Yes, they probably essentially said to Mendes (over and over) "Tell us what you need, what you want. You can have it. Really. Just sign on the dotted line." Because of course they wanted him back - the highest grossing Bond film ever. That only makes good business sense. Bond is again so revitalized as a series; it's an amazing accomplishment, really.
  • I want to hear about Deakins first. Newman back is okay with me, but I do want more from him. Then I'd love to know some locations. I think it will take time to get word on the main villain and main Bond girl. Unless things are rolling behind scenes that no one's heard of yet ... certainly possible.

It will definitely be some time before casting begins. Agree with Deakins, Newman we have no choice but to tolerate as long as Mendes is in charge. Hopefully he will do better this time because he didn't surpass Arnold last time out for Bondian feel.

I think we better let Dimi decide what flavor he might be ;)
Told you all :-). I was expecting a fall 2015 release. I was prepared for it. Especially after 'Skyfall's' success, you could place a bet on the producer's behaviour that they want to repeat this success, both quality-wise and finance-wise. And with Sam Mendes back as director we can witness a kind of continuity we haven't seen since the days of Terence Young ('DN', 'FRWL'). I am very very pleased!!!

It's shame there isn't a "pat yourself on the back" icon :))

But then we would all be over-using it constantly. ;) I know I would.

    John Glen?

I don't know if this applies as much. DR and FRWL really did have the same feel, and there were references of one in the other. You didn't really get that too much with Glen's films, either with Moore or Dalton. They felt much more stand-alone IMO. The only thing that was consistent was Dalton's portrayal.

If Mendes wants to distance himself from Skyfall perhaps have a Fleming title for Bond 24.

One other thing, I expect things to move pretty quickly from now on. I imagine Mendes will be "working weekends" on B24, and so can sit in on the casting discussions etc. etc. with the producers, Craig, and the scriptwriters. More announcements in October?

Anyone keen to crowd-fund a medal for GG?

With regards to the title? Do we think they will do a better job of getting the domain name after the revealing the title to the world?
With the major disaster of the entire world knowing the title of Skyfall already? You would hope so! How long before the press conference was the Skyfall title given away? Can anyone recall?

Been a while since the last post. Whats new?

I guess I should have just waited several more hours :)

I'm so excited that Craig will have some director continuity with his tenure. I couldn't be more thrilled. Yeah, 2015 is another year beyond 2014 of course but it's worth it.

By the way, 2015 is 50th Anniversary of Thunderball... Now you can talk... ;) :D
  • Perfect news. Summer/Fall 2015 is the ideal release date, nobody has to be rushed, not to mention the return of my favorite director (tied with Paul Thomas Anderson, of course). Fantastic!

As much as I love seeing the final film, the two years leading up to it make for a great time here at MI6.

:)) so who will the estate of McGlory approach to buck Craig, Dalton or Brozzer? Maybe Matt Damon? He always did secretly want to be Bond :P

As much as I loved Skyfall and want Mendes, Deakins, Fiennes, Whishaw, and Harris to return, I don't want another film like Skyfall.

To enunciate, I really loved Skyfall.

But, Bond barely talks in the film. He's meant to be dealing with a lot and be a little moody, understood. But now we're over it. Now we should see Bond hitting his stride. A smirk in the corner of his mouth and a swiftness to his movement. A good, fun, exciting, enthralling, emotional (but not too emotional) film.

@JWESTBROOK, I like that idea. I think that's what I'm hoping for, as well.

I think the story will be completely different and not reminiscent of SF in any way. Style? It's almost impossible to predict what kind of curve ball EON will throw out this time around. They've already shown me that they have little respect for certain cliches (a woman in the end, the gun barrel, less focus on the guest actors as opposed to the usual support cast) so I don't know what to think any more :(

Indeed, Craig now needs a feel good film or two, with the same feeling we got at the end of SF, some much needed normalcy.

Something to point out around the time of Skyfall didn't Kevin Spacey say something like "If Mendes returns for Bond 24 I am definitely going to be in"

So perhaps Kevin Spacey as Quantum member and Billionaire Technology Mogul Julian Hildebrand.

    :D

    Oh Lord...

But I seriously hope it isn't Skyfall 2. I hope for a more positive Bond film.

He also wrote in June that Bond 25 (yes, 25) in 2015 or 2016 was realistic. :)

Skyfall 2 because it's the same director ?
    Was "Casino Royale" a "Goldeneye 2" ?
Was "From Russia with love" a "Dr No 2" movie ?
Was "Licence to kill" "Octopussy 2" ?

Wasn´t exactly that the logical assumption after QOS? With SF continuing the brooding motif I wouldn´t be surprised if that´s the new fashion for the time being.

It better not because it's already getting old not just in Bond but in movies in general. Films like Avengers, Mission Impossible and Pacific Rim are proving that films don't need to be depressing and with the new UNCLE film coming out as well as a new MI, I think they'll reaffirm that films can still be great while maintaining a degree of fun and lightness of touch.

Hmm. I so do not like Kevin Spacey; I hope he is not in it. Unless he is a villain, but then he'd have to be the main villain and I just don't enjoy seeing him on screen. So I hope not.

I'd like a Fleming title, too. But this group throws out different things, don't they? I'm going to hopefully go with "The Property of a Lady" just because it sounds so good. Doesn't have to have anything to do with the story; it's just a very nice Bond film title. And I do not think it will be like Skyfall; they will go for a different kind of story, feel, locations, etc.
