though Quantum of Solace is a close second!
I'll go with From Russia With Love too.
Close runner ups would be Diamonds Are Forever and For Your Eyes Only
On Her Majestys Secret Service sounds damn fine though, and is after all, what James Bond does for a living, so I see no reason not to go with that. It was the first thing that came to mind
You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever, For Your Eyes Only, License to Kill, and The World Is Not Enough all deserves a mention also
Dr.No: simple and clean, but with a dark, menacing tone behind it
Diamonds Are Forever: I just like the sound of it
On Her Majesty's Secret Service: because it summarizes the essence of Bond
Worst titles:
Die Another Day: what does it even mean? Also, sound pretty unoriginal at this point
TomorrowNeverDies: again, sounds cheap and unoriginal
Thunderball: sorry Ian, it's a pretty lousy title ;-) (But I love both book and film!)
OHMSS: Great sweeping romantic Bond title. sums it all up so perfectly.
As for the worst:
TND: Its non-nonsensical; essentially all they did was throw some words together and hope the outcome was something that sounded exciting but in actual fact it falls flat.
QOS: Silly silly title. Has little to no real relation to the film and if you call a film 'Quantum of Solace' it makes sense that at some point in the film you should explain what it means. Here your probably more clueless what it meant coming out of the film then you were going in. I know that it refers to Bond's mental state etc. but Bond isn't an arthouse brand and QOS is far from an arthouse movie. So why the title?! They should have just called it 'The Property of a Lady' in reference to Vesper's necklace. Boom. A good use of a Fleming title that actually fits with the overall film.
Honorable mentions: On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Quantum of Solace and You Only Live Twice.
From Russia With Love
Casino Royale and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are as well favorites both in films and titles.
The weakest perhaps are Licence to Kill (I much rather Licence Revoked) and Die Another Day, as they are too simple and dull.
The World is Not Enough and Quantum of Solace are good in sound but fall apart because they are underused in their movies.
Anyway most of the titles are great, even better than the movies in some cases.
And if it's the family motto, shouldn't have had a reference his family in some way?
FRWL & OHMSS they are simply the best Flemingesque movies.
worst
QoS which is a great title too bad it is one of the only great things about it.
As for my favourite, I always really liked The Man With The Golden Gun. Not a huge fan of the film but I really like the title.
TLD, YOLT, FRWL, LALD and TWINE are close runners up.
Skyfall
The World is Not Enough
-Tomorrow Never Dies
-The World is not Enough
-Die Another Day
-Live and Let Die
-From Russia with Love
-A View to a Kill
Coming in 2nd I would say Dr.No, it feels tropical and exotic to me
and 3rd I would say License to Kill, it's to the point and explains Bond's field of work simply.
...Maud Adams, right? RIIIIIIGHT?! :D
Yes I know technically it should include 'from'.
Naughty boys.......but i know what you mean...hahaaha
Anyway i think the title:- "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"........hits the nail on the head.
