pulled that trick once, did they really need to do it again?

Having said it didn' feel like a Bond film, it's certainly up there with CR, OHMSS, LTK and FRWL. But now I have a contradiction in my head - how can it be up there with those films if it doesn't feel like a Bond film?

Oh dear, think I will have to see it again. And then probably again.....and again :)

    1. Skyfall
    2. CR
    3. QOS

And how did SF not feel like a Bondmovie? We have all the classic characters back. Please don't tell me it's only because of the GB at the end...
  • Having the gunbarrel at the end doesnt make the movie feel less of a bond film, I just dont understand the reason for not having it at the beginning. It's like watching star wars without the scrolling text its an icon of cinema and should be at the beginning

No, I just like the GB at the beginning. Like I said, it gets me in the mood.

Why didn't it feel like a Bond film? No idea. If it was a bad film, I could probably give you a list. But it was a bloody good film. So I have nothing to point to, other than how it struck me at point of viewing.

Which doesn't even make sense in MY head, so I don't expect anyone else to get it.

But it does mean I'm going to have to watch it several more times. Damn.

And, to be fair, we only get the classic characters back at the end of the film.

i have seen it twice so far and it was better the second time although loved it the first time as well. i understand the comment about it not feeling like a bond film as i came away after the 1st time and said that it could be any action movie with a diffirent lead.
however go and see it twice and the second time it had a total feel of a bond film and i loved it more. i think a third time and it will equal CR for me and will stand the test of time as a stand alone bond film. i compared it to CR not QOS as although some good bits QOS was a poor follow up to CR, writers strike or not.

like sean in GF, DC seemed more comftable in this than he did in the previous 2 films and i feel we have possibly one of the best bond villians of all time in SF.

loved the locations and especially the way london was shot. and again for only the second time in 23 films more rain. it was gritty well written well paced annd very well acted.

going again on thursday for 3rd veiwing

In my personal opinion, placing the GB at the end is not a reason to be let down or dislike a Bondfilm.

    But to each his/her own.

We had M, albeit a woman. I'm glad that we have the classic office and Fiennes, but I never understood the "hatred" Dench got.

Q appears a good time before the end.

So again, I don't see how this is such a big deal.

Indeed, especially since SF has a bloody good reason to put it near the end of the film AND because I think the film has the ten most amazing opening seconds of any Bond film!
  • I didn't see any need to have it at the end, we had it at the end of QOS as that was supposed to signify bond becoming the agent we all know SF is supposed to be set many years after QOS and also as I was lead to believe supposedly after all the other Bond movies. Also I agree with dimi that SF has an awesome pts but the gunbarrel would not have in anyway interfered with that.

At the risk of asking silly questions :P - why doesn't the poll add up to 100%? Whether everyone votes or not, shouldn't it still add up to 100?

I don't think SF has a good reason to put it at the end, Mendes said it was because it didn't work at the beginning. I just cant see the gunbarreln ruining the opening shot, for me the gunbarrel would have helped me in the beginning. It would, like 7777 said, get me in the mood. The opening shot didnt do it for me... it wasn't that amazing.

I had expected a classic Bond movie, which I felt SF wasn't. Still a great movie, but I felt unsure about it when I left the cinema. The characters were classic Bond (with a capital B, as Craig put it) but the movie itself was very special. I think it'll be a grower for me, a la OHMSS.

I voted for "2nd best after Casino Royale". I have a good feeling about Skyfall; the more I think about it, the better it seemed, so these are provisional rankings...

Interesting to see how our American friends will vote once they've seen the film. This could become a very exciting thread for sure. ;-)

Me too...I have got years to live with it though, and it may well rise.

Love it. CR is still my Danny fave, though. Let down by the poor score. Can't wait to see it again.
