Great actor. I'm afraid I've not seen the French Connection (before my time......shameful I know......I must watch it).

    1. Crimson Tide
"Mr Hunter. I've made a decision. I'm Captain of this boat. NOW SHUT THE F#$K UP!"

    2. The Firm
"I used to Caddie for young lawyers off from work on weekdays... and their wives. I'd look at those long tan legs and just knew I had to be a lawyer. The wives had long tan legs, too."

    3. No Way Out (so good here that he actually reprised the role some years later with a twist in "Absolute Power", another one of my favourites).

You HAVE to watch the French Connection, make some time, you won't regret it.

Will Patton deserved a Best Supporting Actor nom for that; a shame he didn't get it.

Mississippi Burning is such a powerful movie that I don't actually enjoy it (if that makes sense), but GH's performance is near perfect: the flirting in the hairdressers, the chemistry with DeFoe, the brutalilty of the barbers chair scene, just wonderful stuff. Powerhouse acting at it's very best

Can't believe not one person has listed French Connection 2

    Prefer it to the original

One of his greatest performances. His 'cold turkey' scene is riveting and harrowing.

French Connection 2 is that rare breed. A sequel as good as the first!
John Frankenheimar delivers a very different style to William Friedkins documentary approach, but its a splendid follow up with a thrilling foot chase finale that puts even Bourne to shame!

That final chase is just so gripping!

Great film that uses the 'stranger in a strange land' theme very well.

The film also makes great use of the Marseille locations.

Scarecrow (Gene's striptease amuses Al Pacino and an audience)
The Conversation (Don't flush the toilet)
No Way Out (Enemies closer to Home)

The last two, both in the Spy mould.
