The prospective of having Martin Campbell direct Bond 25 and likely Craig's final Bond film are the following:

    1. Unique directorship: GoldenEye and Casino Royale were very different films and both critically praised by the majority of fans. He does not have tunnel vision when it comes to a creative vision that the entire production team design. Quite honestly, his work in Casino Royale was brilliant and probably aided by the addition of source material in comparison to GoldenEye. Since we are going down an alternate remake of the Blofeld trilogy, there is a treasure-trove of source material to extract gripping moments with which to tie the arc together.

    2. Book-ending Craig's journey: He has the most intimate experience with Craig as Bond because he was his starting director. Mendes was beneficial and serviceable in his expansion of the Bond mythology, but to have true closure of the character, who better than to have his first Bond director at the helm?

I really want this to happen. Maybe nolan could kickoff the new bond actor after bond 25

Oh yes, I definitely agree with all of that, @haserot.

Personally, I really would like to see Peter Lamont returning once more to do the production design. I am not really a fan of Dennis Gassner's works. Too bland, if you ask me.

I agree with the notion that if we do have Nolan at the helm of a Bond, it should be with a preconceived and planned character portrayal of a new actor.

Matthew Vaughn would be good... if he did it like X-Men: First Class and not Kingsman: The Secret Service. No more F-bombs or unnecessarily comical violence.
  • Pretty sure Matthew Vaughn gets hired at EON the day every single other person on the planet capable of directing a film is dead.

After Kingsman's spiteful attitude towards Bond films I say no to Vaughn.

Get Brad Bird to direct, The cast of SPECTRE to return, Michael Giacchino in the composer's chair and you have magic ready to bloom.

If not Mendes, then Martin Campbell or Brad Bird (considering he worked marvels in M:I-GP). Matthew Vaughn lacks class. They might as well get Brett Ratner.

Alright, then. My money is on Brad Bird.

But, somehow, my gut tells me he will never be considered by EON.

Dennis Villeneuve. Not sure it'll happen, though.

@Murdock: No smarter words have ever been spoken. You just summed up my thoughts! We do need a different writer, though - one whose name is NOT John Logan. Maybe they could woo someone like Steven Zaillian.

Drew Pearce for the screenwriter, perhaps?

EON does not hire American directors.

This is an entirely plausible and realistic (French-Canadian) choice, who has stated he'd be interested in Bond, and he brings dramatic credibility to the table.

Considering the score for The Incredibles is the best post-barry James Bond score, I totally agree here.

As I've mentioned before, it's not that EON doesn't hire American directors. It's just never happened. They've considered them. Speilberg, Brett Ratner (ahhh!), Sturart Baird have all been considered at one point or another.

Villeneuve directing Craig, Waltz, Fiennes & co. in a film about Blofeld's escape, revenge on Bond, and Bond's subsequent "slaying of the dragon"? Yes please!

I have not seen Sicario yet, but based on Enemy and Prisoners I really like this director.

Really? It's just a coincidence that after 24 films they've never hired one, yet have gone out of their way to hire obscure semi-washed up Canadians and New Zealanders? I always heard it was their official mandate, from Cubby, claiming that an American couldn't 'get' the Britishness of Bond : "Don't let them screw it up". Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

There would have been nothing wrong with hiring Brett Ratner during the Brosnan era. Would he really have not done "as well" as Spottiswoode, Apted, Tamahori?

If you look at the cast, Mendes or Foster they are Oscar winners or nominated. Tom Hooper British/Australian dual national won an Oscar for directing the Kings Speech also directed The Damned United and Les Miserable.

Or there Paul Greengrass, English. The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), and Oscar nominated for United 93 (2006).

Campbell did a fine job with CR and yes, he does 'get' Bond, but I'm not a great fan of his rather flat direction. Other than the African Rundown sequence I don't think his set-pieces have really had any flair or 'oomph', if you get what I mean...

Having said that I'll take him over a 3rd Mendes film - he's had his chance to shine and I don't think there is any more 'Sam Mendes character-drama' to be squeezed out of this era...

    Martin Campbell: GE 1995 - CR 2006 = 11 years
    Marc Forster: QOS 2008 - Bond 25 = 10 years

I am curious what Dennis Villeneuve will make with Pervis & Wade, Paul Haggis (CR/QOS) and mabey Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband/Prisoners).

    Honestly lets talk scripting first

Honestly I would love Chris Mcquarrie and Drew Pearce

    But

    Who do I suspect

Neal Purvis Robert Wade and Jez Butterworth will be writing and the announcement will be Febuary or March. (my guess)

Directing wise If Craig won't return unless Mendes is directing Fine but I would Hope Craig would be willing to work with other directors.

For Directors my Dream choice honestly is Spielberg, Tony Gilroy, or Luc Besson (taken) but realistically Tom Hoppard will probably be the director if Mendes isn't it. which will be announced Julyish
Of Course I want the film to come out November 2017 but I would be ok with either November 2018 or maybe we finally get out of November period and maybe February 2018? the release date will be announced with the director in July.

My guess also would be a screenplay by Purvis, Wade and Butterworth.

You know if it is not Mendes I could see Craig convince Speilberg.

    From Sir Roger Moore's autiobiography

In the early ’70s, Moore bumped into a young Steven Spielberg at the Plaza Anténé In Paris.

“We sat, and we talked. He said he would love to direct a Bond,” Moore said. “At this time, all I knew about him was that I had seen ’Duel,’ which I thought was a superb bit of moviemaking, and he wasn’t that known at that time.”

Moore passed along the note to producer Cubby Broccoli, who in turn shot Spielberg down.

“Spielberg wanted a piece, and Cubby didn’t want to give anything away,” Moore said. “He didn’t want to give any more points of Bond away to directors coming in.”

Spielberg has opened up about his attempts to direct a Bond movie on a couple of occasions, but Moore figures that the work he did instead of 007 pushed the spy series to new height.

“Spielberg made ’Indiana Jones,’ which really is one step beyond Bond,” Moore said. “That made Bond step up.”
