Edited an existing thread that died after one post:)
I got the idea to this thread after watching Creature From The Black Lagoon and its sequel Revenge Of The Creature yesterday.
The film industry discovered the "need" for sequels early on. Today we don't even talk of sequels but franchises, in fact the cinema has transformed into a landscape of movie-series.
There have been a lot of sequels. Some well known, some considered better than the first movie, some highly successful, more successful than its predecessor even.
But a lot of them are just not good enough, and some are downright bad, unnecessary and maybe even (thankfully) forgotten today.
So which sequels have gone down in history as truly being bad. And do you agree? Is there a "bad" sequel that you actually like? Is there a sequel that you hate with everything that you are?
Which sequels are odious crimes?
Let me start with those and see what yours are:
Basic Instinct 2 (2006)
When I saw this I couldn't believe my eyes. It is so atrociously bad that it hurts. And quite frankly after seeing it I never even went back to the original Basic Instinct even though back in 1992 I found it to be tremedously exciting. Why on earth did they make it?
Revenge Of The Creature (1955)
Obviously the sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon doesn't get much love. Something I can only understand to a certain degree. I enjoy it quite a bit and I would rank it only slightly lower than the original. As for the third movie in the series...ouch...

Whenever I think of time capsules relating to Bond, though, I think of the 1977 Lotus Esprit S1, since it just looks so... 70's-like. I actually like the shovel-shaped front though, despite being born well after the end of the 70's.

I'm sure more will come to mind, but the Schumacher Batman movies stand as examples of what not to do when taking over a franchise.
The Matrix 2 still sort of made sense, 3 just makes no sense at all. Saw an episode of 'The Big Bang Theory' in which Sheldon loses his mind trying to solve a problem. It is said the last time that happened was when he saw Matrix 3. I felt exactly like that. So it certainly counts!
D&D to was indeed terrible. And later films in the American Pie series were too. Just there to show tits. I don't need a film for that, there's the internet!
Then there's the third 'Pirates oC' film. which was pretty bad imo.
I think I actually prefer it to the first....
Matrix 3 didn't really have a point. Especially after the events of the 2nd, it all felt like a giant letdown once Neo was rescued from limbo.
I actually really liked American Reunion and I do prefer POTC 2 and 3 to the first one.
I haven't seen Scorpion King 3 & 4 and Death Race 3. Also i am not sjure or i have intrest in Death Race 4.
No no, it's bad. They're both bad, and I haven't even watched the third; if it's the same director, then it's equally garbage. The consistently awful reviews from both critics and fans alike pretty much accept them as being bad, so they're definitely fitting for sequels you love/hate that are awful. What a complete nosedive in every sense of the word from the first one.
I got the original Superman movie on Blu-ray and it's a true classic and belongs to the very best superhero movies ever.
Superman II while not as good still is a classic imo.
And you are right, Part III is what I consider a bad sequel, still watchable though.
Superman IV on the other hand is neither watchable nor in any way good. I rather watch a whole season of Lois & Clark than Part IV again :))
And that's probably a good thing lol. Looked cheaper than III.
I liked it at the cinema, my excuse, I was young :))
Seriously, Cruise Control is a better name for a porn movie, IF it starred Sandra Bullock :))
Don't even remember that one.
You are lucky! :))
I only remember Willem Dafoe putting leaches on himself and the young deaf girl.
Well that sucks.
=))
Hehe :P ...
That's priceless as well :))
At least Speed 2 now is worth a laugh.
