In 2002 Corgi produced a gold plated Aston Martin DB5, displayed in a gold ingot presentation box. They were originally produced as promotional samples for businesses within the London Area to promote the Corgi brand. The promotion was limited to 99 pieces, which were hand delivered to company CEOs. Unfortunately the lack of information regarding this promotion has since caused a great deal of speculation amongst collectors and the later emergence of variants of this model has added further confusion.
In June this year a UK based specialist toy auction sold 2 of these promotional ingots along with other Bond-related material, including box design concepts, mock ups, photos and suchlike. The collection came from John Gilbert, the Design Manager at Corgi from 2000 to 2006.
The auction was held on 12th June 2014. Every Lot from the collection was sold with a Certificate of Authenticity detailing the sale date, lot number and catalogue description. The certificates are signed by the Saleroom Manager and John Gilbert. In addition, John Gilbert was present during the auction to answer any questions about the collection.
A gold ingot numbered 94/99 sold for £1,300 and a mint condition Gold Ingot numbered 99/99 sold for a golden £1,800. The other design lots also sold for a fairly hefty price.
John Gilbert is now aware of the huge interest in the 'Golden Opportunity' promotion ingots and of the amount of rumour and speculation that has since followed. He is keen to set the record straight and is in the process of writing an article for the Collectors Club of Great Britain (www.collectors-club-of-great-britain.co.uk). It is likely that his article will be published in the December issue of the Collectors Gazette. I'll keep you posted.
Wow! I have the same :D!! Also with the same box. I bought it back in 1996 during my summer holidays in Luxembourg I guess. UT Models doesn't exist anymore. And with that casing around it, I kindly ask you to put some insurance on that item :-P.
I once bought it for my birthday money for €60,00. Now on Ebay it's being sold for like €195,00 (!!).
On the internet they are also offering a 1/43 scaled Aston Martin DBS from "OHMSS". Sadly, there's no scale 1/18 version yet:
I think I probably paid around £30 for it back around 2001. Unfortunately the little wing mirrors have broken off since.
This iconic model is due to make a return in 2015. The James Bond Aston Martin - 'Goldfinger' 50th Anniversary model is a recreation of Corgi's famous model, first released in October 1965.
Here's the description from Corgi: "In 1965 Corgi won the first Toy of the Year award for the 'Goldfinger' James Bond Aston Martin DB5. Now, in 2015 we present a new release, fully featured DB5 for a new generation of James Bond fans."
Corgi will be releasing 2 versions of the model. The first is Model No.CC04203, presented in its classic silver birch livery. The second is Model No. CC04203G; a limited edition that will be produced in a gold finish. Displayed in a special retro-styled anniversary box featuring artwork from the original 1965 packaging, the new models will come complete with many features such as the ejector seat, retractable machine guns and rotating number plates.
Due for release on 1st January and priced at £19.99.
ANOTHER DB5 for £20.00?!!!!! No way Corgi!!! How about you do something new!!!! [-X
I also saw the 50th Anniversary 2015 too. I couldn't believe they develop in gold colour & original silver colour. My guess it likely to be Scale 1:43 or maybe Scale 1:36 but doesn't say. It said fit the Box but I fine very interesting & I'm going to get one. Also the corgi SPECTRE Aston Martin & other cars featured in the movie will proberly some where end of the year.
You had your chance for the 50th anniversary and you did nothing Corgi so do us all a favour and dont even bother. We've all got numerous versions of the DB5 model that you've been churning out for the last 50 years and are pretty sick of it just being repackaged for every Bond film.
I'm just glad I stocked up in the 90's on the TLD Aston, Little Nellie etc when you didnt treat Bond fans like mug punters to be rinsed time and again. Presume the bloke who sanctioned those wonderful models has long since departed to a company that has some actual ambition.
Nonetheless good luck with another DB5 reissue I'm sure some fools will buy it but you might want to think about something in business called 'brand loyalty' because I was there when SF was released with fistfuls of cash to spend on a lovely collectors 50th box set with a model from every film and all we got was the sodding DB5 again so I kept it all in my pocket as I will be doing again this time round.

That looks like the cheapest piece of tat I've seen in a long time and to my mind the shape of the body shell is all wrong I'll keep my money this time .
I, too, had the 90's vehicles, but I rather foolishly sold them, apart from the Aston Martin's of course.
In fairness mate we did get 007 Legends for the 50th so it wasn't a total washout!
Now missing from the website
Highly unlikely! I have enough DB5 models thank you! Come up with something original Hornby for goodness sake! :-q
I'm with you RogueAgent. They had their chance to get a huge wad of my cash in 2012 and pissed it up the wall. If you're business is struggling how about you come up with something new rather than just changing the year of the anniversary on another DB5 box.
I was exactly the same as you and yet my money stayed in my wallet!
I will be keeping my money.
