Hahaha! That was pretty great, @Quantum07! Nice way to sum it up, haha!
Also, PTS/PCS = Pre Title Sequence/Pre Credit Sequence
I don't have a problem with anyone using abbreviations, the forum suggests to use it, if so wishes, but more often than not, it's no trouble for me to put in the full title, unless it's a specific element for each bond release, then I really feel like using shortened titles as no alternative, but other than that, just automatically use full Bond titles for any given release on their own, or with two or three in company. It's only when you have to list the entire 23, that it becomes a problem
Have to say, I can't abide text speak on any given forums, be it James Bond, or anywhere you find it. Thankfully we get a minimum on that here, so I applaud authority figures for stamping that out. Half the time can't comprehend a damn thing that is being mentioned..
Take pride in your work if you can, go to the extra trouble, to present it better, and show it to others - how you would like to read it, and you won't go far wrong
I'm merely a fast and accurate typist in my defense
Only with 'On Her Majestys Secret Service' do I consider - "should I do it"
Other than that, once again, not really a problem
The films are more pieces of art than the titles themselves.
It's tiring to read them? It's tiring to write The Spy Who loved Me, The Man With The Golden Gun, You only live twice, On her majesty's secret service every single time you post.
Also what's this about artistic integrity and the titles? Yes they're nice titles but using abbreviations doesn't detract from that one iota - it's not like a Bond movie title is a Buddhist meditation 'Oummmmm' like every time you say it you reach enlightenment or something...
(lotus position) The World Is Not Enough ommmmmm The World Is Not Enough ommmmmm The World Is Not Enough ommmmmm The World Is Not Enough ommmmmm... (windchimes)
And theres now way I'm typing out OHMSS and TMWTGG in full just for your convenience I'm afraid. If you cant decipher the titles then youre not much of a fan. I think my mother could do it and shes hardly a Bond fan.
Close this mods as where else can we go here? The rest of us arent going to write out the titles in full so he'll just have to lump it.
Benny has provided a very good lexicon for cinema Bond.
From a literary perspective, the following should complete your education:
CS = Colnel Sun
JG = John Gardner continuation novels (first five are worthwhile).
YB = The great "Young Bond" novels.
MD = The fabulous Moneypenny diaries.
DMC = Crap
CB = Complete Crap.
RB = Raymond Benson Bond disintegration novels. All complete, unmitigated, unforgivable,
Crap.
This, together with Benny's explanation should allow you to enjoy this great forum without further translation difficulties.
As for the great "TheWizardOflc" - don't mind him, he is actually a very nice guy. He just doesn't suffer Bond fools gladly!
Very good. You nearly had me there. Although I think you're being overly generous with DMC. I dont think Bensons efforts were as bad as that.
I generally am, I find.
That said, and this is probably a sacrilege, I do detect a rare lack of taste when it comes to friend Benson. Is it possible that there is an inappropriate influence or was he simply imbibing the good stuff whilst reading?
You're learning Mr Villiers53. Perhaps theres hope for you after all. Although not just the movies. I can set you straight on the books as well. I'm not a big head though. I won't claim supremacy on games (although I dont really count them as part of the canon).
Perhaps I didnt make myself clear here. I didnt mean Bensons books werent that bad, just that they werent as bad as DMC.
Bensons were pretty grim reading (although High Time to Kill was an interesting concept) but he was a fan who had been given the job of his life and did his best despite his limitations as a writer.
Faulkes was supposedly a great (well decent - need to see if people are still reading you in 50 years Seb to have a chance of being labelled great. Although theres a bloke called Ian Fleming whose books are still selling who you think you are better than. Lets see shall we?) writer who treated the whole project as beneath him. Thought he was some genius artist who could piss better than Fleming before breakfast. Well if you had written anything approaching half decent I could have said fair enough but DMC would be an insult even for fan fiction. Cant believe the money he got for squeezing out this turd.
I was only saying that in relation to Faulkes, Benson isnt too bad. Sort of like saying I'd sooner watch DAD than CR67. 'Rock' and 'hard place' springs to mind but at least Benson had genuine enthusiasm rather than someone just checking their word count every day until they hit their contractual requirement.
