I don't remember anyone attacking DC because of his clothes when CR was coming out. His hair and his looks yeah, but not his clothes.
We're 10 years after Brosnans tenure ended and people still call him fat. It's been 23 years since LTK but people still say Dalton had no charm or was ugly. People still call Moore old, etc.
Time has passed, it's not going to change people's opinions.

Does anyone here really take Getafix that seriously....?
I'm not talking about who he hates, I'm talking about his criticism which doesn't make much sense.
Dear God...
But while the word love can have different levels hate is absolute and so it's a very strong word to use.
I wanna bet....if you count the words 'hate' and 'love' in this topic, the word 'hate' will prevail.
There's not shame in saying we lost a step.
Craig's suits in QoS and SF look great because they're tailored extremely well to suit his body size and shape and because Craig's in great shape, he wears the suit as opposed to the suit wearing him. I hope Tom Ford can continue his great work for at least the remainder if Craig's tenure and I hope that Jany Temime returns as costume designer.
Lol in Sean Connery's case he actually did, well a suit anyway.
I asked the opinion of a tailor and he thought the suits were extremely well cut and fitted Craig perfectly! :-B
This exact same thing happened to me! My significant other left the film saying "this has got to be his final film". I was like.. "uh.. no, he actually signed up for at least two more". He literally couldn't believe it. He said that Craig looks like he's 50 and was equally surprised to know he is really only 44. Also, just the way the character is handled in this entry, he seemed to be on very shaky grounds physically so it added to the impression of an agent at the end of his tenure.
Just as quickie, although I enjoyed Skyfall, it is by no means a perfect movie (does such a thing exist?). Both my significant other and myself agreed on an 8/10 (although his first impression upon exiting was a 6/10). He had a big problem with the "lack" of Bond girl. Obviously Severine was there, but he felt she was merely a flash in the pan. He seemed to miss the grander "Bond-girl moments" with the lengthier, more charming seduction and the whole protecting the girl through portions of the film. I don't think he appreciated being saddled with M as a Bond girl for this one.
I agreed with him to a certain extent, but my main complaint related to the third act. I won't go into an elaborate explanation but something about it just didn't quite add up for me.
I liked the film very much, it was enjoyable. Not sure I loved it, it certainly didn't debunk my pre-existing top 5.
By the way, I am incresingly disturbed by the hordes of angered fanboys attacking the few negative reviewers on RT. Whatever happened to freedom of speech. Do people really expect everybody to wax lyrical about a movie? Some people will have a more critical opinion and as long as said opinion is coherently stated, then why not respect it?
There is a King Canute quality to Getafix.
Having taken a peek at the Guardian website to see what they're all saying over there I'm reassured to find that I'm not the only one who thinks SF was a major disappointment. Infact on Comment is Free, that seems to be the prevailing view. Was worried there for a bit that I was in a minority of one, but it seems there are plenty of people out there who were thoroughly underwhelmed by SF.
I'm sure it will all settle down on here after a month or two as well. Unlike OHMSS, LTK and QoS, I don't think SF is a film where the reputation is going to improve over time. It's gonna be a sinker. Overhyped on release and then sinking to the mid/lower end of the table over time.
You didn't like it that is fine but please don't make out we are all deluded because we thoroughly enjoyed it, you were disappointed we certainly weren't and judging by the box office haul you are in the minority.
It is really desperate stuff, you have to feel sorry for him I guess. Especially when he is clambering to The Guardian for reassurance, as if that paper is suddenly the Holy Grail of truth for James Bond.
I think that deep inside he "knows" he's right and the majority is wrong and so he is searching high and low for other who share his opinion. Fair enough, if it makes him happy.
Concerning Craig looking old in the film, he is supposed to look old when he comes back from the dead, by the end he's looking great, I would say better than in CR. I usually look up to the old fans (originals) when it comes to certain matters, my mother (Bond-fan for +50 years and counting) was very shocked the other day when she called me because she had heard from Craig in an interview that his contract was for "just" another 2 films. In her own words, Connery was younger but looked a lot older when he left the role.
By the way @Regan you say SF didn't debunk your pre-existing top 5 but I remember about a week ago you wrote that you still had a few Bond films you hadn't watched. I don't mean to offend but have you watched them all already?
Opening credits superb.Plenty of believable action, but character driven.
All the leads brought something to the party, with the exception of Moneypenny, she didn't do it for me.
Really enjoyed the second half, Bond in Britain.
Music lacked Arnold's quality, except the first part of the closing titles.
Have totally stayed away from any reviews,it came as a total shock when M died.
Hope Mendes is back for the next one
