SPOILERS!!! Dammit X(. Use the spoiler tags. Let's say it now: The entire SPECTRE-screenplay, albeit a draft version, has leaked. It's a criminal offense and it seriously compromises a lot of the fun and anticipation I previously had.

I'm truly annoyed by all this. Even more so when I read reactions like "but if we're being honest some of the stuff that's leaked is pretty awful". I'm really sad that we're even discussing this draft screenplay.

Fortunately to date the full draft screenplay, which is apparently online in 2 versions, is not easy to find.

If it is leaked in a more overt fashion in the next few weeks, then we'll have an interesting & unofrtunate situation where casual fans may know more about the actual plot (albeit an early version) than die hards who are trying not to find anything out.

Now that EON has put its statement out with threats, hopefully that's enough for some sites to take down what they've already put up.

I for one hope they do, because synopses are actually broadcast on some sites that people go to in order to read general entertainment news, rather than when specifically searching for this stuff. That's how I came across it.

These two pages apparently have a deep deep spoiler-ish effect on me. I was just reading a topic on IMDB that was not spoiler protected, and there I read
parts of Mexico City will be blown up to pieces
. Well really, THAT MAKES ME ANGRY @bondjames. You obviously understand.

Also, now you get topics like these:
"I'm Glad the Leak Happened", basically a full attack on EON Productions
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2379713/board/thread/237979964

This will all have consequences for the fun and anticipation we initially had. And it's already generating a lot of negativity surrounding "SPECTRE". The 300 Million budget gets attacked everywhere, now EON Productions is being tagged as criminals themselves. A bunch of multimillionaires who are killing off small budget filmmakers.

Really, one needs to be careful here and keep focussed on the main problem here. The main criminal: Which is "Guardians of Peace. The actual criminal hackers.

Also I wouldn't bet my money just yet that Waltz is ever 100% Blofeld.

I'm hoping for a pleasant surprise on that front. Or that they hold off on the revelation for B25. It would just increase the anticipation for the next movie, which would be important marketing if Mendes is not coming back for it.

I agree @Gustav_Graves. I'm not happy about this at all either. We are fans here who like to speculate and discuss our favourite franchise. Now we have a new movie coming out and we are forced to keep our mouths shut while fly by night fans are out there trashing the leaked scripts...I'm not happy that we are not able to discuss as freely as we otherwise could.

BTW I did not know about the part you posted (the Spoiler about a certain city). I read a script synopsis which was on an entertainment news site but it did not mention this.

At the end of the day, Sony are just as much to blame as GOP IMO. They should never have put this stuff in soft format. I feel especially bad for EON given to what lengths they normally go to protect the Bond script. This could also mark the end of the Sony/EON partnership (isn't it meant to be done with after this film anyway?)

I'm sure this leak will lead to major changes in how scripts are protected in the future as it should.

This could affect SPECTRE's overall box office take and it could also affect the perceptions of the movie in the minds of the general public. That's not good, espcially if the opinions are being formed off an early draft. I remember all the negative speculation when TND was being made......

Indeed. Not to mention more long-term consequences. Sony is still alive, but this could result to a situation were Sony could really go bankrupt. Threathening possible production of Bond 25. Sony has always been a very good production partner of EON. Ever since "Casino Royale" they were part in the success of the Bond films also.

I really hope that next month the attention to this hack and the leaked SPECTRE-screenplay has been windled down completely.

Um, Bond 25 won't have any trouble at all getting financed, especially if the partnership with Sony is supposed to end with SPECTRE.

I like all this controversy. The last time there was this much negativity before a Bond film was during the year leading up to CR. I interpret all this as a sign that Spectre will be as great as Casino Royale. ;)

Well, it does put SPECTRE on the front page of many movie websites and tv channels....again. But if it's positive, I'm not sure. As it contains complete screenplay leaks. Which is very bad.

This will have consequences for the box office I think. Especially when you just read the headlines:

    Are we happy now :(?

Actually, I was thinking about watching that one soon. I've not seen Dr. No for quite some time. I've just started the 2nd season of Newsroom yesterday so have to get through that first, but all Spectre Connery Bonds are on my list before New Year.

I don't think the fact that the screenplay has leaked is that bad and I also don't understand why people are so afraid of spoilers. Studies have shown that spoilers do not ruin the moviegoing experience.

Take the Harry Potter films for example. 8 movies based on books. Everyone knew that Dumbledore would die in Part 6 or that Snape will turn out to be a good guy in Part 7...

Ah man. We're five days into shooting and I'm going to have to leave this thread. Luckily, I haven't read anything - but it's a shame that some people can't keep their mouths shut.

I've been on these boards and their predecessors for 10 years next June - never had to do this.

We're a year from release. All this will probably be pretty forgotten when the time comes for people to put their money down.
  • Watching Dr No now. SonyLeaks? Never happened. I have been brainwashed a moment ago :-)

I'm not too worried about the script issues. Jez Butterworth notably saved "Edge of Tomorrow" with his massive rewrites shortly before the film's production (although Christopher McQuarrie added more scenes during filming). Butterworth and Sam Mendes are still improving the Spectre script even at this eleventh hour.

Also, Daniel Craig's casual remark at the press conference that Spectre now has "a better script than we had last time" (compared to Skyfall) gives me some hope. A lot could have changed between the reported script leaks and the press conference...

    So... All is not lost.

The funny thing is that even though the administrators of those Bond sites stated that they won't write or publish any information about the leaked screenplay, they will be the first in line to read the script. If they haven't read it already...

Yes, but then I'm very happy that these editors from Bond fan sites are not spoiling as much as most general movie entertainment websites do.

One positive effect of this all could be that the cast & crew of SPECTRE will do even more their best to make it a top quality espionage thriller. Because this will most certainly piss off Sam Mendes, Daniet Craig and all others involved.

Expect 7 minutes of SPECTRE footage during the event called CinemaCon in next April...
Also, they were planning to shoot 3 big action sequences in IMAX but that plan was abandoned. The movie will be anamorphic, except these 3 big scenes which will be shot with spherical lenses.

So all of a sudden remarks are made that make it appear as if SF had a bad script? Sounds exactly like the time between QOS and SF....

As for the leaks, no casual movie-goer ever reads scripts. And the way the media deal with it is rather unprofessional, yes, but most media are unprofessional in any case, so there´s not that much of a difference.

What´s the difference between anamorphic and spherical lenses?

    [/quote]

Anamorphic lenses squeeze the image onto the film negative so they can frame for aspect ratio 2:35:1 - widescreen or letterbox. Because the light is being squeezed as it goes through the lens, there is a much greater drop off in depth of field which directors and DOPs, cameramen, use dramatically, artistically etc. when framing and lighting. The final film is un-squeezed by the projector lens to produce the full widescreen image.

Spherical lenses are flat, in that they do not squeeze the image onto the 35mm film stock, and as such they frame for 1.85:1 (close to the 16x9 widescreen of TVs these days) which is not as wide as the anamorphic letterbox image. But to match the same framing as the material shot on anamorphic lenses, they will shoot Super 35mm which means they use the extra area on the film stock normally reserved for the soundtrack (the optical track in the old days) once the film is completed, but with digital sound and projection now, that is no issue.

The reason why they are using spherical lenses for certain action shots is that it's much easier to shoot and frame low light, fast action shots with spherical lenses, especially as they do not have the dramatic depth of field drop off which anamorphic lenses have.

    That's broadly it.

Note that we saw a three digital cameras mount (those who read the leak can now guess for which scene it is) for an even wider image (or rather, for a wider image to take your frame from).
As for what this means for IMAX, the scenes shot on spherical lenses in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio they'll show in that aspect ratio to fill the IMAX screens - like if the film was shot with IMAX cameras from the start.

By the way, leaks aside, is there any word on the title song artist yet? I don't really dare to scry the internet for info, but it'd be cool if there was a hint.

Also, Butterworth is one of my favourite writers, so I do trust him.

The funny thing is, before the movie hits, in fact before the trailer hits, as soon as we start seeing pics official or otherwise, people are going to really start losing their minds (in a good way).

As for who's doing the song, I'm surprised such info didn't get leaked; which is good.

I heard through the grapevine non of the names previously linked are doing it and that its Paloma Faith who has landed it

I would love if Paloma did it, I've been championing her since before SF. I haven't heard any rumours yet, but during a recent-ish (couple of months) Q&A she did on twitter she was asked if she was doing it and she completely ignored those questions, which I found amusing.
