''I still reckon Lazenby would win. He won the part because of a fight test, he taught hand to hand to the Aussie military, he was mates with Bruce Lee, etc.''[/quote]
Huh?? I didn't know that at all!! I guess this is where Q would look angrily at me and say 'Do pay attention OddJaws'!!! :)
Runner up : Pierce Brosnan (close to 1st)
3rd place and podium: Sir Sean Connery
4th : Daniel Craig
5th : Roger Moore
6th : Tim Dalton
Craig is a true fighter and more violent but for me, he's much overrated. Pierce is generally underrated in this contest. Moore and Dalton didn't fought much, like others, so they're at the the bottom... Sir Sean is the safe value.
That's what I think.
Connery would give him a tough fight.
Lazenby and Moore would be the firsts to go
Dalton would try had maybe bruise him a bit and then get choked or shot
Bronson (like Connery) would fight Craig for hours until he goes down as well.
I meant Brosnan
I have a hard time envisaging the latter fighting his way out of a wet paper bag sometimes as James Bond, at risk of a backlash, but it's true
Don't ruffle the hair..
Dalton beats Brosnan.
Connery beats Dalton.
Lazenby beats Connery.
Craig beats Lazenby.
Craig wins.
Obviously in his first appearances he would of been a more capable fighter, but even then, Lazenby or Craig would of had him for dinner. Only Brosnan stands out more as the most unbelievable brawler
Didn't Sean win an Olympic metal for weightlifting back in the day. He's the real deal.
lol
Connery represented Scotland in the 1953 Mr Universe bodybuilding competition (there are differing accounts of which year and how well he did). However, bodybuilders back then looked *very* different than the ones from today:
Compared to now:
When I was a kid, Connery looked very athletic and we never questioned that he could beat up anyone or perform any type of physical feat. In fact, I remember guys wanting to be as fit and as muscular (!) as him. Yet just a few years later we were in the age of Schwartzenegger and Stallone and suddenly Connery looked puny.
Ha Ha some funny photos there.
I think however the guy in the last photo might just be using steroids, what do you think ;)
The dude is so tiny I'd likely trip over him, yet he'd knock me unconscious before I could move to stop him!
That is who I was thinking of while writing this comment. And a little of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.
When I was younger and friends of mine were first getting into martial arts this was a common thing that was said. However, as my cousin pointed out when you have a huge guy who is strong enough all he has to do is land ONE punch (he saw this happen a couple of times) and the fight is over. I do agree that the guy who is smarter and keeps his head has the better chance, but it's a chance and not a certainty.
As for the last guy in the pics above using steroids I can't say for sure. I will say however that I have seen friends of mine who are trainers get exceptionally huge and cut without steroids. On the flip side, I've seen guys at my gym openly injecting steroids in the locker room and they don't get as big or as cut as my friends. Steroids are not the magic potion that people think they are - without a methodical plan and hard work you don't achieve greatness.
I'd buy the size doesn't matter argument for Connery if he threw down more like modern action movies - more tactical, going for vitals. Simplicity and economy was two main points of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, which allowed a smaller and more compact guy to move and fight the way he did - plus Bruce was jacked. But Connery brawls, there isn't much martial arts behind it. He hits a guy 2-3 times and gets socked himself. Thats where thelordflashheart's point comes into play. Sure Connery has potential to be a good fighter, probably was as far as the local pub went, but smaller size needs to be complemented by considerable skill. When skill is comparable size comes greatly into play.
