i can hum, whistle Barry's sountracks all day long, so memorable...but Arnie...no chance...as Sean Connery says, the music is crap...
other films he does amazing things, but for Bond, mod edit - please mind your language, sir!
Connery himself said Arnold's work is crappity doo?
Happy days are here again!
And John Barry himself said Arnolds work was good, it was Barry who suggested him. And while Sean Connery was a fantastic Bond, he isn't a composer. Barry composed the best scores of the series, nobody will ever do Bond music as well as him.
I think it's fair to say that when it comes to the music, John Barry's word means more than Sean Connery's.
This, and let's not forget that it was Connery who suggested Michel Legrand to compose the score for Never Say Never Again. ;)
You don't need to be a composer to recognize good music when you hear it.
Arnold has moments, if you can sit through all the generic noise. At this point, I am sure John Williams and James Horner can compose a better score than David Arnold.
It became painful apparently that David Arnold's work paled so much next to Barry, Hamlisch, Martin and Conti. Other than You Know My Name, I have no idea from which movie Arnold's piece came from.
John Williams can compose a better score than everyone, comparing Arnold to Williams is not even fair. That said, I love Arnold and he should write next Bond scores.
If you're talking about the same medley I have listened to, it's "Night at the opera" from Quantum of Solace.
Seriously? 'Epic'...?
Arnold's scores for CR and QoS are his best work, IMO. Surrender and You Know my Name are both good songs that he can take pride in. But generally speaking, I agree that he has not really done anything to match some of the amazing scores from the past. Having said that, I thought Newman's work on SF was really, really disappointing. I am all for EON trying to improve the quality of the team on Bond, but if it's a choice between Newman and Arnold, I'd take Arnold everytime.
The thing is I rather have neither and that EON bring in a new and talented composer that wants to put himself out there and give us a new sound for this century.
Newman was to full of himself and Arnold was not able to reboot the music for a new Bond era with CR & QoB. DA did a good job with the Brosnan sound but with Craig he does some nice snippets but it has no cohesion and fails to be anything spectacular.
To be honest I still have not bought Newmans soundtrack as it is just not exciting to listen to, so a waste of money until I find a cheap 2nd hand. That said the soundtracks of the DA era seem to be less in the offering as anything before him.
Casino Royale was his best work. Quantum of Solace...as dull as the desert sand.

Didn't quite understand your post. But if you are saying that EON should be looking for someone better than Arnold and Newman, then I totally agree with you. However, if Mendes is pushing for Newman to do another, I would, frankly, prefer Arnold to return.
Newman or Arnold, they both did not convince me so either of them is bad IMHO.
1) Michael Giacchino
(And then the rest.)
I would agree, the man did overhaul the Star Trek music in a pretty convincing way, that is talking epic stuff.
And his Incredibles was a solicitation for the job if only EON would listen
I do like some of Arnold's work, though. I'd prefer him over Newman at this point.
Happy for a new composer to get a shot, though.
I never joke about Bond Getafix...
Tell me this is´nt epic..
I rest my case.
We have different opinions that's for sure, 'cause I´m not kidding. I love it! :)
