    It would have to be From Russia With Love and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Both cracking films.

    Maybe Goldfinger....maybe. If 'Raiders' could do it, GF may have had a chance.

    OHMSS I'm iffy on. No doubt it's a great Bond film, but the glaring technical issues and George's occasional woodenness might hold it back a bit.

    I like many other Bond films, but I'll be the first to admit they are not Oscar worthy. (For example TLD - great Bond film, but hardly Oscar material)

    To ME, a movie is Oscar-worthy if it's a movie you can come to cold, seeing it as a stand alone film, not dependent on knowledge of the source material or previous instalments in a series of movies to fully appreciate it. From that POV, I couldn't see OHMSS getting an Oscar. DN, FRWL, even TB, possibly even one or two of Craig's...

    I feel that if someone saw Skyfall without having a familiarity with the series they would miss out on some of the best of what it has to offer. You have to understand the long history of Bond on screen to fully appreciate the Tennyson scene and Bond's motive for why he still continues to fight for M and England.

    Still don't believe On Her Majestys' warrants an oscar award or even nomination

    Once again, only From Russia With Love, really stands out above all else, it's Bond at his supreme best. But we have moved on so much from the early days that many people would indeed consider Royale and Skyfall as worthy of inclusion, but I can't quite go so far as to say that. Both very good Bond releases, but worthy of an Oscar ? - No, I don't think they're quite that level

    I still maintain that DN is the unpolished gem in the franchise, the equal to FRWL.

    No you're right. Dr No is almost as good as Russia, but just that little bit short of an Oscar nomination. Hidden gems could well be Octopussy or The Spy Who Loved Me for example, even though I have berated the former something awful

    You can't blame Weissmuller for being Tarzan, you can only blame the relevant people for including it in the first place. Probably the most embarrassing thing ever seen in James Bond up to that time. I don't know what they were thinking

    Yes but Moore never got up to such nonsense at one time in his career. It was only really at the time of Moonraker and thereafter that things really went into absurdities or degenerated into ridiculous humor. Pity really, in retrospect

    and by that, Live and Let Die is my favorite. No nonsense Bond, and it had Jane Seymour above all else. If Moore had remained serious more often, he could of been my number three best ever Bond behind Dalton and Connery, but some of those nonsense moments, and adolescent humor, really did him no favors by the very end, but even so, Moonraker, for all that it involves, is actually at around #6 in the whole franchise for me. Silly Bond, but what a great release

    I'd say FRWL but it would be against Lawrence of Arabia in '63 which is a stunning piece of work and Lean at his best.

    But '64 was a poor year for Oscar films and Goldfinger could have at least squeaked a nomination and Frobe could easily have won a best supporting actor that year.

    Casino Royale should really have earned a best picture nomination in 2006 - especially seeing ordinary fare like The Queen got one. And CR could have won if it wasn't Scorsese's long overdue victory.

    The oscar's are fixed and bond films will never get one

    I'd say that SF is probably the best "film" in the series (by that I mean as a film and not just as a Bond film) so it would be most likely to be considered. After that I'd probably say FRWL and then CR.

    Regardless of what your personal preference is regarding the style of Bond films you like the acting alone in SF (and not just from the leads) is far and away much above any of the other films. Then you have some amazing cinematography, a story with lots of depth of character and mirroring of them and plot points (also some contrasting for added effect as well), some nice ties in to art and poetry, and some sure-footed direction.
