We seriously need a swear filter. There's a handful of members - and I'm sure you all know who I'm referring to - who have decided that it's perfectly acceptable to swear because they do it all the time in real life. And the arguments over it and using it are putting me off staying around the forums.
Flag some of them if you like, swearing is still against policy.

Well, they don't really swear per se - they self-censor things, but the intended word is obvious.

There should be some way to hide Skyfall spoilers from the home page. Maybe make the threads of the spoilers section invisible on the home page? Or just make sure that no spoilers are included in thread titles.

Normally we don't have spoilers in article titles.
We will need to keep a close eye on members posting spoilers in new thread titles though.

A lot has gone on recently and there's still a lot of things yet posted on the main site that may be of interest. Some may not but here they are anyway:

The official Skyfall soundbites - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1Z9lQOFXs1s

The launch of the Skyfall website.

A press conference transcript. Not sure about this but it's an option.

Thanks again for all the great work. B-)

I have to again mention that I would greatly prefer no swearing; it annoys me every single time - and gives a very juvenile feel to this forum (which I think denigrates it). Also, besides the usual s**t (for example), I do not appreciate using Christ's name as swearing, either. I know people may think they just use it as an expression ... but it jars me and never sounds like a neutral expression to me - it sounds like swearing using a religious name that is important to me personally, so therefore it is always offensive to me. Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth to this particular subject. Thanks for letting me have my say.

And yes, I want to add my thanks, too. There is a lot of effort being made that makes this site so unique and good.

Why do all the newbies think they have to open a new thread every time they post on mi6community?
  • Because that's what they do generally, not all, mind, I guess it's one way of getting your foot in the door and being recognized, sort of fitting in kind of thing etc

I hope the mods can be on the ball because I feel a lot of these should be locked. Thanks for bringing this up @PanchitoPistoles.

Whether you look at the main page as 'Discussions' (all threads together) or 'categories', the thread titles from the section 'Skyfall Spoilers' can be seen on the main page. Is there any way that the thread titles from that section can only be seen when entering the category ? It's going to be very easy to unintentionally spoil yourself by just casually reading the main page.

That struck me as well DC. It's worth feeding it back to base.

Doesn't this all tie in with the forum linking to the 'Categories' view first being the prefered idea? Then allowing us to choice the one we wish to view? Currently the 'Discussions'/all threads view makes the forum appear very cluttered. I hope this can be looked at soon.
  • An idea for 'skyfall' related topics. How about having a sort of thread dedicated to general 'skyfall' stuff. We have got an official photo thread, which has stopped people making a thread for every single photo, so why not have a similar sort of thread for all the skyfall related general topics. It is also good because a lot of questions get asked countless times- so having one big thread that you can flick through will be a lot easier than starting a new thread every time.

    Thoughts?

A good of Q & A thread? That could work.

On another note about Skyfall to anyone in the know, will the film have a 'Production Diaries' series on the main site in the same vein as the ones for Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace?

    That's exactly what I mean- a kind of Q & A thread.

Yeah, I was wondering exactly the same thing, I really enjoyed the QoS One..
I think they most likely will- they've done it on the last 2..

Don't worry, a delete button is also on the list of things we need!

Let's hope Vanilla get their act together soon and release a newly updated version.
  • Sorry if already been mentioned but will there be a "Mark all threads read" button any time?

If you're ever considering doing a redesign of the site, it would be cool to map it out as if it were an MI6 site. The kind of thing where, when people walk by, they think you're actually part of MI6. Keep all the articles the way they are, but format them like briefings.

Get what I'm saying? Some might disagree - I think it would be super cool.

    Obviously, no rush.

Why is the "Skyfall News & Spoilers" section only visible when signed in?

I think we should have spoiler tags, like on the old forum. As the countdown for Skyfall has began, they're getting more and more necessary every day. Is something like that possible?

Is there some way to turn off the save-draft function? Sometimes I go into a thread and start to reply, but think better of it, so I leave. The forum software automatically saves a draft of what I was writing, but I have no intention of posting it, so I have to go in and delete it. It only takes two minutes, so it's not that big a deal, but I just find it annoying.

In the future do you think the opeing page could be of the 'Categories' view, the one found just above 'All Discussions' at the moment? Or at least make that a customisable option for users?
I brought this up from the beginning, so no.. you're not alone with the thought!

I doubly agree. I brought this up before and mentioned it to JamesPage too, but I think Sub-Categories would help organize the topics a little better and allow users to find a topic, rather than start up a new one everytime a thought pops up.

    Example:

    Bond Films
    *Reviews
    *Lists
    *Appreciation Pages
    *Games
    *...and so on

Yes exactly. There are far too many repeat discussions or related threads. 1,400 is not necessarily a good thing. It's hard to sort through so many and find what you may be looking for. I'd rather have fewer, but deeper quality discussions, than countless 3-5 post discussions.

I do wonder how much of this lies with Vanilla's next upgrade and how much is able to be done by those in charge of the forums now?

Since the, very early, days in April-ish we haven't had any updates and I just wonder where we realistically stand with this? As @JBFan626 pointed out, a few of these issues can sometimes be borderline off putting, personally. We know what happened last time everyone cried for an update and then, well, we are where we are now.
