Excuse the bad pun. Top five moments when Bond shows emotion.

5. Thought Pierce portrayed intensity well in the scene with Kaufman after Paris died in TND, one of the better scenes in the film.

4. Anya mentions to Bond his wife, rare touch of real emotion from Moore in TSWLM.

3. Locke in car booted of a cliff FYEO, great scene and Moore very convincing.

2. Dalton after Saunders is murdered, Daltons finest moment Imo.

1. Connerys reaction to having to tell Domino her brother has died.

    5. Brosnan learns Alec is Janus and about his past (not necessarily sad, but exactly how you would expect Bond to react).

Tracy's death (OHMSS)- For a man who was not a trained or experienced actor, Lazenby really steals this scene and with the help of Barry's score, cements it as the most tragic moment in Bond history, and a moment that changes our spy forever. As the camera shifts from Bond holding Tracy to that sole gun shot that punctured the car's windshield, the film leaves us cold and empty, much in the way that Blofeld and Bunt's act of villainy has left our agent.

    2.) M's death (SF)- A bold move, and one that still gets me. Dench's delivery of "at least I did something right" cements her as a character that, though flawed like us all, instilled in Bond the values all successful spies must have to survive. Her dedicated tutelage to her "golden boy" during CR, QoS and Skyfall insures that though she has gone, her best work lives on in Bond, the best of the agents under MI6's employ.

    3.) Vesper's death (CR)- It's like Tracy all over again, isn't it? The scene is heart-wrenching and unforgiving. Like with Tracy, Vesper and Bond were discussing what would lay ahead in their future together, sharing equal measures of optimism and drunk with love. Bond was ready to leave his old life and begin anew with Vesper, who he had grown to love after a contentious yet playful first meeting on the train to Montenegro. And yet, as the couple relax in Venice a storm cloud forms on the horizon. Vesper's death scene is hauntingly spectacular, played to brilliant form by Eva, who convinces you that this is a snuff film with a real woman literally drowning to death before our eyes. It turns only more traumatic as Bond frantically tries to reach her through the grate. What makes Vesper's death so powerful is the character's powerful story arc. She starts as an ally of Quantum, unknowingly tricked by Yusef and the organization, yet ends up sacrificing it all to save Bond, dying at her own hand because she couldn't live with herself after acting so duplicitously towards the man she truly loved. Vesper seemed to always be the victim, played like a violin by Yusef and Quantum from the start, and dying on her own terms the next. In this story of treachery, murder and double-dealing the only thing genuine was the love Vesper and Bond shared, the latter of whom is seen cradling his lover in his arms by film's end, trying to resuscitate her to no avail. Craig's performance here mirrors M's death in Skyfall, where Bond is holding yet another dead woman who had made a great impact in his life, the tears rolling down his eyes.

    4.) Bond finds a dead Della and injured Felix (LTK)- One of the greatest showings of Dalton's acting talents. As soon as his eyes lay upon Della and lead us to find Felix injured, we feel for Bond deeply. We share in his horror and mourn equally for Felix's lost bride. Nothing more needs to be said.

    5.) Della mentions marriage to a sad faced Bond, and Felix tells her he was married once, a "long time ago" (LTK)- Another gem from LTK which displays Bond's inner self once again. Dalton's performance in this scene is subtle yet alive, his expression transmitting to us all the emotion he is feeling in his heart at that moment. He tells us in a glance that this is the same Bond who cradled Tracy's lifeless corpse at the end of OHMSS, and all we want to do is give the man a hug for all his troubles.

    Nevermind I totally agree with these 5, in order. M's death affected me more than Vesper's, mostly because she had more chemistry and development with Bond. Perfect list.

    Purposely omitted Craig from my list lol See Craig era for what it is a reboot, a very good one. Though the rules have changed with Craigs Bond, you could fill a top ten with his Bond. lol

    Yeah, there's obviously things I like about it (CR is my favorite Bond film) but in the end I almost always prefer the steely and witty exterior of Connery. Dangerous and emotionally cold but still full of sparkle and wit. Craig seems a bit too brooding at times.

    I'm off topic! But yes, pretty much all of the "emotional core" moments of the series are from Craig's mere 3.

    Think CR is one of the best and certainly one of the most important certainly in the evolution of Bond. Though the producers are very smart and know how to mix Bond up to keep it going. They have so many variations on a theme over last fifty years, will no doubt get another fifty.
