From Where Has Everybody Gone:

Because you're beautiful,
And you'll soon be long gone.
And the ashes of your memoirs will be strewn across the lawn.

    ALL of Moonraker.

I disagree. The lyrics are about searching for your soul mate, the true love of your life.

    Where are you
    Why do you hide
Where is that moonlight trail that leads to your side
    Just like the moonraker goes
In search of his dream of gold
    I search for love
For someone to have and hold
    I've seen your smile
    In a thousand dreams
    Felt your touch
    And it always seems
    You love me
    You love me

    Where are you
    When will we meet
Take my unfinished life and make it complete
    Just like the moonraker knows
His dream will come true someday
    I know that you
    Are only a kiss away
    I've seen your smile
    In a thousand dreams
    Felt your touch
    And it always seems
    You love me
    You love me

It has nothing much to do with the movie save for the lines following "Moonraker" which references Drax's dreams, his "gold" and "dream" being his master plan. The rest is quite simple once you've read them.

Several bizarre lyrics that come to mind are those from AVTAK and QOS.
  • Agreed, Henry. And now, having looked at the lyrics in full, they are quite poignant, even beautiful.

Love is required whenever he's hired,
It comes just before the kill.

TMWTGG. Don't know if it's only me who interprets it in a dirty way O:-)

Yes, didn't Scaramanga need to have sex before he went out on a hit? It's been a while since I saw that film.

If you're not interpreting that in a dirty way then you're not doing it right.
    ;)

Bizarre lyrics, just because they're so incredibly tacky. Of course, nowadays they would raise nary an eyebrow.
  • Diamonds Are Forever.

The direction given to Shirley Bassey on how to approach the song? "Imagine you're singing about a penis!" :O

That reminds me of the story John Barry used to tell about how Shirley Bassey didn't understand the lyrics to GF and wanted direction so Barry turned to her and said "Shirley just go out there and sing your muff off".

I don't really get the lyrics to either AVTAK or TLD, maybe I just don't get eighties pop!

    It's just another
    Hey!
    It's just another
    You're nothing to me, die
    It's just another
    Shoot 'em, bang bang!
    It's just another
    It's just another
    It's just another way
    Shoot 'em up, bang bang
    Hey Hey
    It's just another
    Yeah Yeah

    It's just another
    It's just another
    It's just another
    It's just another day
    Bang bang bang bang

Bizzare and Bad. Nothing needs explaining.

OMG JACK WHITE AND ALICIA KEYS.

'm gonna wake up, yes and no
I'm gonna kiss some part of
    I'm gonna keep this secret
I'm gonna close my body now

    I guess, die another day
    I guess, die another day
    I guess, die another day
    I guess, die another day

I guess I'll die another day
    (Another day)
I guess I'll die another day
    (Another day)
I guess I'll die another day
    (Another day)
I guess I'll die another day

    Sigmund Freud
    Analyze this
    Analyze this
    Analyze this

    I'm gonna break the cycle
I'm gonna shake up the system
    I'm gonna destroy my ego
I'm gonna close my body now

    Uh, uh

I think I'll find another way
There's so much more to know
I guess I'll die another day
It's not my time to go

For every sin, I'll have to pay
I've come to work, I've come to play
I think I'll find another way
It's not my time to go

    I'm gonna avoid the cliche
    I'm gonna suspend my senses
    I'm gonna delay my pleasure
I'm gonna close my body now

    I guess, die another day
I guess I'll die another day
    I guess, die another day
I guess I'll die another day

I think I'll find another way
There's so much more to know
I guess I'll die another day
It's not my time to go

    Uh, uh

    [Laugh]

    I guess, die another day
I guess I'll die another day
    I guess, die another day
I guess I'll die another day

The whole song is beyond bizarre, the clip is worse, but the lyrics about Sigmund Freud... Why?

"Another Way to Die" might not have the greatest vocal performance at times, and the lyrics have moments of stupidity, but the main sections of the lyrics are quite well put together and present an image of paranoia and danger, much akin to the spy world Bond finds himself in.

Barry was class in a glass.

    Yes!

Nightfall covers me, but you know the plans I'm making
Still over sea, could it be the whole world opening wide
A sacred why, a mystery gaping inside
    The weekend's why

Heh. I suppose that must have made sense to LeBon at some time.

I would guess that some sort of psychedelic was in play, because these are a pretty trippy kind of mess.

TLD also bizarro and Madonna's lyrics suck donkey d...AWTD's lyrics agreed are better than these 4 examples, I agree with @obrady in his assessment of those.

I thought I was the only one who was head-scratching at some of these lyrics. Some not only have no connection to the film they precede, but furthermore others appear nonsensical entirely. AVTAK is a great song, but only for the mood or feeling it elicits, and doesn't hold up well once you analyze the lyrics.

The song sounds much better if you listen to the Live Aid performance, all those 'bum notes' is just class. (so much it killed them)

If you look what we get now with DC era, DAD song perfect fit and not CR but DAD the first maintitle song predict future Bond movie(s).
  • The Sigmund Freud Analyze this-bit from DAD is by far the worst and most bizarre lyics as of yet. Hopefully nothing worse will ever be sung in a Bond tune.

When I want to drive my husband mental, I sing the melody to Goldfinger but replace it with Moonraker lyrics. Not the real ones though.

    More like:

    Moonraker
It's the ship, the ship with the lunar touch
    A spacey touch
    Such a moon seeker
Beckons you to boldly go where no man has gone before
    Beware of the trap floor

The lyrics change all the time. I know they are not going to the moon but it's really quite awesome.

Agreed. I mean AWTD, however awful it was, kind of, sort of made sense, in a primitive, rough treatment, not even remotely baked, written at the corner of a table beginning of a project of song. DAD's lyrics were arrogant, and the Sigmund Freud Analyze this was just... abysmal trying to be edgy and smart.

Though, I am sure Freud would appreciate Bond's own phallic might to bed the ladies and the various innuendos pointing to his little soldier that have sprout up in the series and on the posters of the films since 1962.

    I agree with the above-DAD.
    Analyze that!
  • I don't know what the lyrics are to Die Another Day - or Quantum of Solace - as I invariably turn off audio rather than listen to anything from those two awful garbage intros, but have seen it read that QOS actually has some decent lyrics if you take away the awful Keys singing that accompanies it

Bassey's Moonraker as stated, is a bit of a mystery, as is A-HAs The Living Daylights. Duran Duran's A View to a Kill is also worth a mention

AVTAK really takes the cake. Though it's one of my favorites, I have to admit that the lyrics make no sense whatsoever, just a bunch of words strung together.

One can't help but wonder what they were on.

Hundred thousand people, I'm the one they blame.
Never really got this one, still one of my favorite bond tunes though.
  • It's about Bond's nightmare vision of a nuclear bomb going off and him unable to stop it despite his much vaunted reputation.

    Probably.

Thank you.. That sounds plausible now whenever I hear it it will give new meaning to the song
