I got thinking that as there's a 'greatest Roger Moore's Bond moments' in existence on these pages, then why not one for another. Seems unfair that Mr Moore should have one all to himself. I did a look through archives and could find no evidence of such a thread for any other Bond, so if possible, just decided my own favorite Timothy Dalton, should have a corner to himself, in that - What do you think was Dalton's five memorable moments as James Bond, or in other words, what five instances did you enjoy most about Timothy Daltons two appearances. I'm sure this isn't a duplicate thead and is indeed a standalone, but apologize if done wrong, but in any event -
#1 The 'Smiert Spionam' balloons at the Prater fair and Dalton's expression after Saunders killing
#2 Hanging on by the fingertips over the cocaine grinder in License to Kill
'
#3 'The make a sound and you're dead' sequence with Lupe Lamora on the Wavekrest
#4 After killing of Necros on the cargo plane, and closing the rear, realizing the bomb is ticking and scramble to deactivate it in time
#5 Have to include the killing of Franz Sanchez. 'You could of had everything' - 'Don't you want to know why ?'
If there was one for Moore, I thought maybe Mr Dalton deserved some moments to himself also, that's all
Comments
2) Pushkin hotel room scene
3) The bit where Saunders dies at the fair with the balloons
4) The entire PTS of The Living Daylights
5) When he catches up to the plane and steals the money in Licence To Kill
Honorable mention to the office scene with Sanchez ("problem eliminator"), the bit in LTK where he's been caught by the MI6 agent ("piss off"), and the entire sniper bit in TLD (stuff my orders, etc).
2. "Whoever she was I must have scarred the living daylights out of her"
3. Interrogation of Pushkin ("get down on your knees...put your hands behind your back")
4. "No...thanks Della...it's time I left"
5. "Make a sound...and you're dead"
'Kara, we're inside a Russian airbase, in the middle of Afghanistan.'
'We have a saying too - and you're full of it.'
'Piss Off!'
Bond chasing saunders assasin.
We are in the middle of afganistan.
More of a problem eliminator.
Scared the living daylights out of her.
Do you want to know why.
2) The death of Saunders and popping the balloon.
3) The scene with Lupe on the boat and 'compliments of Sharkey'.
4) The Pushkin scene.
5) The awesome cojones he has to just walk into Sanchez's office.
His reluctance to pursue Pushkin ( also Robert Browns best seen)
Vienna Cafe as previously highlighted
His bruised battered and emotional reaction to Sanchez blowing up in flames
His ruthless determination in both of his PTS's
Nice one Tim. Bond - exactly how he should be. :-)
In no particular order my top Tim moments which for me sum up the focus, depth and intensity of not only his Bond but his acting skill.

2) "More a problem elliminator"
3) Escaping from the Wavekrest (also includes the water skiing)
4) "I've had a few optional extras installed"
5) The Tanker chase
- When he is on the Cargo plane at the Afghan airfield and he wants Milovy to drive the truck up the rear, she doesn't understand, and Dalton gives an exasperated look as though, "what do I have to do here"
- Lighting his cigarette at the Sanchez residence and having some coffee and almost immediately decides to leave. "No, forget about your hotel, stay here, enjoy my hospitality" - "No, I have to get back"
- Questioning Pam Bouvier with her gun about why she was in Heller's office. "You're working with them" - "No !"
- Slipping into the water without a ripple on board the Wavekrest after he plants the money to frame Krest and two of the Sanchez henchmen's backs are turned
Telling Koskov at the pipeline - "You're the first"
(2) The "farewell to arms" scene.
(3) "Smiert spionam, death to spies" while lighting a cigarette.
(4) Following Kara in the tram. It's one of the best serious spying moments in the franchise. (Also later when he's watching Pushkin. Dalton makes the best "spy" Bond of them all in TLD, in my opinion.)
(5) "Why me?" he asks Saunders in a mysterious way that fascinates me.
1. Cargo net fight - one of the best fights in the series
2. Balloon popping - a very short but powerful scene that sums up his portroyal of Bond
3. TLD PTS - His intro is classic, and the Jeep fight is thrilling
4. Pushkin hotel room - Very tense moment
5. Escaping from the wavekrest - Excellent stuntwork, and the "Compliments of Sharkey" is a highlight of the series (I like the score accompanying that line too)
2.TLD PTS
3.James Bond vs Necros
4.Farewell to Arms scene
5.Pushkin in the motel room
6.Stuff my orders!
7.Bond & Pam Bouvier on the boat
8.James Bond vs Brad Whitaker
9.Why me?
10.You've earned it. You keep it! Old buddy scene
Great choices.
I'd switch out Bond vs. Whitaker for 'Need to know' scene with Saunders but otherwise I love all these moments.
Final chase at end of LTK with semi trucks- intense and brutal scene
Fighting necros hanging off of plane- "He got the boot."
"more of a problem eliminator."- best line in the movie
When he pulls out the lighter to kill sanchez- "Don't you want to know why?"
Look on TDs face as Kara tries to drive into the cargo plane.
"The brand on the list was questionable, sir..."
'Just taking the Aston Martin out for a spin' to Q, and the subsequent 'do be careful 007 - it's just had a new coat of paint' - was also a great moment
'You earned it, you keep it - old buddy'
and the way he looks at Sharkey when he says 'what a waste' - 'of money'
classic Dalton moments. He truly was the best you often feel
Maybe it's just d'Abo, as I thought she was one of the most banal and colorless characters ever to grace the Bond franchise, and it just goes on too long. 'We could be here all night' says Dalton, and you really feel you could be when watching..
I didn't quite comprehend what was being said in the last post towards the end ?
I'm done for tonight. buona notte
Meh thats ok, hardly one of Dalton's finest moments. It feels somewhat dated now and if Brosnan had done it people would have called it cheesey.
and the way he looks at Sharkey when he says 'what a waste' - 'of money'
Hmm...again ok but I wouldn't call it one of his finest scenes.
Its got a OOO, look how tough/intense I am quality to it
The "make a sound" scene is much better IMO
As much as I appreciate Dalton's intense, dramatic facial expressions I don't think he tops Craig's dead, shark-eyed stare at Severine in SF.
Anyway I digress. My fav Dalton moments are above.
I forgot to post that qoute from Sir Timothy because I was excited about the thread.
'He's had enough - run a tab'
'Now why didn't you wait until you were asked'
'Now that shouldn't be too difficult'
'Pack your stuff - bring some warm clothes'
When he's in Gibraltar on the truck with the rogue agent and they pass under that bridge
The obvious fuel line attached to Dalton's wrist when he demonstrates the lighter at the Della / Felix wedding reception
The 'drowned rat' appearance at the Isthmus casino
When Bouvier nearly kills him with the camera laser
'That's for Sharkey'..
'Looks like he came to a dead end'
The fight with the Afghanistan air base guard in Daylights
'The brand on the list was questionable Sir, so I took the liberty of choosing something else' - 'Superb Mister Bond, superb' (M gives an exasperated look and just wishes to get on with things)
1) His scenes with Pushkin, INCLUDING the faked assassination!
2) Popping the "Smiert Spionym" balloon -- what intensity!
3) Necross & Bond holding onto the cargo net while fighting for dear life.
4) "You earned it, you keep it -- old buddy!"
5) Escaping the Wavekrest by water-skiing onto the airplane, topped off by the delight in his face when he discovers all that money he's suddenly come into. How people came to brand this film as "humorless" I'll never know!
No other Bond actor can puncture balloons quite like Dalton, it has to be said
2. Bond first confronts Pushkin
3. Bond first meets Sanchez
4. TLD Pre-Titles
5. After Sanchez is killed, there is a great shot of Dalton who is seemingly about to break down. It's all over, and you can see the pain on Bond's face. It's a small thing but it was fantastic.
At the rural cottage, in Wales.
The ice chase scene, plus the cello
"Smiert Spionam" balloons and meeting Pushkine
Killing Sanchez
2. Exercise at Gibraltar - TLD
3. Tanker chase/Killing Sanchez - LTK
4. The scenes in Bratislava - TLD
5. "He disagreed with something that ate him" - LTK
However I think my favourite Dalton moment wasn't yet mentioned.
You guys talked about popping the balloon, however as good as it is, the scene goes on right into my favourite moment. Dalton trying to chase Necros and in the process unintentionally threatening the mother with her child and quickly hiding the gun.
I love it! It's one of my favourite moments of the whole franchise. Dalton's acting is perfect! It could imo also be straight out of a novel.
