Well, Brosnan vs. anti-Brosnan arguments make their way into other threads. Consider it returning the favor.
With respect to Craig, every long-term Bond so far (Connery, Moore, and Brosnan) have ended their tenure on a weak note (DAF, AVTAK, and DAD). I don't see why Craig should be an exception.
Given that we don't know who will be helming the one after the next one - I am prepared to call you on that.
Do you not own one of the multiple releases on VHS tape/ DVD or Blu-Ray?
anyway. On the subject of the tank chase in GE. Its well done. The build up to the chase that takes place in the interrogation room and then the Library is great. The tank chase also contains the only point in the film that the music is any good.
Connery has Thunderball, so it's not unprecedented.
@Agent007391, you're obviously not much of a fan of Goldfinger, but...come on. There has to be some reason other than mass delusion that it launched Bondamania and still has the most famous elements in the popular imagination. And ending on a low note is hardly just a matter of tradition. It makes sense for the producers to go a new route after a bad movie, just like sports teams and bad seasons.
I don't know what makes people love Goldfinger so much (everything it has, save for the DB5 and Grumpy Q, were done better in From Russia With Love). The closest thing that comes to mind is something I heard on a DVD special feature one time (not Bond, I might add): "People have a wonderful idea of what they thought they saw in this film", which does, I guess, suggest mass delusion. I would say that it has to do with what film you're raised on, my own personal story may be the exception that proves the rule.
I was raised in the Brosnan era, though I did not see a Brosnan film for some years (TWINE first, then GE, then DAD, then TND). Instead, I was raised on the Moore era, because my father's an amazingly loyal Moore fan (my brother, not so much), my first Bond film being Live and Let Die. Despite being raised on the Moore films, (seeing them on TV marathons that aired them in the order of LALD, MR, OP, TSWLM, FYEO, AVTAK, TMWTGG, for some odd reason), I've never felt that Moore was the best Bond, nor have any of his films been my favorite (though LALD was my favorite theme song until Casino Royale/You Know My Name came out).
Now, because I never meant to add to the Goldfinger fans vs. Anti-Goldfinger fan argument, I'm going to cut myself off after that. My original statement, that Connery and Brosnan's third films weren't all that good, was simply an observation. TWINE was my first Brosnan film (GoldenEye my first Brosnan game, and my introduction into Bond in general), and Goldfinger my first Connery film. From the first viewing, I didn't really like either film, whereas TSWLM and SF I thought were both fantastic.
On the subject of the tank chase, I'm a little curious as to why people who enjoy the Goldfinger PTS (which is completely nonsensical and full of 60s-era action) don't enjoy the tank chase (which is completely nonsensical and full of 90s-era action).
In the future they should have Bond come across a Monster Jam event and he winds up having to steal one. Kind of been done in OHMSS but it would be funny to see Bond driving a huge 4 X 4.
The tank chase was the big set piece for GE and in my opinion one of the low points of an otherwise good flick.
I just had the feeling of "been there, done that". For a secret agent Bond sure does draw a lot of attention.
There were plenty of chases (set pieces) before this and some much better. It is better than any chase that I saw in DAF, but the set pieces of LALD, GF, even TLD are better.
And I hate cherry cake.
